There are lots of restaurants in Guildford, and our experiences have always ranged from good to fabulous. Until now.
We picked up their Set Menu B this evening (Sunday). They explained they didn't have any seaweed and offered Crispy Won Ton instead. We were slightly surprised when they charged more but let it pass. Then they said the food would only be 5 minutes, which worried us a little.
The appetisers were overcooked and dry. The Won Ton (described on the menu as Shrimp wrapped in Filo Pastry) were a single tiny shrimp (about 1cm long) in a huge piece of dry crisp something.
The crispy duck was crisped to the point where half of it was totally inedible, and the rest required lots of water to help swallow it.
Oh well, on to the mains. Beef with Ginger and Spring Onions was about half onion (ordinary, not spring), and beef was dry and chewy. Chicken with Cashew Nuts was a strange consistency and tasteless. Even the rice was dry. We struggled through about a third of the food, and the rest went in the bin.
Our impression was that the food had been microwaved beyond death, and a lot of it was padded with large amounts of onion. Definitely the worst Chinese meal either of us has ever experienced. read more
