I've been with this practice for over 3 yrs. Lauren Mathias PA as my Dr. Lately not sure what has…read morehappened with this practice (I've seen other PA's there) but they do absolutely nothing but refer you somewhere else or test this or that, or call you hit the panic button and send you to ER for nothing!!! My last visit yesterday (I'm switching Dr's, going out of upmc system. Taking my family with me) I pinched a nerve in my ribs doing some winterizing around the house. After 2 days the pain was so bad I could hardly breathe or move. I already had an appointment for a checkup. I told her what I did & how I did it. I asked for a muscle relaxant, pain pill or something that would take the pain away and relax it until it unpinched or healed. Plus something for the awful cough I've had lingering since I had a 48hr bug a few weeks ago. She hit her panic (or more money for upmc button) sent me for bloodwork to see if I had a blood clot in my lung. HIGHLY UNLIKELY, HER WORDS. She also tried to get me to do a CT & EKG, I declined those, I just had both less than 2 weeks ago! 4:40pm, I got a call, that something was elevated showing could possibly be a clot. Suggested I go to ER. I declined, then Dr got on the phone & they put fear into you. So, I go to ER. Got CT & EKG. 5 hours later(a very fast visit for their ER. Absolutely nothing wrong. This is the 3rd time she has sent me to ER and I have to pay $3000-4000, my insurance won't cover due to not admitted. Dr in ER, gave me an iv of saline, a pain pill & steroids, sent me home. Told me to contact my PCP to get a prescription for both. I called in the morning left a message. Nurse called at 4:30pm and told me that office policy is they DO NOT prescribe pain pills. WHO HAS EVER HEARD OF A DRS OFFICE NOT PRESCRIBING A PAIN PILL. I asked if there was anything she could give me for the pain. I didn't care if it was a narcotic or not. Tylenol does not touch this pain. She then advised me again about office policy. And said they would refer me to the pain clinic. What good it that with a week or longer wait for an appointment? I'm not a drug addiction, I've NEVER had narcotic pain pills before. They know this! She just kept pushing the referral. After her hitting the panic/more money button 3 times this year. Then it being what I told her to begin with. Nothing that needed an ER visit or a referral somewhere else. I'm done! I told the nurse I would be changing Dr's, to someone out of the UPMC system. They are literally the bottom of the barrel and I think they want to make you worse or kill you, not sure which. I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS OFFICE or UPMC. Not only this hospital. I ended up with sepsis 3 times this year from Mercy in Pittsburg after being referred there. I still can't believe a Dr's office will not prescribe a pain pill after you've had the ER visit and all the tests they pressured you into getting. In my mind, this is just a referral office, not a Dr's office to help their patients. Luckily I live in a town that has another medical system that I'm already affiliated with their hospital due to cancer complications. Now I will have a PCP with them.
