Facilities are minimal - just a run down room with some mats in an old industrial complex. What you will find is one of the few black belts awarded in America by Rickson Gracie. Rickson was big on the basics, so we try to focus on traditional, fundamental Brazilian jiu jitsu and self defense, not the sport/tournament style. (Not that's there anything wrong with that, it's just a different approach.) I've been training here 6 years now, and we've got a really solid crew built up. As long as you have a good attitude and are willing to put in the effort, the mats are wide open for you. We're also very informal here, no titles, no bowing, lining up in ranks, etc. Respect, definitely, just not through formalities, and I prefer it that way. Lastly, rates are very affordable, lower than any other BJJ school I've seen, plus discounts for doing automatic transfers, and no contracts or fees.

I saw a 10 day set on groupon and swooped it up. Gil is the owner and he is a former boxer himself. This is his gym. It's a down to earth gym but a lot of the times as an adult you get 2:1 or 4:1 time with Gil for the training session. He also works with you if you're feeling weaker. There's a good combination of pushing you and knowing where your limits are. He makes sure I am conditioning my arms with other exercises like the row machine, bench press and more since my arms a little bit weaker. But I rock the jump ropes! Haha. They also have free gloves to wear... of course they are a little bit sweaty from prior use, but then again would you really want to box at a fancy gym? No! You want the grit and you want to realness of this gym.

The coaches--Jordon, Pren, and Billy--are extremely knowledgeable, patient, and genuinely invested in helping everyone improve. Whether they're teaching energetic kids or grown adults who occasionally zone out, they always take the time to make sure everyone learns in a positive environment. One thing that really sets this gym apart is the sense of community. They regularly host BBQs on holidays and special occasions, and anyone who comes by for Friday night open mat is always welcome. I've honestly never trained at a gym that makes sure everyone gets fed after practice, but these guys never let us leave hungry. They also go the extra mile to make the gym comfortable, especially during the summer, with air conditioning and plenty of fans to keep the airflow going. Having the option of a women's program is really nice too. Coach Katie is a seasoned brown belt competitor, and you can see it right away. Our 14-year-old and 10-year-old daughters both train, and watching them grow so quickly in the kids' program has been one of the coolest things to see as a dad. My 14-year-old will even come train with the adults too, which says a lot compared to some of the other gyms we've been to. We also bring our 3-year-old son, and the gym has this gated kids' area that is pretty legit. He's always having his own little party and is chillin while the rest of us are on the mats. It's a small thing, but it makes a huge difference for families with little ones who aren't quite ready to train yet. The talent and the culture here are authentic, which is really important to me. It's a quiet office with a large hallway restroom, complimentary coffee and teas in the waiting room. Being within a Dr's office, it was clean and felt safe and serene. I received the 90 min hot stone massage and opted for the CBD oil add-on. My neck, shoulder and arm pain is something that comes and goes. At its worst, I feel radiating pain and achiness that can continue for several days and disturb my sleep. This time, instead of "enduring" it for several days (and whining to my husband) I booked an appt with Linda. Online booking is super easy and convenient. If you don't know what type of massage you want or need, it's OK! Because Linda will ask you and adjust as needed. When I told her my symptoms, she included some trigger points and stretches! Ahhhhhh She definitely focused on my neck, shoulder and arm (main complaint) but did not forget the rest of my body! ( I didn't realize my lower back and legs were also tight!) The CBD oil did not smell and was a thick oil. She told me not to shower tonight. The only bad thing about CBD oil is that if it gets in your hair, your hair looks super greasy. So bring a hat if you need to go somewhere afterward. Not sure if it was the CBD or the actual massage, but I slept really well and did not wake up multiple times, as I had been doing! My neck and shoulder felt so much better, very loose and I no longer felt the deep radiating ache! I plan to do bi-weekly appts with Linda, as part of my self-care routine!
