We have been banking at TD for years, since first moving here from the States. But TD took a chance on us, and as a result, we were able to build up credit in Canada as we built our life here in Edmonton. We have several accounts at TD - savings, chequing, a US dollar account, and an education fund for our kiddo. And we always receive exceptional customer service from our regular branch on Jasper. They know us by name, and always greet us warmly, offering stickers or toys to our small child. At two-years-old, he has figured out, though, that a bank gives out more than just treats. Last time we were in there, he walked up to the counter and said, "I want money, please." I was mortified, but the employees there thought it was great, and the manager even suggested he come back and work there when he's older. We will undoubtedly still be banking there at that time.

The layout is modern and kinda busts out from the normal that you would often find in a bank. They have an interactive panel that kids can use to play a neat puzzle game. The service here is great. I panicked thinking my accounts had been scammed - eventually to find ATB had transferred my 2 accounts. The 2 account transfers that were cancelled 60 days ago. So my Tangerine accounts are gone and ATB only shows one account transferred in. What has happened and what is going on internally at ATB. This smells.

I left that bank due to lack of confidence and went to BMO. I had a couple of instances where I had payments taken out that were supposed to be canceled with the company and they immediately resolved it and returned the money to my account. If you want a bank that treats you like a person and not just a number I highly recommend BMO. I use the Kingsway Mall location.

It's fast enough, no need to overload the thing. It prints out a little ticket (kinda like VEGAS!) and you can redeem it for cash, or apply it to your BMO credit card, or deposit it to a BMO account. I haven't been 100% successful getting my coins cashed in, 2 out of 4 visits, the machine's been out of service. : ( Parking can be a little busy at noon - stagger your visit time if you're not on a bicycle or on foot.

