We arrived without a reservation and the owner was very helpful. Our room was nice and very quiet.

Wish I could do a 2.5. Rooms seem to have been updated with new floors and wall hangings. Room was a good size - 303. Furniture was not comfortable. Two pancake pillows - used my coat to make mine work - should have just gone with the coat. Front office staff were very nice. read more

Not a great experience for me staying in this motel. The good: It was clean, pretty new, good size room, convenient driving up and down route 93. The bad: No sound proofing. You can hear everything in the rooms around you, the conversations, the water being turned on, the fans, any little move they make. It's right by the road, so you can hear the traffic. The train runs right by it and that night it went by 3 times blowing its whistle. Woke me up every time. Morning "amenities": Coffee you barely know it's coffee, it's so week. Activa yogurt (yek), with a sign that says only one per person. And water for sale for $1.00 That's it. Nothing else for breakfast. I didn't find the check-in people friendly or had any sense of being welcomed. Not staying there, again. read more

Nice clean rooms in this motel. Very convenient location to state parks in the area. We were stuck in town an extra night due to a double blow out. No tires available for 50 miles. The gentleman told me he'd hold our room however long we needed and brought us more towels etc. Very friendly. Will definitely stay here again if in the area. read more

I didn't actually get to stay here, although I would have liked to. My party and I had reservations, were heading in the right direction, making good time, until... we didn't make it. There was traffic, more than a few of the back roads that we were taking had construction delays, slower speed limits---until, around mid afternoon, it became apparentl that my 88-year-old mother, along with her cat, my granddaughter and I were not going to get there until 8:00 pm, at the earliest. Then, we had to get up on the morning and do it again! So we found accomodations closer to where we were, and I called the person at the front desk, Emma, who patiently and graciously listened to our story, and explained that since I had booked through an app, we would have to cancel through that same app.I did so, and learned that the cancellation fee might be as high as the entire cost of the three rooms, same as if we had actually stayed! It was left to the discretion of the management, as outlined in the fine print on the app's disclaimer. I then called Emma again, and she offered to appeal to the owner on our behalf. Long story short (if it's not already too late for that), is I got an email a few hours later that said NO CHARGE! This is the kind of business you want to deal with, and Emma and the management at the Shady Motel have my heartfelt gratitude and future business. I will go out of my way to recommend this place to anyone who is looking for a place to stay along Nevada Route 95. read more

It cost about $100 for the night and it definitely has no frills. Even though we had a room for 2 people you have to ask for extra amenities because they only give you enough for 1 person. The breakfast snacks in the morning in the lobby was a nice touch. read more

Was going to a bike race and didn't feel like driving back to Vegas so we booked a room for two nights. Room was typical motel room. Bathroom was clean. The owner was nice as can be. All in all a pleasant experience and I'd stay again. read more

Not the best...and not the worst I've stayed in. Rooms are a bit run down with creaky floors by the sinks. But, the foamy mattress was actually a surprise to give me a good nights sleep. Cheap, good accommodations and the friendliness of truly wonderful owners. Our keys were taped to the office door to make for a very late arrival, and we slept and settled our bill the following day with no trouble. The name scared me; is it nefarious or are there trees? Price was good and the reviews were good so I booked it for a night for myself and my husband for a night on a little weekend trip. Surprise! It wasn't the four seasons but the room was clean, the beds were fine and the water was hot Jb the shower. I would stay there again if I was in the area! First, let's go with the obvious. Why would you name an almost creepy hotel in a tiny town the "Shady Motel"? There didn't end up being anything too shady, but it's hard to ignore. You're not going to get any of the amenities or the conveniences that you're used to at a chain hotel in a larger city, but given the options in many miles in any direction, the Shady Motel isn't a bad choice. The price was a bit high for what it was and where it was located, but it was fine. I wouldn't necessarily try to plan to be in Caliente to spend the night again, but I'd probably stay here if I was. read more

Your choices for lodging are pretty limited in Caliente. The Shady Motel says it's been family owned since 1963. The room we stayed looked like it had been remodeled with fresh paint, bathroom fixtures and a flat screen TV. That said, there was an odd smell in the room. While there is a microwave and small refrigerator in the room, there are no cups to microwave water. There's also no shampoo provided, but soap is. The bed was one of the worst I've ever slept in! It was so soft that I was halfway tempted to sleep on the floor. My back ached upon waking up. So why three stars and not two? I'd give the Shady Motel 2.5 stars, but will give them the benefit of the doubt and go for three instead of two. read more

