My Spanish is really not very good, so it was a little cumbersome ordering, and I had to profusely apologize to the staff for my inability to really express myself clearly. But, I got their veggie dog "gigante", which is really a long hot dog bun, filled with "carne de soya" in sort of a loose meat style, then topped with all the goodies, and they have tons of them. I sat there with my hot dog, and inhaled it. Thinking about it, now, and only a few days from leaving Santiago, I think I may need to go back before I depart. At the Carrito they offer this along with many different Completo (Chilean style hot dogs) options. They also have a fantastic mini salsa bar. Lots of different aji (chile) mixtures that you can add to your hot dog or hot sandwich. This place is also crowded especially during the wee hours of the mornings. The carrito is a family owned spot and the staff are really nice and really quick. They also serve pop soda drinks to accompany your food, they do not serve alcoholic beverages. The Carrito is right at the beginning of Pio Nono so if you forget to eat before you go out bar hopping you can grab a filling snack before hand.

It's one of the many eateries located at the touristy and popular Patio Bellavista. It's located next to the Starbucks. They offer the usual menu items you'll normally see at McDonalds in the US: Big Macs, cheeseburgers, quarter pounders, McChicken sandwiches (called McPollo), wraps, salads, fries, and McNuggets. I think I came here once or twice because my hostel was super close and I was too lazy to go far and I wanted something relatively cheap and didn't want hot dogs from the carts outside. When I visit McDonalds in other countries, i like to find the special regional items that you can't find in the US. In Chile, they have the McPollo Italiano, which has the chicken plus avocado, tomato, and mayonnaise. It's called Italiano because it had the colors of the Italian flag. You see this avocado/tomato/mayo combo on hot dogs in Chile a lot. The McPollo Italiano was pretty good. McDonalds in Latin America also offer the McNifica, which is pretty much a hamburger with cheese, tomato, onions, and lettuce. The name is fun cuz it sounds like magnífica! The desserts are usually different too - you can get manjar syrup topped ice cream cone - manjar is Chile's dulce de leche, which they love in South America. And sometimes they'll do a McFlurry with a different candy. When I was there, they did a Milka McFlurry but I didn't like it. The chocolate tasted pretty waxy. They also offered a Ritter Sport McFlurry but I didn't try that one.