I was 23 then and in some trouble financially -- paying for the mistakes of my wild child 19 year old self and my first credit card. With a new, steady, well paying job I tried to get a loan to consolidate my debt and was turned down by my new bank-- understandable-- I was still paying for my mistakes. I managed to shark a loan from a family member instead and bartered some settlements on the debt I had accumulated in my dumbness. Eventually I got myself another credit card with a tiny limit and started building myself back up. Fast forward 8 years of which I have been a home owner for the last 2 and my salary has increased by nearly 20k. After banking there for a year or 2, in what felt like a bad trip to the dentist, I convinced River City to extend me a $500 SECURED over draft. $500 And change of MY money is sitting in an account that I can't touch. We are doing some major renos on our first home and I'm definetly carrying some debt right now. That said, when I bought a house in 2015 I got a smokin' deal and paid $40 0000 less than City Appraisal. I know that's not quite equity, but 6 years at the same employer, with middle class income deposited every 2 weeks like clock work should count for something aswell. Shortly after we bought i approached my bank for some revolving credit in order to help ease the burden of buying the fixer upper (and scratch a sudden inset of IKEA itch) "Oh, HELL NO!" they laughed in my face (or may as well have) "but you look like you need another monthly payment so we can offer you a tiny personal loan if you pay a $50 application. " Not easily discouraged and with the wisdom of several new life experiences in my corner I simply approached another bank. I walked into an ATB having never left a single cent of my money there and left that same day with a $5000 line of credit and a pretty bad taste in my mouth for River City. We've been slowly dilly dallying away at our renos, raising a teen who doesnt wear pants unless they're stamped lulu, and somehow, I have written this much without mentioning my small army of animals, or the fact (not to toot my own horn) that I devote most of the rest of my waking hours volunteering for an animal rescue. Point being I'm super busy, eat out more than I should and (If you've been following along) am crappy with money to begin with. I live payday to payday like the rest of the shlubs and am managing some debt with it. Recently a special occasion came up the week the bank account was on empty and had some front end work to do on my jeep. I figured "hey, I've got that $500 just sitting there-- I still don't have an a1 credit score but if a random bank trusts me with $5000 the place I've been depositing my paychecks for nearly a decade shouldn't mind releasing the $500 I gave them 6 years ago" Wrong. Oh, they'll release it-- but I can no longer keep my overdraft. You wanna know the kicker though? I lost my bank card in April. I'm pretty sure one of the foster dogs ate it. I live a hectic life and I'm a fly by the seat of my pants kinda girl. $5 to replace it. As if memorizing that new card number isn't punishment enough. Well, 2 days ago I lost it again. I don't know how-I had it one second and not the next. It just vanished. Atleast not into the belly of a delinquent dog this time. Now the only thing that's stopped me from changing banks in the past is the absolute headache of changing all the direct deposits and auto withdrawals- clearly this banks been dicking me for awhile. I pop in today to get a new card and they tell me it's $25 to replace it the second time. TWENTY FIVE DOLLARS! For a freakin card. Like I'm 31years old-- agreed I have plenty of lessons to learn still-- but I do not need my bank to try and teach them to me. Like who the/why the/what the/how the @#*$! ? Seriously! I've left out a dozen other River City Credit Union inconveniences & I don't know why you'd bank there in the first place when there's only like 3 actual ATMs you can use without getting charged. There's the bad. The good is that their business hours aren't so bad-- if I close my eyes and pretend it's 1976. That isn't really that hard to do when they only started offering e-transfers about a year ago. If you need assistance with your banking or a transaction there is no wait que to call and you get to talk to a real life person pretty much immediatly-- just make sure it's within those dated banking hours because there is no 24 hr toll free hotline to use. Oh, and they finally have an app on the play store- I can't tell if it's legit or some sort of phishing malware- I'm too afraid to download it- but if you know anything about software or coding it's probably good for a chuckle. Using several methods of inquiry, investigated this and was told that the account had been closed. Interesting approach to garnering customers, since it was never opened. No one would advise why it had been closed through email contact. Now pretty much dripping with dread for identity theft, I connected with their call centre. Was advised that they had requested I contact the Credit Bureau to verify that my address and other details had not changed. First of all, no one requested this in mail, email, or by voicemail, though it's possible they emailed and it went to my junk folder. Second, I have deposited large sums of money in other newly created accounts elsewhere and have never been asked to waste my time on this step, so why would I do it for these creatures? Then again, if I had received the request, I would have told them to stuff it, and same outcome, which is that I ensured the account is closed and destroyed all application info I have that relates to this (non) transaction. They told me they can't destroy the record of my application, which is my second largest regret regarding having made the mistake of having any contact at all with PC Financial. My biggest regret, of course, is the complete waste of time (and the secondary frustration arising from that) incurred through contact with this entity that calls itself a financial institution. I mean, they're putatively a bank, and they fail completely at setting up a simple deposit account? TL;DR: Don't try to bank here. Like really don't. Wow.

My credit card had always been here though and it was going to be retired in its current fashion - as a no-fee Gold Visa. When my card expired in November I would be changed to the next available no-fee option, which I didn't really care for. I also knew that I wanted to change to a MasterCard because we are Costco customers and want to have some rewards from the shopping we do there between the store and the gas station. I did a month or more of research of different cards with different rewards from travel rewards to cash back. While I got lots of information, it still left me feeling with a little information overload. I made an appointment to speak with an advisor about the credit card. I met with Rodney and he was absolutely amazing. We spoke about what I was looking for in rewards - mainly I wanted my money, the way I do my spending, benefit us in the best way possible. There was one Royal Bank MC that I was looking at and we brought that up. I also showed him the others that I have found. I was very impressed at how objective he was. He truly looked at things from my perspective but was able to provide some counsel based on his experience in the industry. We broke the cards between travel rewards and cash back so we could completely compare apples to apples. He even looked into some of the insurance offerings within each card. Through an hour of consultation we were able to take various cards off the table based on my own personal preferences - not because any of the were not good cards. In the end I was very comfortable with the card I chose and very excited as well! I stayed with an RBC card, but it wasn't even the one that was on my list! We added it on through our discussion! All of this was due to Rodney's service, consideration, and attention to detail. He is a fantastic ambassador of Royal Bank.
