What an amazing experience! The coaches and students were welcoming and ready to guide us through their process. Thank you! read more

Might be great for instruction and culture. However, they wanted to charge a $50 mat fee for dropping in. Not great for the BJJ community. I am a black belt successful in world wide competitions and training. First time I have ever been charged 50 bucks for a drop in. Scratching them off the list read more

Great school with top notch instruction! Sergio is just an all around great guy with a passion for BJJ.

Family - Loyalty - Respect. These 3 words is the credo of Sergio Penha's Brazilian Jiu Jitsu academy and is a perfect description of what you'll experience here. My review is from the perspective of someone with no combat sport experience, who was curious but always somewhat intimidated to check out Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. Sergio, his instructors and students are all very friendly, welcoming and very tough! I've seen many of his students at all levels roll/spar and everything is at a high level of skill and energy. BJJ is full contact and I'm constantly out of my comfort zone but I'm in a controlled environment with some great BJJ practitioners who help me get better. I get pushed to my physical capabilities and every class ends with a feeling of accomplishment. It's very addicting in many ways as you become stronger physically and mentally while learning BJJ. Sergio is an amazing teacher with decades of BJJ experience as one of only 21 8th degree Black Belts in the world. He breaks down Jiu Jitsu in a way someone with no experience (like myself) can pick up. Every move is with purpose and it's explained to you clearly how and WHY we're performing the moves as we learn and perform them. Additionally, every single person I've been paired up with takes his same approach teaching others. Everyone is there to get better and make others better as well. I've just started my Brazilian Jiu Jitsu journey and I'm very fortunate to come across Sergio's. Sergio is so personable, friendly and his leadership trickles down to his students throughout the academy. There's a great positive vibe and everyone there is ready to put in work and push each other. Whether you're the greenest beginner like myself, or someone who's been practicing BJJ for many years, you'll feel right at home at Sergio Penha's. Enjoy...! =) read more

So I'm bias, Sergio is not only a mentor he is a Master of Jiu Jitsu as well! I could stop at mentioning his 37 yrs as a black belt and the countless number of great Jiu Jitsu and MMA fighters he's molded or shown the true meaning of pressure! Sergio's school is no joke! Everyone greats you with a smile and everyone is welcomed as a member of the family. He is without a doubt royalty in the would of Jitz! Now he doesn't get as much press as the Graces do but don't underestimate his influence here in the US! I recall when I first joined, one day I counted 11 black belts present in class! All the guys from whiteto black are top notch! I can say I trained with most of the big names in Vegas, guess if you rolled all of them together maybe they would have Sergio's level of experience! If your in Vegas and your at the beginning your journey, or if you've been around the block come, by the Spring Mountain location you won't regret! If your already in town and sick of training with a guy with a giant ego, or a part time teacher and a full time fighter?! You owe it to learn from the root of modern Jiu Jitsu! Again I'm bias, and I currently live in NYC and train with another legend, in Marcello. They are really one in the same, very confident, humble and masters of the art of grappling warfare! Honor, respect, family! read more

I've been faithfully attending for the last 6 months with my family. I don't do reviews very often so i wanted to wait a while until formulating my opinion. It is challenging, but it's rewarding. It's scary initially, but it makes you more confident. You'll get "boo boos", but will become stronger the more often you attend. My daughter attends the kids class (MWF @ 4:30pm) and she LOVES it. The instructor is Master Sergio himself. He's an 8th degree Black Belt instructor of which there are only 21 of them in the world. He pays meticulous attention to detail and the kids soak up his instruction like a sponge. My wife and I attend the adult class immediately after the kids class which is also taught by Master Sergio. My body composition has changed drastically because of his training and I am no longer pre-diabetic. My wife feels much more empowered and is now comfortable rolling (Jiu-Jitsu term for sparring) with both men and women. If you are curious about joining or making a financial commitment, then don't worry, you can train here for free for a week with no obligation to continue. You'll meet a plethora of great people from all different occupational fields (Doctors, Lawyers, Law Enforcement, Teachers, IT Professionals, Entrepreneurs, Private Business Owners, etc) that all share the same things in common....getting healthy and learning Jiu-Jitsu! My only regret is that I did not start this years ago (I'm in my 40's) as this is the best family activity that we've ever done. read more

