Seminole State College. where do i begin? I started my schooling here in 1980 and would be an alumni had I not had my three beautiful girls (ages redacted). The campus has since improved and relapsed into archaic tradition since I've last seen the beautiful red brick buildings, and I'd like to touch on some things I've noticed. For one thing the Raider center is a great addition to the Sanford/Lake Mary campus and I would go a great way just to work out there were my sciatica and Arthritis not so severe. Geoff and staff are delightful, always making sure to attend to the needs of the patrons and dare I say just so polite to conversate with! However, some areas of campus are far less attractive. One of my biggest qualms is with the bird population. I have been on numerous accounts been followed, harassed, chased, and at times mocked by the so called 'endangered' sandhill cranes. Their evil eyes are most unwelcome in my life and I religiously avoid them at all costs. They seem to know me, and regardless of where I am they always seem to find me. Birds hold grudges... nevertheless they are a dark splotch on the pristine canvas of this institution and were I not an avid PETA enthusiast I would recommend complete annihilation of these terrible creatures. Animals deserve life- but these monsters deserve despair as they have caused me despair all these many years. The campus is beautiful! Horrible Financial Aid service . I turned in all of my info early just for me to still have problems with getting my financial aid awarded to me and now I'm late AGAIN with paying tuition, now it is almost near the due date for charging books towards financial aid. I called someone (around May 6th) about my concerns and the girl sounded like she had an attitude and did not want to be on the phone. She told me that I should be awarded (by this week) and NADA. But now I'm pretty sure she only said this to get off of the phone. I've emailed the FA office and still haven't gotten a response, they used to reply quickly within the next day of a few hours or minutes. But now there's dead silence. I graduated from here before and had problems with the FA, but not to this extent, to where I can't even pay for my classes nor books and nobody responds. read more

.37! Don't take classes from Dr. Qu, he is full of himself and an unfair instructor!!!! Final project was submitted and wasn't going to give a passing grade because of .37 points. Only way to pass was to redo a whole project which took over 36 hours instead of correcting the original one. Then didn't even acknowledge the project was complete. Only way to find out if he submitted a passing grade was to check the official registrar. Unacceptable, unprofessional and definitely not someone to who should be represented and/or teaching his profession. read more

If it was possible to give Seminole State zero stars that would be perfect, stay away from this money hungry institution. That's all the care about, your issues as a student are non existent. Their administration are the only ones allowed to not be perfect. Worst counselors you can find too, less you right into failure and then what you to pay for it. I was sexually harassed and attacked on this campus by a security guard that the college allowed to get away with this behavior for years. I never received an apology. Instead, they came after me personally for filing a suit. The mobbish type of behavior of the attorneys they hired lied, buried evidence, and caused me to be hospitalized twice. I have been waiting to have access to my financial aid account for literally two weeks now. Classes start Monday for fall 2023 and the school has yet to say one word to help me. So they will be losing a student who was planning to come back for Fall 2023 due to NO FAULT of my own. They should be ASHAMED of themselves and how they've handled this mess. This review is only for the library. Lovveed this place. Visited for a few weeks and needed a nice clean quiet place to study. This was it! Loved the convenience of being able to book study rooms online or with a scan code (if you are a student). The library itself has soo many nice seating areas for group or individual study but my fav was the study rooms. Loved the big windows to let all the natural light in. Numerous outlets built into the table and some wall outlets. Huge white boards too! Bonus for me the AC was always on full blast so it was a great white noise for studying (just dont forget your jacket bc its coollld). Library staff is amazing - every single one of them. Always friendly. Always smiling. Always willing to help. Only bad thing I would say is the guest wifi could be a little crappy from time to time but thats not the libraries fault per se. Anyway, if you need a quiet place to study at least over the summer skip starbucks and come here! Barely made it out a few words and she talked over the student and did not let them get out another word. Student Regress should be the moto. It's not okay to speak to anyone like that or make comments behind someone's back, especially coming from a staff member. You don't have to take it! Worst school in central Florida. Go to Valencia instead very well staffed and geared programs that transfer better then Seminole. The admin staff really do minimal work and don't care about students. The professors are all amazing great people who care about what they do! But the admin really ruins the school, not worth it go to Valencia. read more

