Over all I had good experiences but I've had a little frustration with getting quotes on procedures. I always like to know what my cost is, and had a difficult time last year with getting the quoted amount of my co pay fee for my Reclast infusion. It seems the medical insurance industry is broken and out of control, especially with the pharmaceutical companies. Also, tried to use the benefits debit card for over the counter items (have $30 credit to use). Tried to use it at CVS - Excedrin Migraine med and Icy Cold and two prescriptions the total came to $29.55 and the card was declined. Mind you I spoke with customer service about the card the day before and was told I had $30.00 over the counter on approved items (pain relief, etc.) and $6.00 for prescriptions. It only approved the $4.00 for prescriptions and declined the rest. I love my doctor, Dr. Thyssen, she is amazing she listening carefully, giving me the time to explain my issue and concerns. I never feel rushed when I go to her, she has the best bed-sidemanners, professional presence and is so personable. This 5 Star review I want to state is ONLY for Angela in customer service. An "Engagement" as they are called, called me a couple of months ago and explained to me that I could NOT use my current Carson Tahoe Medical Group as I am REQUIRED to use a Renown doctor. I told her I had been using them since I moved to Carson City in 2016 and they had been paying my bills all this time. She wanted to tell me again, and as she called me and I had been sick for two years I was not going to listen at all. I stated " Not to call me again." A couple of weeks ago I needed to contact them regarding a bill that wasn't being paid. I began speaking to Angela. She actually took the information from my bill and called them as I was on the phone. The bill was never submitted and I was told don't worry about it, I will probably only owe my co-pay, which is all I had to pay. I then brought up about me not using a Renown provider in many years. Angela stated pretty much the same thing as the engagement person who called me, but really was puzzled by why my bills were getting paid even though I was supposed to using a Renown provider. To my surprise and this is where the 5 stars come in, Angela was also bothered by this question when all this time my bill were paying paid. She actually went to her supervisor and found out what they had been telling me was not true. For this young lady to go OVER AND ABOVE what ANYONE in this corporation has EVER done. Was absolutely amazing to me. Now, this is the kind of customer service I grew up with. Companies wanted to keep their customers at any cost. Angela is an EXCEPTIONABLE person to have done this. NO ONE these days that I've run across has ever done this. Angela, I told you then and I'm telling you again, YOU are the kind of person who needs to be working in customer service. You did not need to to this for me, but your heart and mind told you too. You are the type of person I would have promoted quickly in my business and would have never let you go. These guys are all about saving money. They don't give a damn about a person's pain or about relieving it. Their financials are in the tank and their desperation shows in their handling of procedure reviews. Are you in excruciating pain? Too bad. Take a pill. And call someone who gives a damn. If you want lousy service & denied claims that break the law, sign up with Senior Care Plus!!! I went thru breast cancer 5 years ago, did a double mastectomy, followed a year later by reconstruction. That surgery failed & I had to have it re-done. This surgery was denied (which is in violation of the LAW as per cancer) but they denied it anyway. I appealed it 2 levels as per their suggestion as my only alternative. Denied again & now I just get just the run around & buck passing from them to their 3rd party who handles appeals (Maximus). We paid for the surgery out of pocket ($24K) but it had to be done. It is amazing to realize that a Renown backed insurance company would not only be breaking the law by putting a cancer patient thru this trauma!!! Stay away from this overly advertised company. We have since switched insurance companies & things are being covered. Not that this compensates for what Sr. Care Plus & Renown have done, but if I can save someone else this heartache & trauma & let others know what they are like then this post will be worth it!! read more

I am thoroughly disgusted with Senior Care Plus insurance. First they give you a choice of dentists that overcharge you and say you need procedures that are not necessary. I saw my dentist lied on paper and said I complained of pain in my tooth when I actually told her it did not hurt. They told me the root canal and crown would be covered and then said I had to pay 800.00. Second they encourage you to have a comprehensive health exam by offering a 50.00 pre paid card then tell you it will take a month to get it and then when you don't receive it they say 60 days. I am seriously considering changing insurance next year. read more

I have been a Sr Care Plus member for 2 years. I have received wonderful care from my Primary in Sparks in fact I believe she saved my life, when she sent me for blood tests and discovered I had Sepsis even though I thought I was run down. MyChart is an excellent tool and if I have a question for my Primary, need a prescription refill or am curious about test results I usually have an answer within 24 hours. I have the Sr Care Preferred Plan and I could never remember they offer a free gym membership. (I started taking Zumba classes a couple of months ago and I love the way I feel during and after class.) Sr Care Plus has been the best Medicare Advantage Plan for me. read more

Live in Reno, not SF. Senior Care Plus sent prepay card in January that is supposed to be loaded with $25 each quarter for non-prescription health care purchases. But no Walgreens accepts it (for basic items like Advil, COVID test kits or first aid supplies). Amazon says I have no balance on it. When I call about the balance or using the card I'm told I have a balance, just check the Senior Care Plus/Nations Benefits website. But the website says my card number doesn't exist. So the card isn't just useless, it has the added feature of wasting people's time. I'll cut it up and mail it back to SC Plus, not that they give a damn. Call nation's benefits is their standard answer and with those folks, the lights are on, but no one is home. read more

I am a S.C.Plus member. When I signed up the agent said S.C.Plus did not require a Referral to see a specialist. I have found that to be either an error or a lie. I challenge you to contact ANY Specialist in Washoe Co. to get an appointment. They will ALL say they need a referral regardless of membership with Senior Care Plus. So, S. C. Plus needs to stop lying or get there act together. read more

