I Choose Recovery (ICR) is a new non-profit option that offers affordable transitional housing to…read morethose in need. By that I mean, those who are referred by social workers and that may be transitioning out of drug rehab, prison, or jail. Covering nearly an entire block in the City Heights neighborhood of San Diego, ICR will eventually accommodate up to 80 residents looking for a safe, structured, and centrally-located clean living environment. Purposely looking to aid those men and women who desire a fresh start-it is so much more than that. There exist a host of resources to help change come about in all aspects of life. A few of the many helpful tools offered include: fully furnished residences, community facilities, medical and dental through La Maestra Community Health Centers, 12-step meetings, Community Garden projects, Computer Labs with internet access, Music & Art Lab, 15-seat passenger van, on-site laundry facilities, food pantry, job opportunities and placement assistance, and volunteer opportunities for community service requirements. There will be a Pancake Breakfast on May 1, 2010 from 8-11:30 a.m. at the Fire House Museum at 1572 Columbia Street, San Diego, CA. 92101. The price is $6 and half the proceeds go toward the ICL Housing and the half will benefit the "Get on The Bus" Ministry from the Rock Church-which sends the children of the incarcerated on a bus to visit their parents in jail. The Rock Church Prison Ministry is actively involved with the ICL Housing program, as they are in the prisons ministering to those behind bars. Many of the prisoners need services when they are paroled or released from jail, and the ICL is a natural extension of providing that which is badly needed by those who are transitioning back into society. The potential residents are pre-screened, vetted, and referred by Prison Ministry Chaplains and Pastors. They are given health and medical testing before being allowed to move in. There are strict rules to follow and abide by. The Prison Ministry has taken a few Church personnel over to check the place out, and I can say it is wonderful that such a valuable resource is available to transitioning persons. This program is badly needed in the community and I am glad to see that there are actual opportunities for those serious about clean-living to get it right and become valued participating members of their communities.

Each morning, my mom was thoughtfully dressed and cared for with dignity, which meant so much to our family. The staff showed remarkable patience and kindness, especially in helping her with frequent toileting and ensuring she was always clean and comfortable. When she first arrived after her fall, she was in significant pain--so much so that even turning in bed or transferring was extremely difficult. The team handled her care with such gentleness and understanding during that challenging time. Thanks to the dedication and support from the rehab team, she made steady progress and, within just three weeks, was able to leave and walk again using her walker. We would also like to extend special thanks to the Director of Nursing, Alice Famador, who consistently went above and beyond--taking the time to personally address any concerns, even outside of regular working hours. That level of commitment and accessibility truly made a difference. We also greatly appreciate the excellent coordination of care with the team from St. Paul's PACE, (special thanks to Bo, social worker), which helped ensure a smooth and safe transition back to her assisted living. Their collaboration and attention to detail gave us confidence and peace of mind during the discharge process. Special thanks as well to Dr. Jaime Stull, who made herself readily available to promptly address any issues. Her thoughtful guidance and collaborative recommendations were invaluable and deeply appreciated. My family sincerely appreciate the professionalism, compassion, and hard work of the entire team. I have struggled with mental health challenges for most of my life. No matter how much effort I put…read morein, I often didn't respond to traditional treatments. In September 2025, my psychiatrist, NP Shadette Soriano, recognized that something still wasn't right and recommended HealthyU's PHP and IOP programs. I am incredibly grateful that I took her advice. From beginning to end, my experience with HealthyU has been nothing short of life-changing. It's true that "it gets worse before it gets better," and I feel so fortunate to have had such compassionate clinicians and supportive peers beside me during the hardest parts of treatment. After nearly six months in the program, I came out stronger, more prepared to manage my illnesses, and learning to love myself a little more along the way. There is no way I could have done this without HealthyU. IOPs are called intensive for a reason. There is a full curriculum, deep emotional work, and days when you want to quit--my advice: don't. You don't have to show up at 100% every day -- the facilitators will meet you wherever you are and help carry the percentage you don't have. They genuinely care about every person who walks through those doors and truly want you to succeed. The group setting reminds you that you are not alone. The peer support is something you never forget. I have made lifelong friends who understand me without judgment, and I offer them that same understanding in return. In my heart, I know I would not be where I am today if I hadn't admitted myself to HealthyU. I don't know if I would even still be here. If you are feeling lost, lonely, or afraid that life will always feel this way, please consider HealthyU. There are people there who care deeply about you and will help you find your way forward.

Welp 2 weeks later and not a single message or call. He said they needed to find me a detox but that there's a "team" for that. It's funny because I called my insurance and was given names of approved detox centers in less than 5 minutes. Called them and was able to get in with no issue...thankfully. To think of all the people who don't advocate for themselves and continue with their addiction because companies don't care to even help them. No wonder people are struggling when you have companies like this. Definitely letting my insurance know to stop working with them. What a shame!!

There was so much going on here in this facility and the director of nursing and the head honcho, Trevor were not interested in any complaints! I, at the time was 52 years old and within all of my faculties. I was there for rehabilitation of a broken arm and trouble walking. The director of nursing was disrespectful and when asked to not come to my room anymore she continued to do so. This continued until I called the state again and she finally stopped after 8 months of being there and 3 phone calls to the county! They had a cat there that risked the hallways and threw up in the rooms and was in and out regardless of the fact that I'm severely allergic and I let the. Know this! Is wake up to the cat sitting in my window seal in my room starring at me. Again. I had to call the state to have that addressed because they did nothing about it until they were penalized for it. It was a horrible experience to be there. If your family is not with you in the facility you will be mistreated, I promise!!