I have been attending to receive a certificate diploma. I graduated with a bachelors degree many years ago. I enrolled last fall with no issues, took classes in the spring also. Now they are saying I need to send all transcripts, even though I supplied the one where I graduated. I can't register now because my English classes were at another university. Common sense should prevail and allow me to register. I would have had to have those classes to graduate from a major Florida University. They will not think logically and just keep making it hard to attend. I would not recommend the school. read more

I have four kids in college and hands down, Seminole State is the hardest to work with. There is zero communication from them even through the student portal. I have my three other kids at state colleges both in/out of state and nothing is as challenging as dealing with Seminole State. SO disappointing! read more

Have taken classes on and off at SCC for years. Graduated from UCF and come to this school to take tech improvement classes. My teachers have experience in the real world, or also work in the field. They all speak excellent english, and classes are smaller then UCF. You can find yourself in a class as small as 17 students and as many as 30 at least in my field. They do however offer online classes, I don't approve of this method of teaching and have been able to avoid them. They offer degrees and certificates. I was really not interested in either but took enough classes to receive a certificate. The classes I took were hands on using real equipment, granted it is older equipment but the same technology is used today. I have to say that I have received enough training here to improve my salary and position in my industry. I would not be able to afford this at UCF or many other schools. The negatives here are, that some classes you want to take that are more advanced are hardly offered. Also the registration process is a nightmare at times. The site they use is also extremely hard to use and navigate. They don't appear to have much money for the classroom. They had recently became a four year college in a few fields. I don't like that change. They used to be much more affordable, but I think becoming an official 4 year college allows them to charge more. The cost has risen to the point where I have to think do I really want to pay $450.00 for a 4 credit course, and on top of that $200-300 for books. It doesn't help that every year UCF gets approved to charge much more for their classes. I think it gives these smaller schools the ok to increase their rates. They don't have a sports program or any of that nonsense, so you will continue to save there. Regardless the cost has risen aproximatlly 25% in the past three years. read more

My step-son just graduated from police academy (which he found most enjoyable) and the ceremony that was given for completing all that hard earned work was just breath-taking indeed! Here's another college that I basically grew up around while my father was a professor here. Seminole Community College is one of the best community colleges in the state (well, according to their advertisements, anyway) and once you get on the campus it's hard to disagree. It's actually one of the quietest campuses I remember going to, and there are several locationas all around Seminole County. The Good: They're Everywhere!:No matter where you live in Seminole County (or even in Orange County) there's an SCC near you. And while some campuses offer more than others, most are well-balanced from what I've seen. Guaranteed FL university admission: So maybe you've got you're sights set on UF or U Miami, but you're grades aren't good enough. No Worries! SCC has you covered, because a 2 year degree from SCC is your ticket in! The Bad: Study Hard: Ok, now this is only hearsay, but I have heard that SCC is one of the hardest community colleges in the state in terms of rigorous coursework. Now if you're into that kind of thing then that is all good for you, but if you're looking for a breezy few years, you may want to look elsewhere. In addition to my experience with my father I actually know a few people who have gone to SCC and they've all had very positive experiences. So if you're looking for a community college, definitely check out SCC! read more

