My son (13 years old) attended this school for the last 7 years and excelled every step of the way…read moreearning his invitation to the weapons class and the "master's" class at the earliest allowed ranks. He was invited to become an assistant instructor early on and was even allowed to teach the younger student classes on his own early on. After he proved able to teach the younger kids class he was asked to assist older classes and eventually was allowed to teach those classes on his own. During staffing issues he was relied upon heavily to assist classes at 2 of the 3 locations when needed and rarely was he not able or willing to help. Over the course of his 7 year tenure at Kicking Tigers he made friends and created some strong relationships with other instructors and students which is why we held out for as long as we did before deciding to leave the school. We tolerated the owner discussing finances with the young students in a class setting. We bit our tongues when 20 minute speeches about finances and other inappropriate topics were given as students stood waiting patiently to receive their promotions. Even though most would agree that was a wildly unprofessional, disrespectful and inappropriate time to give such speeches (video evidence of this exists). When we were not told that our son would be promoted in a small back room away from the rest of the school we bit our tongues and chalked it up to an honest mistake. When the advanced "Flight" class changed from an advanced class for the higher ranks, to a 16 year old instructor's fitness hour we told our son to try his best or he didn't have to take the class if he didn't want to because it was a "free" class. When the main school became a glorified daycare where parents would drop off unruly children for class and not pick them up until much later and the instructors didn't do anything about the children disrupting classes we switched locations to avoid the issue. Every time we had an issue we brought it to the attention of instructors and staff and the most common response we were given was "Well that's just Master Hall and how he does things." Over the last year my son was constantly removed from taking the classes that I paid for and was made to assist instead, on top of being asked to come in on his off days to assist or teach classes to help cover staffing issues. Rarely was there ever a thank you given but they were more than happy to continue to accept my monthly payments even though my son wasn't able to participate in the classes that I was paying for because he was being removed and made to assist. The last straw was when the owner's son, a 2nd degree black belt and instructor/staff member, decided that it was OK to belittle and berate my son in front of the class he was assisting and the parents watching, calling him repeatedly an irresponsible black belt and an irresponsible instructor because he had not been signed up to get his picture taken for the school poster. When I pointed out that I was the reason he wasn't signed up and that the responsibility was mine, his response was "No it is his responsibility to make sure that you sign him up and bring him." My son gave me every announcement sheet and made me aware of everything that was going on at the school. I chose not to sign him up for pictures, the responsibility was my own. All of this was brought to the attention of one of the higher ranking instructors and staff members and at the very next class my son attended he was immediately pulled from the class I paid for him to take and made to assist. So we decided at that point our issues were not being taken seriously so we left mid class and a call was made after informing the school that my son would no longer be attending the school. Only to find out a couple days later that we were being bad mouthed by the owner in the staff group chat and zero accountability was taken for the berating and belittling of my son or how they took advantage of him as an assistant instructor by constantly pulling him from the classes I was paying for him to take.

This is a great place to learn Karate for children or adults of all backgrounds and sizes…read more The Environment: The school itself feels very comfortable. It is a cozy place with lots of small touches that make it feel personal instead of commercial. Since the classes are limited to 10 students at a time, there is always enough room to safely and comfortably practice. The school has a large focus on technique over athleticism and stature, which is probably why there is such a range of different people that can attend the school and benefit from the teachings. This is not the type of school where you will be asked to run intense drills or be yelled at for mistakes. The teaching is relaxed, you can ask questions and learn at your own pace. Different skill levels often practice in the same class so you have the added benefit of learning from your higher-ranking peers. The Teacher: Prof. Geary is the founder of this school and a 10th degree black belt with impressive credentials. He is the youngest 10th degree blackbelt in America, second youngest in the world, and proof of his credentials is readily available online and displayed in the school which is a true testament to the legitimacy of the school. Professor Geary teaches all the classes himself, so you can feel confident knowing you are receiving quality instruction straight from the source, rather than second-hand. His general demeanor shows that he cares way more about teaching good karate to his students than how to spend marketing dollars, which I really appreciate. Inclusivity: People of various shapes, sizes, colors and ages on a large range go to the school. There are children and seniors, many people from different background and many people who you wouldn't immediately think of as athletic. They are all welcome and show respect to each other at the school. Overall I would highly recommend studying Kempo Karate here.

Nothing too fancy, but that seems to keep the membership costs much more affordable than some of the other gyms in the area. They are apparently working on installing a shower. Depending on your sign up deal, you might be able to get a free pair of gloves! This is a HUGE steal, especially considering most gyms make you borrow a pair that smells like it's never been washed. The owner, Frank, is also incredibly friendly and has a great story about his start with kickboxing. Based on the first class and overall experience, I can already see myself becoming a member. Looking forward to taking many more classes in the future!

It's a super nice community of people and the trainers are really welcoming. Frank (the owner/trainer) has a really fascinating story about how he decided to buy the company himself! Mason also is a professional boxer and gives good advice and real life situations of how this workout helps. Brittany also does a fun Boot Camps to break up boxing everyday. I've been to other classes through Class Pass and TKO is by far the most welcoming. They take newbies through a good startup class to go over all the punches and kicks. They focus 100% on form to prevent injuries making this class pretty safe for newbies. Overall, I've been getting a great workout from them and will continue to come back! Highly recommend if you want to get back into shape, get some stress out, learn a fun new skill, and have some fun!
