The best spray tan in SF--consistently perfect results. I've been coming to Shade for about two and a half years, and they have been my absolute savior since moving to San Francisco from New York. I had a spot in NY that I went to for years and never thought I'd find a replacement I loved just as much--until I found Shade. I'm quite fair, and the team here is incredible at customizing the depth of the tan to fit the "vibe" of whatever I have coming up. Whether it's a work trip or a deeper bronze for a beach vacation, it always looks natural and never orange. The salon is adorable, welcoming, and very convenient. I've seen Navi, Lauren, and the owner, Breanne--you truly cannot go wrong with anyone there. Navi, in particular, is an expert at application and makes you feel completely comfortable throughout the process. My tans consistently last a week or more. If you're looking for a solid, high-quality tan that makes you feel your best, this is the place. 5/5 stars! read more

I had really high hopes for Shade after seeing so many positive reviews. I've only self-tanned and was really excited to try a real tanning salon. Although the experience was quick and efficient, I can definitely say it was a complete waste of $75. The tan looked pretty good once done and I made sure to follow all aftercare instructions properly. Unfortunately it faded so fast and looked like I never even got a tan done. I went to the beach 2 days later, and my friend who had self-tan was way more tanned/bronzed than I was! We were shocked. I reached out to them expressing my unhappiness and guess what... no reply! Never got a response from them. Not a happy customer, especially when I can do the same at home for a fraction of the cost for better results that actually last longer. read more

I love Shade. I've been coming here since they opened. Navi, Lauren and Breanna have all been fantastic. Parking is fairly easy, even on Fillmore near Union . I never felt rushed. The technicians were super friendly, kind and helpful. I felt so pretty afterwards. Spray tans avoid skin cancer, and Make one looks thinner! And healthy! I go about once every 3-4 months, but I want to go more often. Thank you so much, staff, a peculiar shout out to Lauren, Brianne and Navi! Warmly, Patti read more

Shade is the best! I've gone multiple times now, most recently for my wedding. I got married down in LA but I wanted to do my tan here because I wanted Breanne to do my tan for my big day. I wanted a very subtle tan-I'm pretty pale and I just didn't want to look washed out. Breanne listened and gave me thorough and clear instructions for aftercare. The tan was perfect! I've also gotten tans with Navi, Lauren, Kristen, and Leila and they've all been excellent! read more

Very friendly service. Tans are long lasting and not orange like many places - will go back

I love this place! I've had spray tans where I walked out feeling sticky but I didn't get that here. I was able to develop my tan without any problems comfortably. I was nervous I couldn't get as dark as I wanted so I asked for the darkest shade. They told me it depends on my base color and I was very pleased with the results (see photo attached). My tan also faded very evenly. I've only been here twice but I'm looking forward to returning now that summer is here. This is now my go-to tanning spot for all purposes and I've referred my friends here who have loved this place just as much. Highly recommend! read more

Shade - Super happy with the color I ended up with! - Spray Tanning Near Me - San Francisco, California

This isn't my first spray tan but was my first time at Shade. The space was clean and professional. I got a quick develop tan (2-4 hours) on a Wednesday for a Fri/Sat event. They said the color I was when I left the salon was similar to the color I would be if I waited ~3 hours to rinse (no soap, luke warm water only). I followed all the pre-tan care exactly as suggested, showered 3 hours after the tan with luke warm water only and did not rub dry with a towel just gently patted. Started moisturizing the next morning to extend the tan. Thursday the tan looked wonderful, no streaks, no color buildup at joints, very even. I had the perfect mid-summer tan (first photo). Thursday evening I took a 5 min body shower before dinner. I used a mild body wash, no exfoliating products, no shaving, no scrubbing, and patted dry. By Friday morning I would say 80% of the spray tan color was gone and by Saturday you couldn't even tell I had gotten one at all (second photo). I've never had a spray tan fade/disappear this fast on my skin. These normally last at least a week on me with subtle fading - not a complete disappearance within 48 hours. Total waste of $100. I will say the girl who performed my spray tan was very nice, seemed to do a very thorough job, made me feel comfortable, and the spray experience itself was fine (hence 2 stars for her only). read more

Best tan ever! I was nervous trying a new place for my wedding tan but had heard great things about shade and they were absolutely amazing! Definitely recommend!! Clean accommodating friendly and amazing work! Even checked in after!! read more

I knew I wanted to get a spray tan for my wedding because I don't typically get a lot of sun and I didn't want to look ghostly white in a white dress. I'd only gotten one other spray tan in the past for our engagement photos in Hawaii, and while I'd really loved how that had turned out, I was unsure if I would get similar results here. Thankfully I found Breanne! She is so wonderful in MANY ways. First, she was super responsive over email and was especially accommodating when I requested an after-hours timeslot because my husband and I both work long hours. Second, she was so professional and fun to work with during the actual spray tan. It's always awkward getting butt-naked in front of a stranger, particularly since I'm four months post-partum and still getting used to my new-ish body, but she made me feel so comfortable and even helped me figure out ways to cover my nipples during the spray tan since I'm currently still breastfeeding. Finally, I loved her attention to detail, including putting vaseline? on my newly done nails so that they would not get stained and making sure to reiterate the plan for doing my first wash in order to get the perfect color that I wanted. Love her! Will definitely be back. read more

