The entrance is a bit hidden in the backyard. The restaurant you will find underground. Go down and get surprised.

Today it has been the first time at Pagana after I read so much about the restaurant. To find the restaurant is quite an adventure if you walk there and you never have been in this area. Thanks to Yelp navigation all went well. Going down the stairs, knew it's in underground and stepped down. I was surprised ... No muddy smell like typical for a lot of places in Prague when they're undergo und. Not at all! All is very clean, dry and nice decorated. The waiter was very polite and device overall good. The menu card is small but not too small staring with Italian appetizers, versions of pasta, meat and fish. Also the wine list is not too big and you will find some wine quick. The food was good I would say. Not excellent but very good / good. The scallopina al limone could get more lemon and the potato more salt. The polpo alla grilla was a big arm and the sauce matching the taste of the octopus. The mouse was tasting to heavily and something more light and fresh would underline the grilled taste better. The wine Gavi di Gavi was very tasty and matched the meals. We had no dessert. But the offers looked interesting. Madam Pagana, the boss and owner, is a very nice person with great sense of humor. She speaks Czech, German, English and Italian as the waiter. Finally we have been the last guest together with the waiter and went home with big smile.

The best service I've ever received in a restaurant. The staff is so friendly I wanted to eat there everyday! It's a bit hidden on the street underground in a building. It's a family owned restaurant and we were welcomed by Santiago, the owner's son. He was extremely friendly and explained us the whole menu. I was with a friend who had some allergies and Santiago was prompt to take notes, talk with the chef and give suggestions on replacing some features of the dish so nothing would harm him. The New Year menu (I post a pic of it here) consisted of: A marinated salmon as amuse-bouche; tuna tartare, truffle risotto, a lemon sorbet, veal or fish and 1000 leaves with mascarpone and raspberries as dessert. All that with an outstanding wine pairing made by Santiago himself. The whole meal was a taste of paradise. Breath-taking food, delicious wines and warm family-like service. Before the actually dining room there's a little hall where smoking is allowed. After 22h cigars are also allowed there. If you are a non-smoker don't worry, as a non-smoker myself I wasn't at all bothered by that, there were very few people smoking (maybe 2 at a time). I can say that it was the best dining experience I've ever had. I recommend this place to everyone!

Walked in and was told there weren't any spaces so we made a reservation for the next night. Very pleasant experience, possibly one of the best service I've ever received. Food was superb and fresh, parmasean, ham and melon starter was a great start, homemade bread was amazing, shrimp and cream of garlic soup was superb, and mains (sirloin and potato layers, truffle ravioli, and sirloin rigatoni) were unforgettable. Desserts (chocolate cake, prosecco sorbet, panna cotta) were heaven and the ambience was very pleasant. Would definitely recommend but remember to make reservations in advance! Worth every penny

Table side pasta house special.

There is a reason why this family-owned Italian restaurant is #1 among all restaurants in Prague on TripAdvisor! It simply is amazing - food and service. The house specialty of spaghetti cooked in white whine sauce table side and then tossed inside the cheese block of Parmesan and Regiano is to die for.

Having a fun and tasty first night in Prague

It can be difficult to rank restaurants against one another but we had such fine meals and good time at this family run, Prague Italian restaurant, that it's going to hard to top it on this 2-week jaunt through Eastern Europe. Santos and his artist mother run the place like a family restaurant should be run, with excellent cuisine at reasonable prices and with some panache to boot. Not hard to rank this very high among our global favorites.

The waitress was friendly, attentive and kind to the eyes while the couple a few feet away enjoyed their wide selection of wines and aperitifs. (I told them I was proud of their public display of joy!) My italian friends from Florida remarked on the traditional ambiance and downright homey feel of the place. Make a reservation, as the place filled on a Monday. Then, dig in, and dig it yourselves!

So we came again to satisfy his cravings. We ordered the Margherita pizza to share as our appetizer and only finished half but it was soooo good. Simple and delicious with fresh basil leaves garnish. Something unusual happened on this evening . There was a power outage for a while but I need to say... the staff handled it very smoothly , assuring diners that things will be ok soon. They were calm. We were more than confident , staying put and enjoying ourselves. Dishes came out quickly . There were LED lights on the table already and so we didn't skip a beat. Great place all around! We will be back!

The sauce seemed to have been made from a can (1 star off) as the diced tomatoes tasted different than the whole tomatoes that were added to the dish later; the whole tomatoes tasted way better. My husband got the pinsa alla diavola, which was like a spicy pepperoni pizza. It was fine, but reminded me of a pizza at a kids' birthday party (1 star off), maybe only slightly better. I made a reservation a month in advance, but did not know I had to specifically request for tables outside on the river. When we arrived, only a few outdoor tables were taken, but was told the rest were reserved, so we were seated indoors instead. When we finished our dinner, the same few outdoor tables were occupied. I don't know why the restaurant couldn't just stagger the guests for the outdoor tables according to their reservation times.

It was my second visit to Prague so I was taking my time to see more than the "must see things." As I said, I stumbled onto the restaurant because I was taking in the park where artists were painting, people were reading and I pulled out my phone to use the Merlin app to identify birds that were singing. It was totally picturesque. But I wasn't hungry. So I regretfully moved on without eating there. Imagine the elation a few days later when someone in our group booked a dinner reservation for us at the same place I was regretting having missed! With a group of a dozen of us, I think someone ordered everything on the menu. We were all thrilled. We had appetizers , cocktails and entrees -- everything we had was great! The restaurant is family-owned and we were treated to the son being a primary server for our group. Now and then dad was part of the picture too and we enjoyed the added dynamic. Pretty sure the son is on point for Americans as his English was on point. They were great hosts!
