If you get hurt in Jefferson or Berkeley County, do yourself a favor and drive the few extra miles to Winchester or Martinsburg. It may well save your life. My partner's mom has COPD, one lung, no voice, had brain surgery for cancer, has ataxia, cannot walk on her own, cannot feed herself, and cannot use the bathroom or bathe unassisted. We admitted her recently due to pneumonia. They wanted to discharge her before she was ready. My partner finally got her mom's primary physician to order Jefferson Memorial to transfer her to Winchester Medical Center in VA. As of the time I'm writing this review, we are waiting for a bed to open up in Winchester, otherwise it would have happened two days ago. Today, Jefferson wanted to discharge the patient, who according to the doctor at Jefferson, is eating 30% of her food and is not currently aspirating. The patient is so thin, the shape of her pacemaker is visible through her skin. This woman will die if she is not treated properly and quickly, and it will be entirely the fault of Jefferson Memorial. This hospital does what is convenient for them, with no regard to actual patient condition, much less the Hippocratic Oath. Avoid them at all costs under all circumstances.

She would not accept my passport because it would not fit in their scanner. Explained all the other Drs. make a photocopy and scan the copy. She said it had to be my drivers license. I declined as my id was compromised in 1994 from someone who worked at a Drs. Office. For 30 years I always provide my passport with no issues. I provided other ID to proof who I was and they refused to see me because I would not let them scan my driver's license. I called the Medical Board of West Virginia and they indicated that a passport IS AN ACCEPTABLE FORM OF ID!!!! She asked if I wanted to reschedule and I asked if I needed to bring my driver's license and she said yes. DID NOT RESCHEDULE!!!! It was VERY OBVIOUS who I was and a PASSPORT IS A GOVERNMENT ISSUED ID. JUST BECAUSE IT WOULD NOT FIT YOUR SCANNER IS NOT REASON TO DISCRIMINATE AND REFUSE TO SEE A PATIENT.

From the therapy department, nursing staff, activities staff..all were wonderful! We had to make the hard decision to transition her to skilled nursing care there and not bring her back home. As hard as this time with the quarantine has been, I'm so thankful she's been at Shenandoah. The administration and all the staff have been wonderful to go out of their way to keep the residents engaged and the families informed. My mother has dementia, so it's not easy for them, but they have been so loving and understanding with mother. I've had peace of mind knowing she's loved and well cared for there.