October 29, 2020 Re: Senior Care Plus, Reno, NV PAGE 2 of 4 charges were authorized. I had the procedure and Senior Care Sucks denied the claim. This occurred over and over again. The hospital kept records of the telephone call reference numbers, and I kept records of the conversations and pre-approvals and the names of the SCP representatives who had approved the services. Nonetheless, ALL were later denied for payment after having been approved. I felt betrayed. I'm not sophisticated in the ways of medical insurance companies or plans, but I absolutely could not comprehend why SCP representatives were permitted to LIE by giving an authorization or approving a procedure which the company would then refuse to pay. If I had been told that the services were not covered, I would not have proceeded to have them. Due to their deliberate and repeated lies, I personally incurred thousands of dollars in medical bills. When I first called Senior Care Sucks to protest these denials, and told them of the phone calls and authorizations that had occurred, they said there was no record of any such calls, even though I had the date of the call and the name of the service representative. But when I responded with the call reference numbers, there was confusion on the line, and then the story changed. Then Senior Care Sucks told me that all of those approvals had been "mis-quotes." Despite those pre-authorization calls having been made on different dates, and involving different customer service representatives, they were all mis-quotes? I called them lies. Of course I appealed their decision. I also canceled a pending surgery (which had been pre-approved -- ha!) and no longer visited any medical providers except by going through an emergency room, which I had to do twice, unfortunately, even in order to get a prescription. Following my first appeal, SCP agreed to cover and subsequently paid for some of the services. I paid some of the bills myself. Then, when more bills arrived, I appealed again. SCP said that I was beyond the 60-day filing time frame for appealing. So I then had to request a good cause extension. I was still filing appeals and appeals of appeals in December 2019 and even into 2020. The process of trying to entangle a medical mess that occurred over a 4-month period with SCP took more a year and a half. I also called them several times in July of 2019 to ask if any bills incurred by me had been denied, so that I could follow up on their status. I was told that there were no outstanding invoices. But a few weeks later, it turned out that there were at least three (3) bills that had not been processed. I had to ask the hospital to re-submit the bills to SCP. When I called SCP again in August 2019, I was told that there were actually five (5) bills outstanding. PAGE 3 of 4 Which brings me to another point, the level of disorganization within Senior Care Sucks. 1. They are disorganized. The left hand doesn't seem to know what the right hand is doing. I seldom spoke to the same person twice. Representatives with whom I spoke at Senior Care Plus include Maria (who was polite), Gaby (who was polite), Cathie, Tobias, Adam, Nicki, Tawny, Bettina, Lupe, Jordan, Jason, Sam, Karen, Alyssa, Debbie, and I don't remember who else. There is no sense of continuity when you call them or visit them on Professional Circle. I received different answers at different times. As my husband was also a member of Senior Care Plus, we sought to have me listed on his membership as one who was permitted to access his medical records. This actually never occurred, although we requested it multiple times (maybe 5 times) over a three (3) year period. We initially asked this over the telephone. We were told we would need to download and fill out a HIPAA form. We did that in December of 2019 and mailed it as directed. The request was denied, because I had written "Same" for my address, beneath my husband's address. We filled out the form again on January 12, 2020, and mailed it, with no result. We did it again on March 20, 2020, and put a sticky note on it that said "Third Request." We also attached copies of our previous two requests. Eventually we mailed it AND faxed it AND hand delivered it to Professional Circle. Nothing. We tried again on May 17, 2020, then in August 2020, and then gave up. Which brings me to another point, they seem to go out of their way to make something simple as difficult as possible. 2. At Senior Care Sucks there are hoops within hoops. I called SCP in September 2020 to ask where my husband could go to get a flu shot. I was told to go to CVS. I explained to the representative that we had tried twice at CVS, and they were out. I was told that he should visit his primary care physician at Renown. I explained to the representative that he had been to his doctor at Renown on September 17, 2020, and requested the flu shot, but was told the read more

My late husband was covered by Senior Care Plus. He received a year of chemotherapy and our total out of pocket expense was $3,000. When I turned 65, I signed up for Senior Care Plus. Have been with it for 7 years and I couldn't be happier with the medical coverage. Prescription coverage is very, very reasonable. I make appointments with specialists all the time without a referral. I have never had an issue. If I have questions, they are quick to respond. I don't know about those other reviews because that certainly hasn't been my experience over the last 7 years. The only issue I have is the dental coverage that's available. The annual premium is more than the annual benefit. But my medical premium is so reasonable I can afford to pay for my dental. Highly recommend Senior Care Plus. read more

I am a member of Senior Care plus. I have found that with any plan, their can be some challenges. Most of the time it is my lack of Knowledge or persistence. I feel for Charles. It can be difficult, and it should not be. I have found if you ask the receptionist in the specialists office to call senior care plus to verify if you need a referral, that's all it takes. But if the receptionist is lazy, or lacks the knowledge to do so, you need to insist they call for verification, It's their job. I have come across this problem a few times, and I have always persuaded the receptionist to make a call to senior care. Sometimes it takes a little more work on our part, and it is very trying when we don't feel well. It really bothers me when a receptionist will not take the time to investigate the patients insurance plan. Its good service to do so. I suggest, asking the specialist office to call senior care plus to confirm your coverage before telling you a referral is needed. Its the receptionists lack of knowledge. If they wont, senior care plus will help you by calling the specialists office. Its not your insurance company's fault, they have always helped me resolve any problems.