My son has been trying to get his financial aid verified through my Seminole State College login since September 1st calling IT department having password reset with no sucess loging in and school doesn't have any answers to why this is happening so he cannot enroll and the school doesn't help and told he has to pay for his schooling then he'll get reimbursed. Took 2 classes here after high school in 2005... Before heading to a real college. Positive: Campus is clean and well kept. Negative: The teachers I had were not too brilliant- they weren't stupid, but I would expect a little more out of a college teacher. I started at this school in 1987 for 2 semesters. Being young and immature, I did not do well and transferred. Fast forward almost 20 years. I'm a nurse and working professional. I worked 40+ hour work weeks AND had a family. Decided that maybe I wanted to change course and study something else. I went back at nights and took 9 hours ( did I mention that I worked full time AND maintained a home and family ? ) . I ACED the semester with straight A's !!!! When I attempted to register for the next semester, I was blocked and told that I was on academic probation !!! I attempted to email and speak to an "advisor" with no luck. Financial Aid Dept: Flat-out liars who care nothing about your financial well-being. Career Programs: You can stick to the curriculum, but do not expect the school to. They have no problem changing the course work at any time. Professors: Some do care 40%, but the rest really could care less about your future. Bookstore: Enough said. Prepare to be ass-raped at will. Parking: Even though part of your tuition goes towards parking, good luck finding a spot. Especially at the Altamonte Springs campus. Dishonest School. VETS BEWARE! I am a Navy veteran who used my GI bill to attend this school in 2016/2017. I am writing this to warn you that there are many other schools who can offer just what Seminole State can. Use your GI Bill at those schools and save yourself from what I am going through. While the teaching faculty was wonderful, the administration is dishonest and unfair. Enrolling here is risky, especially if you are not a traditional student. Although I satisfied all debts to this university, Seminole State refuses to release my transcripts. The Registrar's department is especially deceitful and has an unwillingness to acknowledge fault and they have a large role in how your academic plan plays out. The head of the registrar department, a woman named Kathy Voudry, told me 'you should have never been accepted in the first place' and was unwilling to help rectify the situation that her department, mainly Frances Middleton helped to create. Frances Middleton, a supposed air force veteran, claimed to be willing to help me but simply lied to get me off their backs about the administrative error they had made (which prevented me from getting transcripts). When the time came for Frances to complete what she had promised, she lied. Very veteran friendly, sure. SSC denied me an academic advisor for my first semester because I was a non-degree seeking student. They failed me on numerous occasions and are responsible for me missing two nursing school application periods. I have lost the portion of my GI Bill that covered those classes and now have to pay out of pocket to take them again or pay for a lawyer to fight for my transcripts. Veteran's affairs has very little authority and can do nothing to help. Department of Edu can't help, Vet center at school can't help, Clearinghouse can't help, Senators can't help....you get the point. Stay away and stay worry free. read more

I lived in Missouri and Arizona. Went to college and universities in both states. Came here to receive my teaching certification. This EPI program is a complete joke!!!! Dr. F. the head of the EPI program, was never fully organized or prepared. Her online syllabuses were from previous classes 2 years ago. They never matched and were out of date. I spent more time trying to figure her mess out, i didnt learn ANYTHING!!!! I would NOT recommend this program if you want to learn!!! I would recommend this program if you just wanna get by. Ok so there hasn't been a recent review in a while. Last review I see was 4 years ago. So let's get started. First, it is no longer called SCC. It's now SSC; Seminole State College of Florida. They're a four year State College now. Still the Raiders. Still no dorms. Still a rocking Student Center with a Nature's Table Cafe. They only offer a handful of Bachelor Programs as of yet, but I'm sure more are to come. Parking is now amazing. LOTS of spaces now after all the construction was finished. They offer a really good automotive program, as well as EMT Training and the Police/ Corrections Program. The enrollment process is a little rough. They make it hard to get in. Not difficult, just hard. As in, there are like, 15 steps for what can be done in two. And lots of waiting around and transferring from room to room during the enrollment process. But once you're in, it's worth the tediousness. The atmosphere of the classes is very relaxed. All in all, I love this school and think it's way better than Valencia. I did one semester in Business Management back in '09, and I'm back again, this time around starting the Police Academy. So if you want to be educated, enroll now. read more

This was my first semester here and my first time in college experience could not have been better. I am what they call a non-traditional student and English is not my first language. I was very lost in how to sign up pick a degree and figure out costs. The admission team helped me through all steps (I was proactive and did ask for help - about 372 times) the admissions team were always very clear in their guidance and when it came the day to take the SAT test a very sweet lady signed me in and explained the rules to take the test. She made my anxieties at ease. My first semester was scary to the bone. Thankfully I had an amazing math teacher. She truly cared for our academic success. Her office hours and the free tutoring lab brought my confidence up and help me learn so much that I scored 100% in all the tests. I also took an English 1 class. Even thought the teaching style of my English teacher wasn't very appealing to me, in the end of the course I scored 85.95% and as I was analyzing my grades, I did have a great improvement. In the beginning of the semester my timed essay scores were 39 & 60 and by the end of the course the score was 80, 84, 90. Seminole state college is a great college. I can't wait for the Summer semester to start Monday!!!! read more

