2mm thick Chicken Snitzel Parmigiana.

Staff were pleasant, and the free ice water with lemon was nice, but I don't recommend their 2mm thick Chicken Snitzel Parmigiana. The meals were cheap, but unfortunately so was the clientele - the people we were seated next to were a little noisy and unfiltered / inconsiderate in their conversation.

Great food with reasonable price! The rump is so so so big for a couple and the onion ring taste so so so delicious!

Signature 550g Rump Steak with my buddy's T-bone in the background. The verdict: choose the Rump!

Can't even cook a steak. 350g sirloin. 70g of gristle. Asked for medium rare. Got blue. Sigh

The Hope and Anchor bills itself as the oldest licensed pub in Australia. It was located just…read morearound the corner from our Downtown Hobart Hotel, and was our first meal after landing in Australia (19 hour time difference). Fish and Chips and a local beer were on tap for our meal, and it was all very good. We ordered and paid for our meal at the bar, and enjoyed our time at a high table by the window. We were here early afternoon, so things were relatively quiet, vs. an more boisterous and crowded evening pub atmosphere. There's 3 rooms (including the one with the bar) downstairs and an upstairs, with the local Hobart Brewing Company running this historical establishment. It looks like they have some work ahead of them in terms of upkeep of this elderly building, but the food, clientele, and atmosphere all fit together well.

Here's what we noticed: - It was a Monday night and we came in around 6:30 PM, and the place was already packed. We didn't have a reservation and the wait was going to be about 45 minutes or more, so luckily we were able to find a couple of open spots at a table in the bar area, where you order at the bar and the food is delivered to your table. It worked great! - There are a lot of great beers on tap, including several from Hobart Brewing Company. - Based on prior reviews, my wife and I ordered the Fish and Chips and the Seafood Chowder to split both dishes between us. The Fish and Chips were excellent, not overly breaded and the fish was perfectly cooked, very juicy. And, it came with a little salad. The Seafood Chowder was really good, including the bread that came with it. - The vibe inside is really fun, just a bit loud as you would expect a pub to be. Bottom line: We're glad we spent our first night at the Hope and Anchor Tavern.

Our server, a most pleasant young woman, knew her fare well We tried the Sunday Roast Special (Roast Pork and Yorkshire Pudding), which was beautifully done with crisp circle. This is my spot!…read more A friend and I had just started our year of traveling through Australia, and chose Tassie as our first destination. We were house sitting in Kingston for 2 weeks, so we'd pop into Hobart a few nights a week for some fun. We bar hopped all over the city, but the Telegraph stayed our consistent favorite. Almost every time we paid it a visit, we were in for a wild night. The pub itself it's a moderately large lay out equipped with full bar, kitchen, pool room, and a lengthy outdoor smoking patio with tables. The bartenders were all very friendly and almost instantly took us in as their own. Since we were fresh off the boat from the states, everyone fell in love with our naivety towards all things Aussie not to mention Tassie. We were given a full crash course on proper Aussie drinking. And not only that, all of our travel suggestions wound up coming from the bartenders and local clientele as well! After finishing up our stint in Kingston, we decided to put a little more time in with Hobart and it's surrounding areas. If it weren't for our friends at the Telegraph, we probably would've moved on much sooner. We truly did see the area on a local level, which is the best experience to hope for when traveling. P.S. If a bartender named "Taz" is still working there, you should get to know that man! He's a legend!
