Shannan's Irish Pub was a strange place to see while on vacation in Puerto Rico. What's an Irish Pub doing in PR?! They had the same funny signs as the pubs in Los Angeles, but played live Puerto Rican music. This place is famous for making good long islands and the drinks are super cheap. It gets sweatingly crowded in here even though the two story pub fits a couple billiard tables, several bars, a live band on stage, a huge dance floor, and another room for more tables. This place is not a tourist spot. If you don't look like a native Puerto Rican, expect to get mean stares from the local gals as I and my group of girlfriends did. Although we minded our own business, my girlfriends experienced some harsh we-don't-want -your-kind-here stares along with lots of not-so-accidental pushes and shoves on the dance floor. I have been going here at least once a year since 2005, during my yearly visits to Guaynabo. Guaynabo City is the best area in Puerto Rico. They know they are the best b/c they even use the word "city", in English, in their name. This place is great for checking out hotties. Puerto Rican women are beautiful and perfect in every way. I can't say enough good things about them. I even married one. They also have dominos and the barstaff understands English. There are pool tables upstairs, a bunch of tvs and a projector. The usual bar thing. They have really small and dirty bathrooms, but I dont go here to go to the bathroom, I go to drink with my friends and play dominos. I usually tip the bartender in the baseball cap extra and he makes the long islands a little dirtier. Drinks are normal like any other bar. You don't have to wait long to get drinks so that is a plus. Sometimes there is a cover and that sucks. The live music is hilarious when they sing songs in English b/c of the accent. They play a lot of Latino music, which is good to dance and chill to. Worth a visit, so go there NOW. read more

Good spot to watch football games. Food is moderately good. They are a bar so that is not their strong side. Other than watching football, basketball or baseball the place is not a local hangout spot. read more

This is my token "American bar" in Puerto Rico. It's tucked away from any other mainstream nightlife in Puerto Rico. It serves lunch and dinner during the off hours and then it turns into a bar/club-like atmosphere in the late hours. I go here occasionally for lunch and happy hours. I'm not really fond of the food here, but it isn't awful. They serve your typical greasy bar foods, which is very hard to mess up. I came here for dinner last year to watch the Saints vs. Cowboys game (one of the few bars that have dish network). As it got closer to midnight, the scene changed from a sports bar to more like a club. read more

Sadly, Shannan's is only a shadow of what it once was. Once they moved it out of the Condado area back in the early 90's it became Irish in name only, playing reggaton an Latin pop, hardly what you would expect from a place that used to cater to classic rock music fans. I still gave it 2 stars because some of the old bartenders are still around, making the best long islands in PR. Food is still pretty good too. read more

This place has changed locations twice in the last 15 yrs. Honestly the location in Loiza street was the best just because it was the original and I was 16 when I sneaked in which made it cool. The current location is definitely bigger but still gets crowded. The food is your typical bar fare (burgers,wings,fries etc). Drinks are strong but whoever says this place serves the best long island ice teas in PR has never tasted a proper long island ice tea and probably just likes to get a lot of alcohol for as few bucks as possible. This place caters to essentially everybody from 18 all the way to mid 40s. It is a rite of passage for most high schoolers and young college kids so Fridays gets fairly busy. However, due to the fact that they are catering to a younger crowd, the classic Stones,Led Zep and Clapton tunes usually in heavy rotation as well as the live bands playing belting out classic rock have given way to crappy music. I am Irishman that took time out today to visit this establishment and I will not be returning back. Firstly, this place does not resemble anything like an Irish bar except for the name. I went in and was greeted by a nice chap and I told him I wanted to sit at the bar, have some food and a couple of beers. He told me I could order food at the bar but they don't serve drink at the bar!! I would have to go outside for that!! I asked for a menu and it consisted of 5-6 items including a burger, chicken wings, chicken sandwich, fried shrimp and one or two other items. I ordered a burger and proceeded outside to get my drink. Drinks were being served in a gazebo type arrangement and there was a queue for drinks. There were two guys serving drinks who hadn't a clue how to operate a bar. They were slow, could never find what they were looking for and had no problem serving what appeared to be acquaintances of theirs who would just jump the queue and order drinks. They were disinterested and basically just useless. The drinks consisted of bottles and cans of beer and some spirits. No beer on draft!! And they have the cheek to call themselves an Irish bar. Anyway, I was waiting in the queue so long for a drink that by burger arrived out to me long before I even got near the top of the queue to get a drink. So now I am still standing in a line with a paper plate with a burger and fries on it and the two yokes behind the bar are still falling over themselves and going at a snails pace. I eventually got to the top of the line and had to settle for a can of Medalla as they had run out of Heineken. Needless to say I won't be returning and if you are looking for a true Irish bar experience, good food, a wide selection of drinks and good service then I would advise you stay clear also. read more
