They mismanaged my escrow and now I have to pay a huge bill or my monthly payment goes up $200. My mortgage was bought out by Seneca. Not much choice for me, but that's how the mortgage servicing works - ick! It's been 3 months now (Dec 2014) and I've been on the phone with them every month since they took it over. They don't really seem to know what they're doing - or at the very best, they are taking a long time to get my account in order so that it's correct and up-to-date. Please do not get your mortgage through them. Unfortuanlly my mortgage was sold to them by my bank and I am stuck. There will try to charge you extra fees, they do not work with you at all trying to resolve any issues related to your payment. They changed my mortgage payment and it been over 2 months now since i been calling & emailing them trying to resolve this issue. Horrible customer service. Reading a lot of these reviews, I guess I'm not alone. They didn't pay my state/county taxes so I had to call up customer service and tell them. They also don't return phone calls. I was having my loan refinanced with another company. The payoff was short so they needed more money. They called me. I tried calling them but did not get through. I left message and got no return phone call. Finally I was able to get in touch with them only after I had accumulated many days of per Diem interest. They denied my request to be reimbursed the interest even though they never returned my phone calls. Will never deal with this company again. Beware. read more

These people are managing hundreds of thousands of your dollars. That's scary. They have mismanaged my escrow. They do no respond to customer messages through their own website. When you call to fix your escrow account that they have mismanaged, they dismissively tell you it's not their problem. They have policies that actually keep them from accurately managing escrow. Look at the other reviews. The fact that a company like this can do their business so horribly and yet remain in business and seemingly profitable is a testament to why the mortgage industry collapsed. read more

Awful company. Same story as everyone else. They purchased my current mortgage and screwed up the account. Didn't pay my taxes for an entire quarter. I kept forwarding them late notices from my city's tax collector. I called every week for 8 (EIGHT) weeks and file a BBB complaint till it finally was paid. I don't understand why they felt it was acceptable to pay taxes 2 months late, but if I didn't pay my mortgage for 2 months, wonder how they would react? read more

Long story short, they will destroy your credit, lie to you, and send you from one rep to the next. I've tried working with Jim Mikoley, their ASSISTANT VICE PRESIDENT of asset management thinking, finally, someone who can make things happen! NOPE!! He flat out lied to me..in writing! GARBAGE, that's the only word I can think of to use to describe Seneca Mortgage. I have been trying to get a hold of my loan specialist for 3 months now. This last time I called the customer service rep told me that his line was disconnected. hmm, I asked if he still worked for the company, she said yes but that she couldn't get a hold of him. WEIRD! Every time I call requesting to Eric Larson, they say he's not available, customer service reps give me different answers to my questions. They are the worst company I have ever spoken to. So I called their customer service to see how should I set up my direct draft payment. OMG, I was on hold for 30mins + finally I have to hung up the phone since I have other businesses to attend to. After reading their review on Yelp, I have a feeling that I will have to keep calling this crappy company and have many more headaches with them. BAD BAD Mortgage Company. Our Loan got sold too, before it even closed Escrow. We have dealt with starting the new relationship with a Mortgage Co before. Been with them for about 2 years, give or take. But this Seneca Mortgage Co....AVOID at all costs....they really suck. Have and will be fighting this problem: Sent the Oct payt Oct 5th,2015. Oct 16th I take a "Out of State" Call (our phone shows who calls) I ALMOST ALWAYS HANG UP ON NO NAME CALLS...ROBO CALLS as most of them are. That Out of State I took....Seneca Mortgage cannot even be Proud of their phone number....go figure. So I find out that the Oct Payment had not been received. OMG...I will talk to my Husband, and find out about this and will contact you back. OK. So He sent the payt Oct 5, Yes we have the proof. Not received. We go over the Address in TEXAS where the payt is sent...CORRECT. OK where is the payt then?? Seneca doesn't know, and now we have a Late Fee. Bank is researching the payt. A few days later Bank contacts us and tells us the Payt was returned, as UNDELIVERABLE to the same address that we have been sending the payt, and the same place that has been crediting the payt to our account.....WHAT THE HELL....Talk again to Seneca. Sending out the payt when the Bank Shows it is back in our account. Upon several conversations with different Seneca Servicing people...and receiving different and mixed messages we were assured this would not be a Credit Score DING, as we were working to get this resolved. AS of yesterday (and the Account is current...) Hubby gets a notice that his Credit Score has changed, from a quite high to POOR...WHAT THE ......!!!!!!!!!! SO THE FIGHT BEGINS....Seneca said QUOTE " There was a $32.00 Fee that was not paid so that is why we dinged your Credit Score". Believe me if we had known about the $32.00 FEE we certainly would have paid it. NO NOTICE, NO TELLING US in the 5-6 phone calls back and forth. ....JUST DING THE CREDIT SCORE....to POOR...REALLY SENECA....you f..king SUCK so do your employees. Feb 23, 2016 EDITING: Ok so yesterday Seneca sent us a notice that they had updated our Credit Bureau to a Current for October 2015...REALLY...It was Current according to Seneca as of Nov 2015 when you finally took the payment. So here we are again with Seneca ....Holding onto the payment in Texas way too long...and not CREDITING the Account until AFTER the Late Fee can be placed on the Account....January 2016 Payment sent out Jan 5th 2016, and not Credited until Jan 21st, 2016...Our Bank has been working with us on this...and they are very Frustrated with Seneca Mortgage and feel it is Very Bad Business. Today I was on the phone with the Bank as they called to let us know they are REFUNDING the Late Fee Charged to us by Seneca....OK that is fantastic...but the Point is that SENECA Needs to REFUND the Unlawfully Charged Late Fee not our Bank. I am glad we have a great banking institution...Kudos to them for that. The point here is that we send out our payment between the 2nd and the 5th of the Month....Seneca is NOT HOOKED UP TO THE ONLINE BANKING SYSTEM TO RECEIVE THE PAYMENTS IN THE 2-3 DAYS ALL THE OTHER COMPANIES ARE....this is the MAJOR Problem with Seneca. A online banking check is like a personal check being sent snail mail and has to be handled like a personal check. WE do NOT TRUST Seneca Mortgage to take out the payment each month from our checking account....NO ONE SHOULD. THIS is not a Good Reputable Company. We still are trying to get the Credit Bureau thing straightened out...Only God knows EDITED Jan 21,2017...OUR PRAYERS were answered and our loan Sold to another company that seems so far to be OK. My mortgage was bought by this company. It is terrible. My last wait time was 45 minutes. When someone finally answered, I got yelled at for not having my account number ready. I'm sorry for wasting your time. They send me a letter the other day that I didn't make my last payment. I did send it on time with an additional 10% of my total loan towards the principal. When I called them, they said not to get upset because everything is in order.??? I was trying to get my PMI removed. I was advised that I need to write a formal request because they need to get approval from the investors. My loan is payed off 50%. Why would I pay PMI. I'm very close from refinancing with a real bank even if it costs me money up front. Do yourself a favor and stay away. read more

