In a room inside Bellisima Salon, KT transports you to a different place. I had gotten a Groupon thinking I was going to just get a massage, but KT went over a "balancing" segment before the massage. I have to say that I was skeptical at first-- I mean I know about stretching, right?! Uh, wrong. I did NOT know about stretching. The beautiful thing about life is that there is always something to learn, at every age. While KT helped me stretch and extend my range of motion, we talked about life and she opened me up to so many different perspectives and shared her wisdom with me. And it all somehow related back to my massage, such as when I was trying to hold back tears when she went all-in my thigh with her elbows. She told me to let it go and that holding onto such pain was not good for me. That was deep on so many levels, man. Not only did I learn more about my body and how to balance myself, I got a relaxing massage afterwards. She worked hard to loosen my knots and focused on areas I didn't obviously feel were stressed but somehow she knew they were stressed. You get me? KT had said the post-massage effects of other massages only last 2-3 days whereas hers lasts 2-3 weeks. I'm coming onto Week 1 and I have to say that I don't feel as tired, I feel more balanced and that in turn encourages me to continue seeking a balanced lifestyle, and I find myself having more stamina in my workouts. My friend who did the Groupon with me but on another day had reported feeling an improved circulatory system and feeling refreshed as well. She was especially gracious in accommodating my request to reschedule our original date. At the appointment itself, KT practiced COVID-safe measures, provided clean towels, and washed her hands frequently. I completed a 1-page form describing my physical therapy needs, and we began the session. In the first hour, KT took me through a series of stretches, describing what she was doing and why, with a teaching intention, that I might try the exercises again at home. In the second hour's massage, KT rubbed oils with a familiar aroma into my skin. Though I didn't mention it at the time, the scent unexpectedly called forth latent, warm memories of my grandfather rubbing a similarly scented oil into my temples whenever I had headaches as a small child. KT gave pleasant conversation, detailing her studies and personal mission as a physical therapist. Her professional touch is gentle and strong, and she encouraged prompting for adjustments and questions. I most enjoyed her massaging my shoulders in a manner I'd never experienced by others' hands, when she pressed down in a firm, raking motion that felt appropriately painful, yet provided great relief. I just had my first session with Katie, and felt that I needed to take the time to write this review. I suffer from chronic lower back pain and tightness in my shoulders. After some thorough research on Yelp, I decided to check out Serene Serenity (Katie Feamster). I already had an idea of what to expect (thanks, fellow Yelpers!), but was still pleasantly surprised with the whole experience. So, first things first. Her massage/kinesiology room is located within Foothill Physique Studio, a private gym/physical therapy. When you're driving south on Shamrock, you have to make a right on Fig Ave and go past the locked gate and enter through the first opening of the parking lot. There is ample parking and you enter through the Studio. Once you make your way through the Studio, you come to Katie's quiet, serene massage room with soothing music and the faint scent of essential oils. Katie immediately put me at ease with her open, welcoming presence and calming demeanor. As she took me through each of the stretches and exercises, she expressed deep knowledge of the craft and clearly and patiently explained everything she was doing. I was confident that I was in very capable hands. She even gave me some helpful pointers that I will definitely be practicing on my own, including proper sleep position, effective and instant cramp relief, and even focused stretches/massages I could do with my fiance. Throughout the session, it became apparent that care for the body and entire well-being is her #1 priority, and she definitely did not rush the process. After the full body tune-up, she gave me a deep-tissue massage with cooling lotion and essential oils, I had a little trouble "letting go" at times and tended to tense up (probably because I'm not used to massage), but Katie patiently talked me through it all. She had an almost uncanny sense of the areas of my body that needed extra TLC and gently but firmly worked them. After the session, she gave me some water and advised me to drink tons of water when I got home. I left the studio feeling more grounded/balanced - and, I dare-say, renewed. I would highly recommend making an appointment to see Katie! I bought a Groupon for a 90 minute massage. What I was provided with, was a 60 minute "kinesiology" and "reflexology" stretch, with clothes on, while I was educated about how to "take care of my body". I was told, "first we're going to do some stretching" (which lasted for over 60 minutes, then I was provided with a 30 minute massage (clothes off) with ICY HOT! In addition, I had called and clarified that I was 7 months pregnant, and was informed that she would be able to provide me with a "pregnancy massage". Being pregnant, I am not allowed to lie on my back for long amounts of time due to the possibility that the baby could lose oxygen (pretty common knowledge for people that are pregnant or practitioners working with pregnant people) . I laid on my back for 80 minutes of the session, and when I brought up that I am not allowed to lay on my back, she told me "I was never told that when I was pregnant". I paid for a 90 minute relaxing massage, not a 60 minute stretching session while being talked to about her personal life, the power of prayer, and lessons on how to sleep better, walk better, etc etc. If I could give negative stars, I would. read more
