I know that…read moreLIttle India is a bit of a chain, we've been to the one in Hamilton and enjoyed it very much. It was perhaps because of this that I found the experience of this one to be so blah. They had a limited menu for lunch, a few curries and biriyanis to choose from. They were all served with either rice or naan or papardums. I had the chicken biriyani because I can actually get both my kids to eat chicken and rice. However, it just left me disappointed; not really bad but nothing to write home about. My son refused to eat the rice (he wanted white rice, not actual tasty flavored rice, note to self for next time). Anyhow, there are plenty of businesses along the Strand and I'm sure you could find one better than here, unless you are really seeking out mediocre Indian food and service that was also a bit sub-standard (i.e. slow).

I've said to myself, in the past, if for no other reason, the trip from Denver (actually, I may…read morehave been living in New York City at that time...), to this Little India location, in Tauranga, might almost be worth the long trek. Thankfully there are several other reason as to why I visit Tauranga frequently. But, I feel like this restaurant is the best Indian food I have ever had. Seasoning is amazing and spot on. In comparison to the other locations I have had the pleasure of dining at (Christchurch and Hamilton) and, while good, they just don't seem to be up to the same standard that this location is. They brew their Marsala/Chai tea to order. Something I've not seen very often, and not at the other locations (or rather, never recognized in the other locations). Even their Naan seems to be, both lighter and more fluffy. Though they're shooting for a modern Indian kind of ambience, I'm pretty indifferent about the decor. It's bright (orange) and open. I've always had decent service here, though, on my most recent experience, service was not up to the standards I've come to expect. Regardless, I enjoy chef's hand in spices and use of the recipes that this chain uses so much, that I can ignore mediocre service in that instance.

A New Zealand fiend of mine actually recommended this place to me. Since arriving in Tauranga from…read moreAuckland via Inter-City bus, it was nice to sit down here and have Indian cuisine before a 21.1 km foot race the next morning. I arrived here on foot after walking from my hotel on a brisk Friday evening in mid September 2018. It was nice to come a bit early, since the restaurant was not busy - as there was only a couple of tables occupied at the time of my arrival. I was quickly seated and I felt the ambiance rushed towards me. The simple elegance and red casual atmosphere was very inviting. It kind of felt like being in India a little bit, but without the crowded streets and crazy urban congestion. The restaurant itself was cozy and comfortable, while being simple in decor and very much clean and immaculate. I spent about an hour or so here for dinner before heading back to the hotel to get ready for 21.1 km the next morning. Having Indian curry for race morning fuel was actually pretty neat, as it was my first time doing so and the results were good. The service here was good and friendly. They had my order out and presented at the table within 20 minutes of ordering. It was definitely made to order, which is usually awesome and spicy. Spicy is the essence of life, as they say. The overall experience here at Talk of India Indian restaurant here in Tauranga, New Zealand was quite good and definitely one to visit, if you are in the area and love Indian cuisine. Indian cuisine is one of my top favorite cuisines to have, so it's no secret that I was here. Only problem is that Indian cuisine - in general - can be cost prohibited, so I try to have it once in a while - just not all the time. With that said, I was on holiday, so I decided to splurge here at Talk of India. It was money well spent! Talk of India Indian cuisine restaurant is located at 356 Cameron Road in the heart of downtown Tauranga New Zealand. They accept major credit cards, which is always a good thing, including international cards too. As well as cash. Not sure about parking options and public transportation routes, but check google and you should be okay. I simply just walked to and from my hotel - which seemed to be like 1.5 km away one way and didn't want to do an Uber. Oh, uber works well too, if you want to get here to Talk or India that way. Probably the best way to do it. I definitely enjoyed my time here at Talk of India Indian cuisine and hope to be back in the area soon, well sooner the better. During this experience here at talk of India Indian cuisine, I ordered the beef madras, which was a spicy beef curry. The portion size was decent enough to warrant two regular size bowl of rice go with the meal. I also ordered a order of garlic naan bread to complement the meal and had water to drink. It was nice to have a whole bottle of water to myself instead of having to wait for the waitstaff to refill the water every single time. It was brilliant. The overall price was around NZ $25, which wasn't bad seeing how fresh and how nice this place is usually. For the most part though, I really enjoyed this place. Even though the service here seems to be usually average, I will take that anytime of the week. I found myself full from a meal and from the experience of having authentic Indian cuisine in the heart of Taranga, before the Tauranga international half marathon. I would definitely like to recommend checking out this place, if you are in the area I love Indian food as much as I do. You'll be easily surprised. Try the beef vindaloo while you are there too. The naan breads are awesome and delicious! 4.5 stars for the ambiance and service. 4.0 stars for the overall experience. 3.5 stars for the prices. 4.5 stars for the delicious food. Support local! B+