Completely incompetent company. As other reviews stated they do not know what they are doing and customer service is not helpful. On top of all that, these morons received a tax check from us to pay our city (we pay taxes via their escrow account) and we get a notice 6 weeks later from the city because its not paid. We call Seneca and they don't have a clue. They track it down and find out they just sat on the check and have no idea why it wasn't paid. They are rude and don't know what they're doing. Also would post 0 stars if possible. If you can avoid this company, do. My taxes were not paid even though my statement says they were pain 3 months ago. I got a letter from the sheriff's office saying I owe $138.60 in late fees and that it will be turned over to a "third party" in 6 weeks. This happened last year with my insurance not getting paid. The employees are nice on the phone, but whoever is running things in completely incompetent. I'm just hoping I can get this resolved and not have to pay the taxes myself after putting plenty of money in escrow. Last year I had to pay the insurance myself before it got canceled and months later got a refund from Seneca. This company has serious problems. I would give 0 if it were an option. I have filed a complaint with ConsumerFinancialProtection.gov due to their predatory actions. I have owned my home over 16 years without a missed payment. Seneca bought my mortgage about a year ago and I have never received a statement from them, I didn't even know who they were until my original mortgage company returned my payment and told me about them (I had electronic statements with the other bank and the communication went to my bank but bypassed me all together). Earlier this year they supposedly raised my payment (fixed loan) due to mismanaged escrow account (sound familiar anyone?). Well they never told me (I don't have electronic delivery with Seneca because I don't trust them). I continued to pay my normal payment on time. Well, on March 14, they send me a letter (surprised as I was since they've never managed to deliver a letter to my home before). The letter said I was late for my March payment. I had proof of payment so I emailed them to get this corrected. After 5 weeks of back and forth (mostly on my part since they fail to respond timely) I learn about the escrow thing and while I have yet to receive a notice of the change, I sent a payment to ensure I wasn't reported negatively on the credit bureaus. Well, low and behold I went to buy a car over the weekend and was denied a loan (despite excellent credit history) because I was reported late for the April payment. This was totally infuriating! I had to take the day off work on Tuesday since Seneca has limited hours, which falls during my business hours. After phone tree HELL I tricked the system and reached a live person. (Press 4, then 0 on the call tree). I am an executive at a contact center so I get how it works, and will pass that nugget to you. Anyways, I reached a poorly trained parrot (not her fault, this just shows how awful her leadership is) by the name of Patricia. Patricia said that she is a member of the president's response team and assured she could help or would transfer me to a VP. After the most disgusting display of poor customer service (more than an hour on the phone mind you) Patricia refused to transfer me to management. She repeatedly numerous times that management would not allow her to transfer to them, basically they were refusing to speak to a customer. Basically, contact center executive suicide, when that executive leads at a creditable organization. However, they are NOT a creditable organization so this appears standard operating procedure at Seneca! Patricia became directly insulting, again, a product of her training. She had the nerve to tell me she felt "sorry" for me because I "allowed" myself to be upset over their poor service! I ultimately hung up on her (something I would not normally do but I tired of her unhelpful droning) but it was without a doubt the most frustrating call I've had. Moral of the story? Think twice before borrowing from Seneca. If your loan is sold to them? REFINANCE FAST! You'll want to get away from them before they can damage your credit. read more

