I was discharged after my recovery and was given very clear and explicit post-op instructions as to care and follow-up. My rehab went quite smoothly and the end result was a resounding success!

Let me start by acknowledging that the average person will not read this due to its length and it…read moreis in fact more for Dr. Diaz's review. I sought consultation from Dr. Diaz for a second opinion after a recent shoulder surgery with a different surgeon. I made the appointment 1 month in advance of being seen and sent my medical records at that time. I arrived for my appointment and the nurse obtaining my history was unaware I had come in for a second opinion regarding a recent shoulder surgery. Radiographs were obtained - I'm unsure why as my shoulder injuries are diagnosed and visualized most accurately through MRI which I had both pre and post-operatively - a month ago. I explained to Dr. Diaz that I did not receive communication from the first surgeon post-operatively, at my initial follow up exam, nor when I developed complications, but was instead channeled through a PA and this left me with a great deal of uncertainty regarding my recovery. Dr. Diaz expressed empathy and concern as I voiced my concerns and expressed regret that in her words "I had the Cleveland Clinic experience". I did not feel rushed and I thought I was in good hands. That said, I forgot my MRI imaging disc but was assured it was no problem at all. She said as soon as she received it she would call me to review. I uploaded the studies that very same night. I waited and called 2 days later to verify they received it which they did. I was advised Dr. Diaz would call as soon she reviewed the study. I waited 2 more days and not wanting to be annoying chose to call later in the day around 4pm not realizing they close at 3pm on Fridays. I called again the following week 1 week after my appointment during normal business hours and left a voice mail requesting a return call. I received a call later that day from a nurse/receptionist stating Dr. Diaz reviewed my images and felt my tenodesis was intact and that my pain should resolve with more PT and time. Disappointed that I did not hear directly from Dr. Diaz as she led me to believe I would, I questioned to the nurse the fact that my post-op MRI report contrasted Dr. Diaz's diagnosis. The MRI stated my biceps tendon was torn and retracted distally. After placing me on hold the nurse/receptionist returned to advise me Dr. Diaz was sending an image from my MRI which supported her position. At this time, I expressed to the nurse/receptionist my disappointment as outlined above, that I had hoped to hear directly from Dr. Diaz. After all communication and lack thereof with the initial surgeon was part of our discussion during our initial meeting and more importantly the reason for the second opinion. A few minutes later Dr. Diaz called to express that her feelings were hurt by my saying she was unempathetic and an uncaring doctor. I explained to Dr. Diaz that I informed her nurse to the contrary and from our initial meeting I did find her to be empathetic and compassionate and really expected a follow up call as she promised so emphatically when she said, "I got you". Dr. Diaz then elected to express that due to case load this is the turnaround time and that she did call me back. 2 phone calls, a week later, and only after I believe she had her feelings hurt did she call. I truly wish this had a different outcome as she came highly recommended. I came to Dr. Diaz from a place of venerability seeking communication and answers I was lacking and hoping for reassurance and guidance only to end up with a similar but different "Cleveland Clinic experience".

Quick background, my…read morewife (who came with me on the second visit) has over 35 years of professional experience and has dealt with and known hundreds of MD's. Never have I met a doctor that comes up short in so many ways, so numerous it's best to just make a list: She entered the examining room and never acknowledged the presence of my spouse. A head nod would have sufficed, and actually it was rude. She was "treating" a severe situation listed on the "pain" scale (1-10) as a ten. If you would like any compassion or empathy avoid this women. Told the medication she prescribed seems to have no effect, produced a shrug. She doesn't give the patient a chance to ask a question and offers up absolutely no information. The office treatment required five spine injections. Not a word or warning before she started. Would be nice to be told, "you'll feel a stick" or just "here we go". Still no information was forthcoming; injections should work in hours, days, weeks? A simple question about at home treatment, heat vs cold did get an annoyed response. After the injections she walked from the room without a word leaving the door half open. Minutes later we were called and told where to checkout. Guess we were done, huh? She clearly makes it obvious she's uncaring and doesn't give a damn about you and couldn't be more disinterested. BTW, this was the second visit yet she never asked if the first injections worked well or not at all. You would think that information would be of value to her. Visit her and you will get minimal information, no advise on the process, or expectations. What you will get is an attitude that indicates you're bothering her. She has all the warmth of a Pet Rock.