Absolutely amazing! This is one of the most addicting and amazing thing I have ever signed up for and did! It's not only an amazing work out but you learn self defense and get properly trained on how to move and how things work you do all of the techniques as well as rolling to improve and see what others are doing and why they are doing it the best jujitsu gym read more

I attended a women's self-defense class at this gym last month and it was such an awesome experience. I was pretty intimidated to go to the class just cause I didn't have any past experience when it comes to self-defense or jiu jitsu, but the trainers there were very patient and encouraging. The gym and their trainers are very welcoming which made the whole learning experience very rewarding. The class was 2 hours long and I was able to learn a variety of different techniques in self-defense in which I can use in real life. Whether you are a beginner like me or a trained expert, this gym is excellent for any types of training. read more

If you live near here, this is the place to learn BJJ. With so many places to train in Las Vegas, I can see why some people get confuse to where to train. But seriously Sergio Penha is the MAN! If you really want to learn BJJ, you need to do yourself a favor and try this place. Sergio is a legend in this sport. His skills and his teaching are phenomenal. I took a class with him during a business trip and was extremely impressed. Sergio is a great teacher, his place has a good vibe. Can't really ask for more. FYI he moved to 3904 Schiff Dr. And the street is actually a parking lot. read more

I've been training martial arts for 20 years now and been a professional mixed martial artist for over 10 years. I've trained and competed all over the world and Sergio Penha is the best guy I have ever been on the mat with. He is a true legend and pioneer of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu (BJJ) who has been training for 40 years now. Sergio trains everyone from students with no martial arts experience to professional athletes at the highest level of their sport. The best thing about Sergio Penha BJJ is the family atmosphere. There are no ego's at his gym and everyone helps everyone to be the best they can be. Sergio teaches a unique blend of BJJ that can be used for everyday self defense, brazilian jiu jitsu competitions or even professional mixed martial arts style competition. I've seen examples first hand of Sergio helping to change peoples lives. I've seen it in many forms. Some people gain confidence they never had before in everyday life, others get in the best shape of their lives and others achieve their dreams of competing as a professional athlete. Sergios school is based on 3 principles: Loyalty, Family, Respect. Like I said earlier, I have trained in every style of martial art in my journey and there is no doubt that Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is the single best art you and your family can do for self defense purposes in todays world. It is a very effective approach using technique, leverage and intelligence to defeat larger stronger opponents. Brazilian Jiu Jitsu also uses the gi which is a martial arts uniform that mimics clothes a person would wear in everyday life. You wear a top with a collar, you have pants and you have a belt. All of these translate to self defense in real life as your attacker would 99.9% of the time be wearing clothes (at least lets hope). Do yourself a favor and check it out now for a free week. Sergios gym offers adult classes, kids classes and now a new womens self defense class. Chances are I will see you guys there! SergioPenha.com read more

I have been fortunate to train with many blackbelts around the country. Sergio Penha is hands down the best instructor, technician and leaders I've met. You can tell the tone of a gym by knowing the head instructor. Sergio and his students fulfill their motto of "Family Loyalty Respect". In order to train BJJ you have to trust your training partners while still pushing the pace. Sergio's is a safe, fun and competitive place to train. Whatever your goal is (self defense, fitness, competitive BJJ/MMA) you can get there under Sergio's guidance. In the past few years there have been many "big name" MMA and BJJ fighters that have sought out Sergio. BJ Penn and Bernardo Faria have both had extended stays at the gym. Grant is an amazing kids teacher. He works really well with young kids all the way though teens. His students regularly place in tournaments around the country. Come in and check out the gym for yourself. read more

Visited here during my trip to Las Vegas for World's Masters. Super friendly and inviting place. Sergio was so nice and took care of everyone, making sure they had partners relatively close to their size. He had a hearty and affable way of teaching Jiu Jitsu and tying it into his life stories. Definitely enjoyed the class. read more

