Northern Regional College is basically a vocational college where you can study in many areas…read more They offer GCSE, AS, and A Level qualifications, for anyone who maybe didn't do as well in school as they had hoped, for those who wish to get their A Levels to progress to Uni, or even for those who just want to get the qualifications for personal development. In additon, many specific courses are offered, such as BTEC qualifications, Diplomas, National Diplomas, and Higher Diplomas. They also have a number of short term courses (such as those in computer proficiency, councelling, holistic therapy) and 'fun' courses, such as conversational French, Wine tasting, and cookery. I have attended the college in the past to undertake two different courses, which I enjoyed thorougly, and was very impressed by the resources on offer to me there. The college is ideally located just outside Belfast, and has ample parking space and a train station a short walk away, so it is easily accessible for anyone in the area or further afield who wishes to further their education.

The complex is terrific and as well as being a great academic place for learning, it also doubles up as almost a little town centre, complete with shops, cafes and banks. Everything a student needs to spend money. My only issue is the working areas i.e. the large computer suite is a very loud place and if one was trying to do work, you would struggle to get peace in this room. Also, the library, though very large, looks like a poor Queen's Library and though it does seem much quieter (which is a huge bonus) it is dwarfed by Queen's new library so if I weren't able to use the new Queen's library, I would be a little disappointed. However, as far as an academic institution goes, this one is very impressive.

Firstly, the campus is situated far from Belfast, which means unless you live locally the bus journey out will certainly put you off heading to class on the many, many cold days we experience in this part of the world. Secondly, it looks like a prison. I'm not sure if it's just me but one massive building, aged in that late 70s early 80s fashion is utterly depressing. It's made up of one aching long hall, which is then divided off to 'blocks' (can you see what I mean about the prison thing) Each block is almost identical, there is no character whatsoever to this bulging monstrosity of a building. Thirdly, there are a huge number of people doing degrees which are only degrees in name alone. I'm not a sporting person but the huge numbers of country fellows and lassies who are always dressed on University of Ulster tracksuits drives me insane. I'm still not 100% certain if they own any other attire...