This is my school, there are many like it, but this one is mine... no seriously, seminole has a pretty cozy campus considering where it's located which says a lot because I can't stand Sanford, FL. I transferred to Seminole State from Valencia in Orlando, and one thing I do like over Valencia is the user friendly approach at Seminole. Valencia's campus's are much more beautiful but Seminole is a lot easier to deal with in terms of finding an answer to an important question right when you need it. But as in all schools, you'll only get out what you put into it. read more

love going to the college, my classes and the professors all have been fabulous and great learning experience but the IT support, website and student services at the college is terrible and just doesn't match up. It is not too efficient. Review of transcripts and credit transfer was painful from the start and every semester there's a problem registering. Advising is just not a good experience for me. Every semester from day one I try registering for classes and I am blocked or there is an issue. I have met with advisors to make sure when I register in the fall I am all set for taking classes. Get home register and I am blocked.... like constantly and there's always this manual registration form to fill out. Send email to advisor and leave voice mail. I get response a week later but did I tell you I met with advisor the week prior to make sure all is good and to review my education plan? Response... See attachment for registering as long as the class isn't filled up. So I am a bit disappointed as this has been going on for since day one. Last year I was driving to advising appointment (my job is 40 miles from the campus for my appt) and the advisor called me to ask me if I was coming because she said she wasn't sure if I was coming and seemed confused about our appointment and if I was going to just call her. I threw a fit on the phone because I was 30 miles into the drive and this was to sign paperwork for graduation and she said I didn't need to come. Not like we hadn't been corresponding or emailing prior to or anything like that. Also as I am driving to the appointment I am told over the phone that I may not be able to graduate because my credits has not been reviewed or something crazy like that. Told they never received my information requested and I showed them the email. Its always a fiasco. Nice folks there, but screaming for efficiency. I receive advising education plan by email just a month or so ago with my transfer credits and its all wrong so I make advising appointment. Advisor says oh someone manually just plugs that stuff in and moves it over but its not right. I fixed it. I should be able to register and there should be no blocks unless I really do need a prerequisite. For me this is not the case...there is always a hold or some problem every semester. I expect it!!! How about that IT department. Never available when you need them. Always resetting my password and usually its always a problem taking about 20 minutes to reset my password. What is it? Is it me? never had this problem anywhere but here at this website. What about that password reset they send you that looks like this (*|l3#%(}Etj oh yeah that's right. Who likes that? One would think we area going to school at the Pentagon. Great college, good professors, good program but the rest is irritating. read more

Great teachers but horrible administration! I completed all my courses for an associates degree 4 years ago, filled out the paperwork to graduate and used proof of having my degree to get my first job at a hospital. 4 years later they ask me if I want to graduate because it showed on my transcript that apparently I hadn't, plus it was showing classes I never took. Now I have to wait 3 months before I get my degree again and I have to deal with fixing my transcript. read more

Horrible Student Services, Management, and Administration. My son dropped out of Seminole State after 1 semester. Is like herding cattle through a corral with no specific instructions as to go East or West. Find out on your own as mistakes occur, yours of course. No serious student would attend this college. But Seminole State does want your money. My son ended paying for the same course twice due to their negligence. But I cannot even get the 1098-T for tax purposes, as no browser on different computers will load the required document. My son is now enrolled into a serious, fulltime, professional program. I had to get transcripts and when I called they said I had to send a fax. I don't have a fax machine so I drove here from Apopka and they couldn't even give me my transcripts. I have to wait and get them in the mail. Ridiculous. read more

After having my account information lost, the faculty at Seminole State were rude and couldn't answer any of my questions. The company they receive students refunds through are the worst (also lost information). Both facilities seem to have problems keeping information straight. You think as much as we all pay to go to college we would get a little more respect from the faculty but they talk to people as if we are stupid or annoying them. This is the second college I have attended and I say its the worst. But I will say I do love the professors! read more