Best tan of my life! I always come here when I'm going on a vacation where I need to look extra great! Nobody beats Breanne , she has a technique that is so unique , nobody else has ever given me a tan that boosts my confidence the way her spray tans do! Also I've had Taylor spray me too, and she is sooo talented! I'll never go to anyone else, like ever! read more

Wow, just WOW! I've likely had over 100 spray tans with varying results and the tan I received at Shade was hands down the best! I received the 4 hour rinse rapid tan and it was perfection. My practitioner was Navi and they couldn't have been better. Thorough, detailed, professional, efficient, and fast! Navi gave detailed instructions for optimizing my tanning experience while also highlighting the beneficial differences between Shade tans and their competitors. The difference are vast! I'm a lighter skinned natural redhead but I have a lot of yellow/red/gold undertones which can make color matching difficult. I almost always look a little orange, a little too dark, or have color stain accumulation on my hands and feet..but not this time!! The tan is literally perfect and the color is an exact match to what I look like when I'm actually tan. The location is large, very modern, cute and clean. Shade tan are a little more expensive than their competitors but 100% worth the cost as the results are simply superior. Shade has become my new go-to tanning salon and Navi, my new go-to tanning guru! read more

The best spray tan in San Francisco, by FAR! My tans always look completely flawless and natural, and they use the most modern drying methods and solutions. Navi is soooo good and so sweet! A rare gem! read more

This was my first spray tan, and I'm a total convert! Lexie sprayed me for an upcoming wedding and made my first experience a great one! I got the 8 hour one and medium and golden I believe. It turned out looking so natural and no streaks at all. It was such a positive experience. The shop is cute and clean too. This is also called Shade now (transitioning/rebranding), so don't get confused when you're trying to find it and see the shade sign inside. read more

This use to be called Bronzed by Breanne down in Union Square and is now rebranded as Shade. I LOVE this place and don't trust to get my spray tans anywhere else. The people here are perfectionists and will make sure that you look amazing and natural!!! read more

This was my first professional spray tan and Megan made me feel so comfortable and did such a great job! I love how the color turned out! The tan lasted and then faded very naturally. The service was extremely detailed and great customer service. The price is out of my budget to go regularly, but the whole experience is definitely white glove from start to finish. read more

Book an appointment with Megan ASAP! I had never gotten a spray tan before, and was nervous walking in, however Megan made me feel completely at ease. She's extremely knowledgeable, talented, and friendly. Megan taught me how to best prep before my appointment, and made sure I knew how to best maintain my tan by the time I left. The whole experience was relaxing and quick. Also, the location is gorgeous. The environment is so atheistically pleasing and calming, plus its located near a lot of restaurants and shops. Can't say enough positive things about Shade. read more

Best spray tan I've had. Went on a mission to find best in SF. This is it hands down.

Love the flexibility of mobile tan. Having two young kids it's hard to find time to leave my house to pamper myself. Breanne is professional and personable. Thanks Breanne for making me look naturally sun-kissed even while I'm living in the forever overcast outer sunset. read more

I had a trial and my wedding spray tan done by Breanne and it was so amazing I had to come here to write a review. Breanne is truly an artist and takes such good care in what she's doing. She's a perfectionist and always made sure I was happy with the outcome. I felt so confident and radiant during my wedding weekend because of the beautiful, even glow she gave me. I am never going to another spray tan place as long as I live in the Bay Area - even if I move out of the city, I'll put in the extra effort to come to the Marina for her. Thank you, Breanne! read more

It's not even worth getting a spray tan anywhere else. After going to Breanne all other spray tans seem like a waste. I moved to LA and have yet to find a place I like as much as this. I make sure to stop by when I'm back in the Bay Area. These tans are long lasting and she always finds the perfect color match for what you're looking for. Note: They're going through a rebranding and are going to change the name from "Bronzed by Breanne" to "Shade". New location is on Fillmore St. read more

Let me just start off by saying the last time I had a spray was was YEARS ago and it was a terrible experience. I was really apprehensive about booking a spray tan, but after looking at all the wonderful reviews, I decided to book with Breanne. OMG, this woman is amazing! She listens to your concerns and what your end goal is and gives you exactly that!! She's the sweet, pleasant, professional, and respectful. Her salon is also adorable. A little late with my review but I went to Navi back in December before going on a girl's trip to Vegas and left with the most amazing tan that lasted way longer than I expected and looked SO natural! I didn't even realize how tan I was until it wore off and I immediately looked very pale haha, it never looked orange or patchy! Bonus points for the drying powder they give you as well to apply right after they finish, I've had spraytans before at other places where they send you home wet and it comes off all over your clothes. read more

Breanne is the best - found her thanks to yelp and since then have been several times. Spray tanning in an art and you can't just roll the dice. If you get the wrong person you end up a mess. From the moment I reached out Breanne was prompt and informative, friendly and professional. We arranged time and I headed over to her studio. With every conversation it was clear she knows what she is doing. I'm very particular with spray tans given past experiences and she had me at ease. The formula she uses is high quality and she's a master at blending and knowing who needs what. She works efficiently and you laugh and chat while she turns you into a bronze goddess. Her prices are good and I never have scheduling issues with her. She is my go-to and I wouldn't trust anyone else in SF. Customer for life. read more
