I'm going to need a chaise longue to lie down on, a cool cloth for my head, and an amaro spritz to write this review. LSS, my first in-person experience with Sermoneta where someone - I'm not going to identify the culprit - insisted on buying me two pairs of the softest, most beautiful gloves that you've ever seen. Last year, in a sartorial tragedy, I lost a pair of Sermoneta gloves (first pair of gloves that I've ever lost in my life, including as a child, and they had to be Sermoneta...). A pox on the person at the Toronto resto who said that they didn't find them!
The most obvious way to heal my wound was to go to Sermoneta in its country of origin. This outpost is a two-level store on the Piazza di Spagna. Wonderful service; the woman who helped me has been working at the same store for 25 years.
This is not a place for bargain hunters. On the upside, you can zip across the piazza to the Global Blu Vat refund centre. Hint: when they ask you if you want a beverage say yes, because they take a significant commission (larger than what the woman told me it would be). There is an additional charge if you want your refund in cash (because they can claw back the refund on your credit card, but not if you walk out the door with money in hand).
Have to go work now to save up for the next trip to Sermoneta! read more
