Husband - "Idk why you ordered so much food..." Me - "What?? Screw you buddy you ordered more than…read moreme!!" Both of us laughing uncontrollably.. It's a good problem to have on your honeymoon when you order way too much food esp at bib gourmand that has a tasting menu for frick'n €50!! Hiro started with the calamari that instantly gave me that Ratatouille moment when Anton Ego flashbacks to his mama's cooking, comforting like only home cooking can soothe you during a rainy day.. Does my mama cook Napoli style calamari you ask? No. But somehow the intense flavor of the precious baby squid reminded me so much of my mom's squid adobo!! Next Hiro had the homemade pasta with clams and muscles.. Yaaaaaass al dente carbs and fresh seafood!' 3rd course was his lamb chops and potatoes which if you didn't tell me I was eating lamb I would have never known.. This lamb leaves your palette SO clean and it was barely seasoned with anything, like salt, pepper and garlic that I could taste.. and it came with amazing potatoes! For dessert Hiro had the black Forrest with dried cherries.. Did I mention these were all full servings?! Isn't a tasting menu normally super small portions? Wow they are generous here!!! Omg. You guys. I forgot to mention that his tasting menu came with a bottle of wine. Hiro got 4 full sized serving courses plus an entire bottle of wine for €50. How do they stay in business?!
Ok and then me.. I didn't want to order the €40, €45 or €50 tasting menu I wanted to make my own!! I had the Napoli style aubergine: amazing! How do they stuff so much mozzarella between the eggplant but hold the grease? Glorious. And then I has the ricotta ravioli and clams in a lemon sauce hooooomg the ravioli tasted like dessert.. and of everywhere I've eaten in Italy/ Croatia this trip this was the first meal I've had when not one of my clams didn't have sand in it.. thank you for cleaning them properly!! For dessert I had the lemon cake (like a lemon cream puff) and it was absolutely perfectly light and refreshing
Not only was the food outstanding but the feels in that restaurant!! There was a fantastic musician/ singer who sang everything from the 3 Tenors to Ed Sheeran and killed it! And then! Ok I've only met a handful of executive chefs in my life bc they're never to be seen!! They're always busy dictating the behind the scenes but Mimmo was everywhere. He was going back and forth from the kitchen, he was running food to tables, he was busing tables, he was STANDING ON TOP OF TABLES (or a chair) playing the tambourine and loudly singing along with the musician.. he got almost every girl in the restaurant to come to the front and dance with him!! (I got pulled into the conga YMCA line by another girl lol).. Anyway and!! He rings everyone out.. i think it's his way of doing quality control so he can speak to you directly, ask how everything was, where are you from, how do you like Sorrento.. There was a tour group there that rolled maybe like 30 ppl deep at least and he shook hands or kissed cheeks with EVERY ONE OF THEM.. I've never in my life seen a more gregarious man at his work.. Like I felt like I was eating at his house and he throwing a party and entertaining us, his guests.. Omg. And!! I know a lot of places say they are a family restaurant but his whole family was literally there!! Including his I think he told us 71 yo Mama and 74 yo papa who were like his sous'!! And his wife was running food.. And I saw his young son too behind the counter.. Not very many ppl, me included could stand to work with their family and go home with their family and just be around them 24/7 but these guys genuinely looked like they were having the BEST time!! I kept looking back and Mama and Papa behind the kitchen counter and it looked like they were getting the biggest kick out of watching their son do what he does lol what a special family! Can you adopt me?! I can wash dishes. Lol
Lastly, I would just like to add (bc you know this review is like so short) I NEVER GIVE 5 STARS TO RESTAURANTS (only yelp elite events when I used to go).. I feel kind of obnoxious that the first time I do do it is away from my hometown of SD or my current town of LA but I had to.. it deserved it..the only thing that I could possibly dock off for is the fact that my order got messed up (my server was very adamant that I ordered veal chops but I don't eat veal lol and I'm practically a pescatarian and I 100% didn't order it) but I was about to take it and pay for it and not eat it lol bc I felt bad but she was like "you don't want anymore ok" and took it back and no one was upset about it!! The servers were all so friendly and funny! In the years to come whenever I think of Sorrento I'm going to think of the memories here and dream of the next time I can come back.. Thanks for a lovely evening! And please don't ever change except for maybe upgrading to a star bc y'all deserve it!!
