Julius Meinl served here.
(Yippee!)
You know, it's kind of funny how one of the things I was most excited about doing while in Europe was drinking beer, yet that somehow beer managed to be the beverage I drank the least of. Turns out, a cold beer is not at all what I want in the middle of a particularly frigid winter with well below freezing temperatures.
We came here in the wee hours of a very late night and this coffee shop by day/bar by night was bumping like it was Friday happy hour after the longest work day ever. Everyone was drinking beer, but I was the jerk who ordered a 3am coffee.
The crowd was a fun one with mostly late-20 somethings who may very well have been there since 5:00 whistle blew, based on how loud were. Not that they were unruly, because they certainly weren't, but every table in there seemed like a harmless group of quasi-dweebs just out for a few dozen rounds of giant beers and many, many, many loud laughs with their nerd friends. It was actually really nice and we enjoyed being a part of crowd.
Service was on point... at least comparably to the rest of the Plzen service industry and prices weren't terrible.
The place was as clean as a science lab and the entryway had an overbearingly strong pine-sol smell, but after our the last bar we'd stopped in having reeked of mildew, the pine sol scent was a nice change up.
My coffee was fresh, the beers were good (according to my friends), and had I not chosen to sleep in the next morning I probably would have come back here for more Meinl to start my day. read more
