Searched for someplace local to have breakfast and found this little place in downtown Alexandria. Attached to a drugstore, the restaurant is likely to have been there forever. The decor reflects that.
The menu is standard for breakfast with eggs, breakfast meats, omelets, grits, hash browns, and pancakes. The western omelet was good, eggs over-easy cooked to order, and the grits done well. Nothing spectacular, just good breakfast food. The biscuits are good, light and flaky.
The pancakes are very sweet and mostly dry. You need syrup to moisten them but that just makes them cloyingly sweet. They are almost inedible.
Cheese grits are nothing more than a bowl of grits with a slice of sandwich cheese set on top. Truth in advertising but nothing special.
The staff couldn't be nicer and service was swift and efficient. I'm glad we searched for a local place but it won't be a do-over. read more
