The entrance is a bit hidden in the backyard. The restaurant you will find underground. Go down and get surprised.

Today it has been the first time at Pagana after I read so much about the restaurant. To find the restaurant is quite an adventure if you walk there and you never have been in this area. Thanks to Yelp navigation all went well. Going down the stairs, knew it's in underground and stepped down. I was surprised ... No muddy smell like typical for a lot of places in Prague when they're undergo und. Not at all! All is very clean, dry and nice decorated. The waiter was very polite and device overall good. The menu card is small but not too small staring with Italian appetizers, versions of pasta, meat and fish. Also the wine list is not too big and you will find some wine quick. The food was good I would say. Not excellent but very good / good. The scallopina al limone could get more lemon and the potato more salt. The polpo alla grilla was a big arm and the sauce matching the taste of the octopus. The mouse was tasting to heavily and something more light and fresh would underline the grilled taste better. The wine Gavi di Gavi was very tasty and matched the meals. We had no dessert. But the offers looked interesting. Madam Pagana, the boss and owner, is a very nice person with great sense of humor. She speaks Czech, German, English and Italian as the waiter. Finally we have been the last guest together with the waiter and went home with big smile.

The best service I've ever received in a restaurant. The staff is so friendly I wanted to eat there everyday! It's a bit hidden on the street underground in a building. It's a family owned restaurant and we were welcomed by Santiago, the owner's son. He was extremely friendly and explained us the whole menu. I was with a friend who had some allergies and Santiago was prompt to take notes, talk with the chef and give suggestions on replacing some features of the dish so nothing would harm him. The New Year menu (I post a pic of it here) consisted of: A marinated salmon as amuse-bouche; tuna tartare, truffle risotto, a lemon sorbet, veal or fish and 1000 leaves with mascarpone and raspberries as dessert. All that with an outstanding wine pairing made by Santiago himself. The whole meal was a taste of paradise. Breath-taking food, delicious wines and warm family-like service. Before the actually dining room there's a little hall where smoking is allowed. After 22h cigars are also allowed there. If you are a non-smoker don't worry, as a non-smoker myself I wasn't at all bothered by that, there were very few people smoking (maybe 2 at a time). I can say that it was the best dining experience I've ever had. I recommend this place to everyone!

Walked in and was told there weren't any spaces so we made a reservation for the next night. Very pleasant experience, possibly one of the best service I've ever received. Food was superb and fresh, parmasean, ham and melon starter was a great start, homemade bread was amazing, shrimp and cream of garlic soup was superb, and mains (sirloin and potato layers, truffle ravioli, and sirloin rigatoni) were unforgettable. Desserts (chocolate cake, prosecco sorbet, panna cotta) were heaven and the ambience was very pleasant. Would definitely recommend but remember to make reservations in advance! Worth every penny

There is a reason why this family-owned Italian restaurant is #1 among all restaurants in Prague on TripAdvisor! It simply is amazing - food and service. The house specialty of spaghetti cooked in white whine sauce table side and then tossed inside the cheese block of Parmesan and Regiano is to die for.

Having a fun and tasty first night in Prague

It can be difficult to rank restaurants against one another but we had such fine meals and good time at this family run, Prague Italian restaurant, that it's going to hard to top it on this 2-week jaunt through Eastern Europe. Santos and his artist mother run the place like a family restaurant should be run, with excellent cuisine at reasonable prices and with some panache to boot. Not hard to rank this very high among our global favorites.

No signs yelling for your attention. Just a quiet confidence. Like it knew it was worth your time. You walk in and are met with fresh seafood. A variety of fish, shrimp, and other sea bugs. Some with eyes staring directly into your soul. The kind of display that makes you pause and say, "Right then, let's get weird." Anytime I'm with my brother, you know the one. Tastebuds of a 10-year-old but the wallet of a CEO. He's a hard guy to impress. He'll spend 80 quid on a plate and still ask if they have chicken tenders. He says things like "complex flavor profile" then washes it down with a Diet Coke. I only managed a photo of the scallop before it disappeared into my stomach. Cooked to perfection. Sweet glaze on top. Delicate. Balanced. Honestly one of the better things I ate on the entire trip. What stood out most was the chef's style. No two plates looked the same. Each one had its own story. You could tell someone cared back there. After I cleaned my plate, the waitress came over. She had a mouth on her that would make a sailor blush, but somehow it worked. She gave my brother a hard time for not finishing his shrimp. Proper dressing down. Someone had to say it. I admired her for holding us traveling lads to a local standard. Bit pricey, sure. But you're not at some tourist trap. You're eating seafood hand-picked by Neptune himself. As they say, when in Rome. Or in this case, Prague.

This is a very nice classy place (I honestly felt slightly underdressed in my touristy best). But they welcomed us openly and seated us immediately. We found the staff to be super helpful, taking our coats, answering our questions and pouring us countless glasses of water (we were super thirsty). We started with oysters, which are shucked immediately and perfectly prepared. I mean like expert shucking here. And the oysters themselves were from all areas around the Mediterranean and were both larger than the ones we typically get here in the states and really complex in flavor. We were basically in oyster heaven. We took the suggestion of our server and ordered a kind of sampler to start, then we ordered a few more of our favorites. The oysters were perfectly presented with a trio of sauces. We don't know what was in the green one but we really REALLY liked it. We also kind of sort of accidentally ordered this huge lobster grill platter. Our waiter, who was great, didn't speak super English. I was asking him which platter he liked the best and he said the lobster. My husband wanted the shrimp and I thought we ordered the shrimp. I then watched the chef make this incredible lobster platter on ice and was just really admiring the attention to detail... and then they brought it to our table! Whoops. Well I wasn't going to send it back. We ate it and did not regret it at all. Also, can I just pause for a second to talk about the bread and butter that is served here? There are two oyster shell halves cleaned out and filled with butter and one of them is full of butter laced with black caviar. Just shut up. I ate all of the bread so I could eat all of the caviar. Man. So great. And in the end the bill was quite reasonable, especially when compared to what we'd pay for a similar feast at home. It was so good we seriously considered going back a second time but we ran out of time. Next time we're in Prague, though, this will be very high on the list for a re-visit.

It was my second visit to Prague so I was taking my time to see more than the "must see things." As I said, I stumbled onto the restaurant because I was taking in the park where artists were painting, people were reading and I pulled out my phone to use the Merlin app to identify birds that were singing. It was totally picturesque. But I wasn't hungry. So I regretfully moved on without eating there. Imagine the elation a few days later when someone in our group booked a dinner reservation for us at the same place I was regretting having missed! With a group of a dozen of us, I think someone ordered everything on the menu. We were all thrilled. We had appetizers , cocktails and entrees -- everything we had was great! The restaurant is family-owned and we were treated to the son being a primary server for our group. Now and then dad was part of the picture too and we enjoyed the added dynamic. Pretty sure the son is on point for Americans as his English was on point. They were great hosts!

The sauce seemed to have been made from a can (1 star off) as the diced tomatoes tasted different than the whole tomatoes that were added to the dish later; the whole tomatoes tasted way better. My husband got the pinsa alla diavola, which was like a spicy pepperoni pizza. It was fine, but reminded me of a pizza at a kids' birthday party (1 star off), maybe only slightly better. I made a reservation a month in advance, but did not know I had to specifically request for tables outside on the river. When we arrived, only a few outdoor tables were taken, but was told the rest were reserved, so we were seated indoors instead. When we finished our dinner, the same few outdoor tables were occupied. I don't know why the restaurant couldn't just stagger the guests for the outdoor tables according to their reservation times.