Clean rooms comfortable beds new furniture and hot coffee in the office by 6am. Had a great stay here in May of 2015. 65 bucks plus tax is the rate. You'll hear the train outside but there is no avoiding it anywhere in this town. It's part of the charm of history here. The manager is down home friendly. Shady motel lives up to its name- it is truly shady in the sketchy sense. We stayed here for a night on our road trip towards TN. Something happened so we called saying we would have to check in very late. The manager/supervisor wouldn't be around at that time so he decided to leave our keys in an envelope with our name taped to the office door. OMG, anyone could have taken it I guess. They also messed up the reservation so we got one smoking and nonsmoking room (wanted both the latter). The guys stayed in the smoking room and it was horrible! There was so much stale smoke you could hardly breathe. Why did the motel people not air these rooms out in between checkout and checkin. The room I stayed in didn't have a stench. The shower drain easily backs up so you'll be standing in dirty water for most of your shower. The beds were not comfortable at all. There was no support and it felt like I was sleeping on springs. The only redeeming factor is free Wi-fi. (thus 2 stars) There are only a couple motels in this little sleepy town of Caliente so really, there isn't much of a choice where to stay. Disclaimer: The Shady Motel has absolutely no shade on it's entire property. Stayed here for one night couple of weeks ago while on a road trip in Eastern Nevada. The Shady has about 50 rooms on two levels and looks freshly renovated. Our room was clean and comfortable and very utilitarian. They had no shampoo, hair dryer or bathmat, but did have a microwave and fridge that we used. The place has a "patio" out back which consists of a couple of plastic chairs, a coffee can for cigarette butts and a table made out of a cable stool. Given that Caliente doesn't have much to do, might be helpful for the Shady to spruce up their expansive sitting area a bit and add a BBQ and table/umbrella for their guests. Just a suggestion. $53.80 for the night. Oh - if train noise bothers you, then do not stay at the Shady, which faces the train tracks. The Union Pacific runs about 15-18 trains thru Caliente every day and those BASTARDS LEAN ON THEIR GODDAMN HORN THE WHOLE WAY THRU TOWN. read more

My family made a last minute trip to Caliente to do some exploring of the Caliente-Pioche area and enjoy the labor day festivities in Pioche (worth checking out). There are not many choices for lodging in this part of Nevada and my wife is a bit of a motel snob. She was concerned about how clean and maintained a small hotel in Caliente NV would be. Fortunately, we were pleasantly surprised by the Shady Motel. The rooms are very basic but comfortable and clean. The rate was around $65 per night, which seemed reasonable to us. Caliente is a really quaint and interesting town and the surrounding area is beautiful. We will back to do some more sight seeing and will almost certainly stay at the Shady Motel. FYI, my wife asked the owner about the name. It seems that decades ago - back in the 1960's - his Grandfather built the motel in a grove of large cottonwood trees. Some of the original building is still standing near the office, but I'm not sure the rooms are still in use. The cottonwood trees, over time, tore up pavement and concrete and were removed but the name is a family legacy and stuck. read more

Without a doubt, Shady is the cleanest motel my wife and have ever stayed at in the US! It rivals the better hotels in which we stayed in England and northern Italy. The beds are plush and supportive. Friendly simplicity in peaceful surroundings. read more

There are few motel options in this town but this one is most likely the best. Ample parking, clean rooms and hot coffee. I'm leary of motels in general and the name didn't help, but this place is not shady in a sketchy sense nor shady from trees since there aren't any LOL. It felt very safe. Nice place, I would definately stay here again. The rooms are large with a flat screen tv, microwave and mini fridge. Decent pillows (they were incredibly hard and uncomfortable) and coffee creamer would have given this place 5 stars. There is plenty of parking and the lot is spacious compared to the other motels in town. Coffee, tea and instant cereals were available in the office and free WiFi which was a nice bonus. read more

We were passing through. Got into town at 8:05 p.m. on a Thursday night. They held our reservation. The place was full. It was clean and comfortable. Just the basics. No amenities to speak of except the frig and microwave. The bathroom was very clean. However, the entire town closes at 8:00 p.m. So, dinner was a couple of sandwiches from the gas station store which only stays open until 10:00 p.m. People started leaving at 3:30 a.m. So we suffered through slamming doors and water running. The train also passes in front of the hotel about every hour after 4:30 a.m. It was very annoying. Avoid Caliente if you can. read more

This hotel was a pleasant surprise!!! No it is not a 5 star hotel in the normal sense but for a small town hotel and I have stayed in many it is 5 stars to me. There is a sign when you enter town that says it's the FINEST motel in town......It was !...the room was very clean, service was great and the only complaint was the noisy trains while trying to sleep ( not the motels fault...) After driving 21 hours, the Shady Motel looks live heaven. The gentleman at the desk was there at midnight. He was helpful and friendly. Room is clean and at least the decor make me chuckle coming in and the beds are soft. Also the ac works. So 4 stars. read more