Sergio is Awesome, a great instructor, he is very knowledgeable, knows his Discipline! Everyone who trains.. checks there Egos at the door, and helps each other out. I've been training at Sergio Penha's for 3 weeks now and can't recommend Sergio and his school highly enough! Most of the other reviews have hit the major highlights so this will be brief. After checking out 5 other BJJ schools in Las Vegas I chose to train at Sergio Penha's over all the others I researched. For me, it was an easy decision. Sergio's positive attitude, friendly demeanor, his vast knowledge of BJJ and his passion for his students and teaching Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is unparalleled. read more

Stopped by here for an afternoon class that's about an hour and a half. Everyone I partnered with was friendly welcoming. It was a small group. I learned a lot but the drop in fee was pretty high for just one class. read more

Loyalty, Family, Respect - these are the three things Sergio Penha is about. Don't step into this gym with an ego, you will be eaten by the lions. Don't train with a guy to kill him, you'll feel the wrath of the family. And don't come in without willing to learn, because you won't succeed. Sergio Penha is a father figure to many people, as well as a best friend and mentor. He's taught people how to be confident with themselves through his art of Jiu Jitsu. His style consists of blending Brazilian Jiu JItsu with Judo, and he will teach practical techniques with his professional MMA fighters. As a student you will learn everything there is to learn about grappling and combat sports, because you will train side-by-side world class fighters and grapplers. Sergio's gym isn't like the modern day gyms that are meant to be fashionable and preppy. Sergio Penha has constructed a gym built on truly helping people become better human beings through Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. The people in the gym will constantly challenge you and try to beat you at your best, and I think this unique challenge is what makes a man be a man. Sergio is not afraid to say what needs to be said to make you become the best person you will possibly be. I highly recommend this gym to anyone and everyone. People that train here include university-level student and teachers, professional fighters, businessmen, and all their family members. Everyone at Sergio's coincide with each other in one rhythm and I think everyone can learn immensely when they immerse themselves into Sergio Penha's gym. read more

I spent a year and a half training at Sergio's academy when I lived in Las Vegas. I look back at m time there fondly. I still use many of the things he taught to me. Not just things about Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, but about life and people. The training there is always tough and the people(students) at the gym are very nice as well. I am still friends with some of the people that I trained with there. If you're close to this lace, it's foolish to not go check it out read more

Stopped in here during a trip to Vegas during an open mat on the advice of a friend who trains there. The competition was FIERCE, the rounds were long, but it was a great workout and everyone was very welcoming. It was an open mat so Sergio didn't have to be there, but he was, spending time and talking with his students (and even me). Crazy to see his red belt just hanging up in the locker room. If you're thinking about BJJ and live in/around Vegas, you'll be hard pressed to find a more focused, traditional BJJ school. Lots of talent here. read more

Sergio Penha is a legend. He is very humble and creates an atmosphere for a gym that is very comfortable. The students who train with him are also very nice and reflection to who he is. Very comfortable to say the least. I will train with him for the rest of my life read more

Sergio Penha is a true master and legend in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu who leads by example. I train at Sergio Penha's academy every time I visit Las Vegas. Not only do I get to learn directly from Sergio himself, but I also get to experience a sense of camaraderie, family, loyalty, and respect from Sergio and his students. It's a fantastic school with great energy and positive students. I travel all around the country and visit many BJJ schools, but I'm always blown away at the sense of family and technical level at Sergio Penha's academy. I can't recommend this school enough. Stop reading and start training at Sergio Penha's academy! read more

I came to see Sergio as a drop in at the recommendation of my instructor in March when I was here for my daughter's soccer tournament. I travel quite a bit for work and for family events and I always make it a point to try and drop by some local gyms when I'm in town. Sergio is FANTASTIC. Sergio is incredibly welcoming and nice and it trickles down to his students. He's also an incredible teacher with a vast fund of knowledge. His Jiu Jitsu makes sense and he breaks it down in a way that's easy to assimilate in to your game regardless of your stylistic preferences. I have the greatest admiration and respect for this man and his school. Thank you very much for having me. read more

With one of the only verified pedigrees in the city worth paying money to train under, Sergio Penha has the history and the knowledge to prove that his approach to BJJ is second to none. With a no frills attitude to his training style, Sergio doesn't rely on gimmicks and showy facilities to prove that his students are some of the most well trained and disciplined in the city. If you know jujitsu as a lifetime practitioner or are just starting, passing on Sergio Penha's Brazilian Juijitsu is a total miss.
