I hired Sergeant T's Tree Service for a crown reduction on two oak trees and removal of a dead palm at my rental property, based on a positive experience with them a couple of years prior. Unfortunately, this time around, the service was a complete disappointment, marked by poor communication, substandard workmanship, and highly unprofessional behavior from the owner. From the outset, scheduling was haphazard. After several delays and changes (including switching from a full tree removal back to trimming due to my own plans), the crew showed up unannounced on a Friday in late October, without confirming the date with me in advance. This gave me no opportunity to notify my tenants, who were understandably upset by the sudden intrusion. The job was rushed through in a single day, starting around midday and continuing until nearly 9:30 p.m., which was disruptive and unacceptable for a residential property with occupants. During the work, the crew failed to use ground protection pads--unlike their previous visit--resulting in significant damage to the yard's terrain, including ruts and torn-up grass (or what the owner dismissively called "weeds"). They left a considerable mess behind, with debris scattered, and only partially cleaned up after I raised concerns. When I addressed these issues via text, the owner responded defensively, making excuses about the job's complexity (e.g., heavy logs and machinery constraints) rather than taking responsibility. He did eventually offer a $300 discount off the $1,800 quote, bringing the total to $1,500, but this did little to offset the poor quality and hassle. The situation escalated post-job when I requested a roof inspection to ensure no damage from falling branches. The owner admitted to trespassing on the property without permission--climbing onto the roof to take photos on a Sunday while I was with my family and without notifying me or the tenants. This was a clear violation of privacy and property rights, especially with renters present. In our text exchanges, he made multiple threatening remarks, including warnings to dump the hauled debris back on my property if payment was delayed, filing a lien immediately, and even joking about calling code enforcement on my tenants' business van (which he later claimed was "just kidding"). He also insulted my property maintenance, accused me of trying to "weasel" out of payment, and used sarcastic language like "Are you serious right now?" when I expressed dissatisfaction. Throughout the conversation, the owner's tone was confrontational, dismissive, and laced with personal attacks, such as implying I was "stupid" for not understanding his explanations about equipment. As a firefighter, I appreciated his shared military background initially, but it did not excuse the lack of professionalism. This experience was unsettling and far below the standards expected from a licensed tree service in South Florida. I strongly advise potential customers to look elsewhere. There are many reputable tree companies that prioritize clear communication, quality work, and respect for clients and their properties. I'll give a middle of the road rating. I've heard others in my city say they had good experiences with them, so I'll have to say they're not all bad, but, my experience was not a pleasurable one. My experience would have warranted a 1 star. I had to repeatedly reach out to get a response. When I finally did get a response one time he said he got Covid but to give him my address again so he could come out and take a look so he could give me an estimate. I had to reach out again two weeks later when I hadn't heard back, I had to give my address again. When he came out to visit, it felt like he just pulled a number out of the sky. It seemed high, but, they had coke recommended, seemed to have good professional equipment, so I don't mind paying a premium rate if I'm getting premium service. When they did come out, I felt optimistic because they laid a thin patch of rubber for the equipment to go over our brand new driveway to make their way to our backyard. They got the bucket lift to our back yard (and it tore the entire yard up) I will say it's not the worst because we are getting a pool soon, so it's going to get dug up soon anyway. They then went to get another piece of equipment to our back yard to lift the pieces of the tree and bring it to their chipper up front. It broke down halfway up the driveway. So someone tried working on that for hours while they had to go old school with wheel barrow and carry by hand. We had just gotten our house painted right after we got our driveway done. I say that, because, after cutting down lots and lots of limbs, they filled the entire yard with them and as people grabbed limbs to drag out they dragged them along the side of the house leaving streaks all along the new paint job. They also left drag marks on the driveway since the rubber they put down to protect from the treads of the equipment, wasn't wide enough to protect the driveway from the branches they dragged across it. I pressure cleaned and the marks didn't come out, so I'll have to Hope over time they can come out. I had to repaint parts of the side of the house since pressure cleaning didn't help that either. Most of the way through they said they weren't going to be able to finish the job because the branches had grown in between the power lines. Something they should have caught when they came out to give the estimate. So I was left with one tree cut down and one tree mostly cut with but still 60 feet in the air that I now have to wait for FP&L to get their people to come out and trim. Then I still have to take care of the rest of the tree as the FP&L people won't take down the rest of the tree. So, in my experience, I'm totally disappointed. But, as I said, others have had good experiences with them. So, have them out to give you an estimate and feel for yourself if you think you want to work with them. read more

I am late in getting this review in. In May, I called my usual tree service to come out and help me by trimming a crazy tree that drops thousands of pink buds all over my mine and my neighbor's drive way every day. I was told that they were very busy and could come out for a couple of months. I than called Sergeant's and they came out the next day, Saturday, gave me a lower quote than my usual company and included trimming my palms and some limbs from an Oak and have in my front yard, all for the same low price. Their next appointment was Monday morning, 2 days later, and showed up with a large crew, a large cherry picker truck and did an excellent job. Everyone was very respectful, professional, and friendly. Sergeants is now my Tree service going forward. I highly recommend them. read more

I would Highly recommend these guys! Came by my property trimmed 3 trees took the debris with them the workers were all polite a professional outfit. All wearing safety equipment and helmets got to work. The foreman who does the cutting was accommodating cutting what I asked for. Showed up with like 4 trucks. I don't usually leave reviews...unless I'm extremely impressed with something. Well, Sergeant T's Tree Service was exceptional. We had a huge Mahogany tree that needed a good trimming. Joe and his friendly and professional crew came out and did a fantastic job! The tree now looks great, and we no longer have to worry about the big mahogany nuts falling on our cars. The price was reasonable, and everyone was careful and cleaned up the area nicely afterwards. I highly recommend Sergeant T's and will not hesitate to call them again.
