I recently went to the Takapuna Salon to get my hair done for a wedding but had booked in at the Newmarket one. Oops. Luckily they rearranged their day to fit me in and I am so grateful as if they hadn't I would've had to of tamed my crazy hair myself! That would not have been fun at all. Things were getting dire as my regrowth went past the stage where I could legitimately pass it off as balayage and so I booked an apt at Oscar & Co. I could tell Jerome was going to be great from the get go. He did a really thorough consultation before we got started and then absolutely delivered on both the cut and colour. But the cherry on top was that he asked if i'd like to come in the following week for a free blow dry, "just to check-in and see if I wanted any styling tips." What a champ! I went here awhile ago and was really impressed. My sister currently still goes here and is always happy with the outcome. The place itself is modern and clean and sets a good precedent for your expectations. It is a family business and many members of the family work here creating a really nice feel. The lady that greets you at the front desk is lovely and full of energy, visit once and she'll always remember your name. The head massages you get while getting a shampoo are awesome, and perhaps a little too good. The girl I had was really nice and listened to what I was saying. I didn't get anything special so couldn't see the full extent of her talents, but what she did was great. It is a bit expensive, but I would rather pay more for a good job than have to get something re-done.

Why yes that was what I wanted actually, I said yes and like magic another lady appeared from a back room, I was going to get my hair cut! She asked what I wanted, so I told her and when I mentioned tidying up my fringe she nodded and vocally agreed that this was in order. First off, to wear non covered in footwear, she must be fairly confident with the scissors so I was confident I had come to the right place. After all, cutting hair for over a decade, I'd say she was pro. I had a dry cut, which lets face it, after your hair is washed and towel dried it is about as wet as what it was when mine was sprayed with a water bottle. My hair was layered, ends trimmed and fringe cut all in around 30 minutes, I was so impressed. My hair looked way better than it did previously and for only $35. You can't beat that. There isn't anywhere that would but hair of my length for under $65. I was stoked.

I have been to several Korean hairdressers and they are always so good at what they do, and the ladies at Missha hair are no exception. When I first sat down and discovered that there was a significant language barrier between myself and the girl who was about to cut my hair, I felt skeptical. I described to her what I wanted done, nothing to fancy, just a bit off the top and a bit more off the sides, she nodded her head and smiled in a way which revealed that she understood none of what I had just said. In a charade of hand gestures, I made a second attempt to tell her what i wanted, soon just giving up, and giving her the thumbs up to let her know she could start cutting. I was taken aback by the speed which this woman could use scissors, 10 minutes later I was left with one of the best haircuts I have ever had (nothing close to what i asked for).

This review is with respect to the waxing. A friend of mine told me about this place, said she had been and it was the bet wax she had ever had, so I went the following week. She was right, I still come here. What is different is the wax they use. It is not strip wax. The hot wax is applied to your skin, it cools and becomes like a thick film on your skin at which point the beauty therapist peels it off like a plaster, no pain. It is formulated to only take out the hair, it only adheres to the hair, not your skin. That is why you should go, painless waxing, it is possible. Great professional staff too, clean facilities and private rooms. I recommend it highly.

She was lovely - very professional and didn't chat throughout the massage, which in my book is essential! I guess the idea with a hot stone massage is that the heat relaxes the muscles further. There's no doubt it was relaxing - I was verging on falling asleep - but if I am honest I think deep tissue massages are more up my alley. Just a personal preference thing...
