3.5 stars but rounding down since the service was SO slow…read more Osteria Tra Noi is a family run trattoria in Stuttgart that serves rustic Italian food. They are located on a quiet corner in Stuttgart, and we actually ended up there by mistake looking for another restaurant. Although we didn't have reservations, they luckily accommodated us and gave us one of the last tables in the second level area. However, once we were sat, no one came to check in on us or take our order for 10-15 minutes! We had to flag them down while they were taking the other tables order, and we decided on: -Maultaschen w/Cheese Filling (http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/osteria-tra-noi-stuttgart?select=rwzk-THvedZEA5S09XeoxQ#D_5-KVZFATFtY59fUeWDPw): This is the German take on ravioli, and I thought it was good, but needed a sauce on top or something else in the middle aside from just cheese (which had the texture of ricotta). I don't think I would order this again. -Penne Arrabbiata (http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/osteria-tra-noi-stuttgart?select=rwzk-THvedZEA5S09XeoxQ#W6UHdTDSDxDq2HZpBGC_tg): Solid dish, but not amazing. I wish it were spicier. -Steak in Gorgonzola Cheese Sauce (http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/osteria-tra-noi-stuttgart?select=rwzk-THvedZEA5S09XeoxQ#URCCS2v0ZTY2lQpE5krDaA): My favorite dish from the restaurant. I didn't think the gorgonzola sauce would work that well with the steak, but it was really tasty. The steak was cooked well, although it could have used a little extra sear. However, I would order this again. -Veal Scallopini (http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/osteria-tra-noi-stuttgart?select=rwzk-THvedZEA5S09XeoxQ#zq8vnHFKcAwEJOnLwuTPpA): Ok, but nothing special. They gave you a ton of veal though. The best part about dining at Osteria Tra Noi was their homemade bread, which the owner (and server) makes fresh every day. It had a wonderful crust, but the inside was soft and deliciously chewy. Overall, I liked my dinner here but don't know that I would return. They do not speak much English here, so it can be difficult to communicate at times. Parking also seemed tough since there wasn't much street parking available, and we lucked out since we took a cab.

Don't be deceived by the sign on the building ("Hirsch Weinstube") and no sign with the restaurant 's name, you are in the right place (as the menu by the door will attest). There are several different rooms within, so while it is much bigger than I had expected, it didn't feel too large once you are seated. Service was typical, but with the nice touch of rather than asking loudly whether I wanted an English menu, they quietly just gave me one (I clearly can't pass for German yet). My lamb shank in tomato sauce with pearl onions and roasted potato slices was fantastic. The lamb was perfectly cooked so that it was fork tender but not mushy, and the pearl onions and tomato sauce with it were delicious. The roasted potato slices were also nice done, if somewhat plain with just some salt and pepper for seasoning. With the pearl onions or lamb though, they gave a nice little crunch. While the prices were perfectly reasonable (€20 for an entree and beverage), the atmosphere is a little more upscale (plenty of jeans, but all with button down shirts or sweaters). Overall a great combination of reasonable prices, good food, and a slightly nicer atmosphere makes this a great choice for a date night, treating guests, or just grabbing a nice meal when you don't feel like cooking.

I had a delicious Helle beer, a typica German salat with the potato salad and green beans mixed in, and a small piece of toast with some chopped, seasoned tomatoes on top. Then came the Jäger schnitzel with spatzle. Good amount of mushrooms and gravy. You could tell the spatzle was homemade. The only negative was the saltiness. Very salty! The restaurant had a menu in English, which was helpful. The waitress was very prompt, and the food came out quickly. I'm not sure if they normally do this, but when paying the bill the waitress just rounded my bill up and gave me €1 back instead of €1.60. I didn't make a fuss because I was probably going to leave it on the table anyway, but still, don't presume you get to keep it.

Being a block off…read moreVaihinger Straße makes it pretty convenient to get to, and perhaps a little easier to park near than if it was right on Vaihinger Straße (speculation on my part though, I walked). This part of Mohringen seems to have plenty of places to eat, and Lindenhof is certainly a good choice. It's taken some getting used to on my part to just walk in and take a seat, but German restaurants don't have hostesses, and once you take a seat a server will be over sooner or later. For my mid-week lunch, the server showed up quickly enough, as did my food, but it got busier and she was by herself, so the check took a little longer. Overall the service was pretty typical for Germany. As far as food goes, I wasn't feeling too adventurous, so it was just jagerschnitzel and spaetzle for me. The jagerschnitzel was perfectly good; plenty of pork, nice and tender, with a sauce that was flavorful and rich without being too thick. The spaetzle was fine, but not the best I've had. Rather than being served under the pork and sauce it was in a side dish, and for some reason I had a heck of a time trying to get it out and eat it without getting it all over the place. That said, I did like the touch of cinnamon sugar on top, which isn't something I've seen before. Overall I had quite a nice lunch at Lindenhof, and if I was back in the area I'd be perfectly willing to go again.

I was on a trip to Stuttgart and staying in the SI-Spectrum area. I was able to walk here - so convenient! I'm literally writing this review from the table because it couldn't wait. The portion was enough for two meals, but it was so delicious that I couldn't stop!!! I tried. I couldn't! I ordered the German pancake filled with ham and white asparagus topped with hollandaise sauce. Did I mention I couldn't stop eating it??! And of course, a glass of red wine. And the service...the hostess was so warm and welcoming and presented me with a much-needed English menu. And the owner came to check on me throughout the meal. Adopt me please? Danke. I will definitely be back...like every night I have left on this trip because there were about 7 entrees I was trying to decide between...

Despite it's diminutive size though, they put out some good swabian food. The menu isn't terribly long, but they do have a decent list of daily specials, which we had success with. While they have copies of the menu itself in english, the daily specials will be verbally translated, not written down. The server's english on both visits was perfectly good, which is good since my German is extremely limited (schnitzel, brautwurst, currywurst, hefeweizen, and pils are about it). As far as food goes, the smoked salmon entree was a generous portion of smoked salmon, and the warm potato hash brown underneath it made it heartier than just a plate of smoked salmon. It seems like maultaschen is the best way to judge a swabian restaurant, so I went with that and was quite happy with it, although my favorite that I've had so far was at Gaststatte zum Paulaner in downtown. I also really appreciate that most of the meals here come with a side salad, and they dress it more with vinegar than with oil, so it feels more refreshing than most side salads in the US. The complementary plum brandy is a nice way to end the meal; whatever you do, don't shoot it (that would be rude), just sip and enjoy!
