Some years ago it was ranked as the best Chinese restaurant in Tampere. I wouldn't give that award anymore if they don't put more effort in quality and taste. Food: Most of the time food is average and sometimes it's really good and sometimes it's just plain. We have been going here for a couple of years and ate the whole list and nowadays ordering the same portions from time to time and I can say that the quality of the food varies a lot. Chili chicken is sometimes spicy and really good but most of the times it's just chicken in soy sauce with vegetables. So if you want it spicy I would ask for it separately but beware sometimes when I've done it has really been spicy and I do like it but there's a fine line. Environment: The place is really really really small. Probably around 10-15 customer seating. Decorations are your generic chinese restaurant things but still you get a cozy feeling of the family who runs the place. Service: Service has always been pretty fast. Around 10-15min when ordering take out. People are happy and speak some Finnish but you get the job done. Price: Possibly the cheapest chinese restaurant in Tampere. Maybe due to use of the famous chef - Some food not quite the general standards (ribs were very chewy for example, wasabi was very mild...) Like my companion said afterwards: she prefers Maruseki over this at any day, which is one of the few compatible restaurants to Masu in Tampere. ps. First you choose your base ingredient for example rice or noodles then you choose the fillings let's say chicken, shrimp and mushrooms and after that you choose the sauce let's go with tikka masala. Yey youre all finished and ready to wait :) Food: I've eaten here a couple of times and also had take out. Portions are rather large and you have to be really hungry or fit freak to eat it all at once. Have to say that the dishes are really tasty and they are not sunken in to grease and the sauce is there just for the taste. So if you want healthy food custom made this is the place. Environment: Place is kinda small. There might be around 15 seats. A lot of people order by phone and take out. Interiors are nice and inviting. Service: Downside here is that they have a really small kitchen in the back and normally there is only one guy working and sometimes two so getting the food can be a bit of a wait. Last time I called ahead and they said that it will be ready after 15mins and when I got there 15mins later they hadn't even started my order. So I ended up waiting for 30mins in total. So call ahead if you are in a hurry and you have to understand that the dishes are really custom made for your order. Price: Not the cheapest place around Tampere especially if you compare to some chinese restaurants but still the concept is unique so you really can't compare. The dishes run around 10€ and up. The buffet features sushi, and that's all I ate this visit. I'm not a sushi snob -- all I know about sushi is that it's delicious. The Bai Wei sushi was solid and I definitely left satisfied. The place fills up pretty quickly at lunch -- with a university and various business parks in the immediate area, I reckon folks see more value here than onsite dining options. At 8.50 EUR for the Bai Wei buffet, that's certainly how I feel. Good food, really reasonable pricing, and a wide selection -- I'll be back to Bai Wei again!