Their customer service has been pathetic and now they are saying they were never paid, dinging my credit rating. The worst. I have had mortgages with 3 different companies and never have I had the problems I have had with Seneca. What's worse is that they bought my mortgage just 2 months ago and I've been on the phone with them at least once a week since. They failed to send my windstorm insurance payment, insisting that it wasn't escrowed, but somehow managed to send me a "refund" check for the same amount as my windstorm insurance. Luckily I was able to pay my insurance out of my own pocket while waiting to receive my "refund". I can't wait to see what they do with my tax money! read more

Whatever you do, DO NOT DO BUSINESS WITH THESE UNETHICAL PEOPLE! Several letters I have received from them appear to be nothing short of an attempt at extortion. My mortgage was sold to Seneca by another institution and I've had nothing but trouble with them. They never asked for proof of personal homeowners insurance (the exterior of my home is covered by an HOA policy), and then without any warning or request on their part, I received a threatening (to say the least) letter from them saying that their records "showed that my insurance has expired" and that "we plan to buy insurance for your property". They further stated in their letter that "the insurance may be more expensive than the insurance you can buy for yourself" and that it "may not provide as much coverage"!!! This is preposterous. I've had the same insurance company for the past ten years and their records clearly show there has NEVER been a lapse in my policy and that my policy has NEVER "expired'. I called the California State Bureau of Consumer Affairs to discuss this matter with a counselor and was told that this, unfortunately, is a common scam perpetrated by unscrupulous mortgage servicing companies, and that it is an attempt to extort money from inexperienced or unsuspecting mortgagees. The idea is that they will use the "excuse" that they had to buy insurance for you to raise your monthly payment! I admit to being shocked. I felt it only fair to warn potential customers of Seneca Mortgage of the pitfalls and dangers of doing business with this company. Please think twice and do some research before you consider doing business with this company. read more

Refinanced with Loan Depot in 2014 and they sold the loan to Seneca. Nothing but problems from the very beginning. First they would not speak with me as the loan is in my husband's name. Fine I faxed authorization. They claimed never received. Faxed again. Never received. Faxed again, never received. etc etc. Finally received after 6 faxes. Today I am reviewing my credit report and Seneca is reporting this as a joint account. Called Seneca they refuse to speak with me because I am not authorized.... They are the MOST incompetent outfit I have ever encountered. read more

We have had our mortage on automatic payment since we opened it. This company bought our loan and has been nothing but trouble. We had flood insurance, they bought flood insurance and charged us. We showed them we had flood insurance. They promised to take late payment off of our record. I have never had a late payment in my life. Well their departments don't talk to each other. Seneca Mortgage Serving barely rates one star. Their phone messaging system keeps you away from any humans. And if you do reach one, the service is terrible. I just had an uninformed, impolite conversation that was too frustrating to even be called "service." I have set up auto pay and it works fine, but if something goes wrong and you need help, you are in for a bad experience. Unfortunately, my mortgage was also sold to this company. I had no say in the matter and was simply notified of it. It has been horrible ever since. I used to have the option of making bi-monthly payments with my old company which results in major savings over the course of the loan. I have spoken to at least 4 customer service reps at Seneca trying to get information about setting this up and have received 4 different responses. All ultimately leading to NO bi-monthly payments. I have never encountered such rude and poorly trained customer service representatives. I had to explain to one what an escrow account was for. I don't blame them necessarily because I think it is their upper management that is to blame. They must have to field calls all day from very angry customers and they've probably had enough. Every single time I try to log into my account online, I get a message saying my account has been locked. Guess what this means...You have to call dreaded customer service again. Now there is no way for me to get in contact with an actual human being when my account is closed.
