BEWARE! This is a scam. In July 2026, my elderly mother in law in Dorval, Quebec was targeted by a company called SelectStone Masonry & Construction from Kanata, Ontario. Their salesman "Tom" approached her outside her home and claimed her gutters and flashing needed to be replaced. Minutes later, a crew of around five workers removed all existing gutters and roughly half of the flashing and soffits from her house, even though she had only been given an estimate and had not consented to start major work. After the demolition, Tom suddenly claimed they had found "wet rot" and said the wood would need to be replaced for $18,000. When I arrived and inspected the area, they were lying. The owner, "David," later told me that the original written price was "too low" and that at that price they would only replace about half of the gutters, and flashing, contradicting what was written on their own estimate. I instructed him to cancel the job immediately. Since then, they have never returned to repair the work. My mother in law has been left with no gutters and with sections of her flashing and soffits removed. She now is looking at a $5,000 repair to fix the damage done by SelectStone Masonry & Construction.
In my opinion, this appears to be a home improvement scam using high pressure, door to door tactics focused on seniors: exaggerate or invent problems, do quick demolition, then demand far more money to "fix" issues they claim to have discovered.
