The Inn at the Crossroads - Lake City, SC As the only…read moresit-down restaurant in town, the restaurant at The Inn at the Crossroads holds a special place in Lake City's dining scene. Tucked inside this boutique hotel, it's a welcoming space for date nights, business dinners, or whenever you want to impress someone with a little Southern charm and city-style polish. The food is good, with great appetizers that set the tone for the meal. The pasta dishes arrive hot and satisfying, and there's a full bar to pair your plate with a handcrafted cocktail or a glass of wine. The vibe? Chic yet comfortable--a nice break from the grab-and-go options around town. Their lunch specials used to be a real treat--tasty, creative, and affordable. Unfortunately, those have been paused again, which takes away a bit of the accessibility that once made it a go-to spot for locals on a lunch break. To be fair, while the meals are enjoyable and the space is lovely, the restaurant still seems to be finding its rhythm, especially when it comes to service times and consistent hours. That said, when it's open and operating smoothly, you're in for a good experience. All in all, it's a solid choice for a nice evening out in Lake City, with plenty of potential to become something even greater. We'll keep coming back--hoping each time they're a little closer to finding their groove.

She explained everything about the hotel and even recommended dining options. The hotel has a restaurant that is very nice, gives upscale vibes. We didn't get to dine at the restaurant because of other obligations during the hours they were open. The courtyard is beautiful and very relaxing. The hotel is very clean, decorated beautifully! Definitely giving luxury boutique. Our room was very spacious and clean. The bed was comfortable! Will definitely stay here again.

There are several restaurants within walking distance (we dined at the Mexican restaurant next door last night) and many others within a short drive. My King room is large and comfortable. There are USB outlets in convenient locations. The bed was very comfortable. My room, as well as the hallway, lobby, and elevator was very clean. The only minor issue is that the dryer is out of order. A very nice place to stay!

Inside the lobby area is a small snack area for purchasing items and free coffee + tea area with sugar station and hot water. The check in process was extremely fast and friendly. The elevator is very much a ride at Universal Studios with a rocky screech landing. But safe overall is kinda funny tho but not. The hallways were clean and well kept. The room was very spacious and I liked that they had a shelf to put your key cards and luggage. They had spacious desks, lots of lighting throughout and a dual shade option to blackout the room for sleep. The coffee/tea bar has a Keurig maker, but leaked mini water bottles to make the coffee. The beds were comfy and the shower was good. The bathroom lighting is quite harsh but there is a motion censored nightlight. By the TV is a cool curved touch light with European outlets. There are plenty of outlets with both standard and USB outlets. The only tiny thing i would add is a charging pad on the counters in case ppl forget their chargers. TIP: Turn the knob all the way to the left to get to the hot water. Now let's talk breakfast - skip it if you like cool lackluster potatoes and eggs. The only saving grace is the coffee, instant oatmeal, oikos yogurt, and dry cereals. There are also a few places to eat up the road if bfast is important. TIP: If you go behind the breakfast area in the main lobby area, you can sit in a less crowded area near the business center. Check out was just as fast and easy. I've would definitely go here again!

Loved the big soaking tub! Definitely was a draw for us. It was great after a long 7.5 hour drive even though it was a ways off I-95! Totally worth it! While we initially had a bit of confusion upon check in with the type of room booked, it was quickly sorted. There were a few niggling fine points that could be improved upon, the person at the desk upon checking out asked about things and assiduously took notes on the few items.

This hotel is well structured with a quaint historical feel. The rooms are huge and apartment like. Our suite was a delight with a full stylish kitchen even a table in the kitchen. It's very hard not to feel at home here. We enjoyed relaxing in the living room area with the cable TV. The bedroom was wonderful as well equipped with a sleep number bed. Oh what an experience. The bathroom is very beautiful and set to impress with all the modern touches to make you feel spoiled as well as welcomed. My experience here was far and beyond any expectations I could ever have for a small town like Hartsville, not that I don't expect small towns to have nice hotels however this one is way beyond like I said earlier. I'm already planning my next visit Hartsville visit and yes I'll be staying here again and again. You can't go wrong you will be very comfortable here at The Mantissa!

A Timeless Stay at the Motor Inn - South of the Border, Hamer, NC…read more The Motor Inn at South of the Border is more than just a place to rest--it's a piece of Americana that deserves to shine again. From the neon glow at night to the nostalgic charm that lingers around every corner, staying here feels like stepping into another era. The rooms are simple, comfortable, and filled with the character of a roadside treasure that has welcomed travelers for generations. What makes this place special isn't just the rooms--it's the lure of South of the Border itself. This iconic stop has been part of countless road trips, family vacations, and southern adventures. Keeping it alive, relevant, and celebrated is important not only for travelers but for preserving a cultural landmark. That's why I, Thomas Miller--author of South of the Border: The Motel That Eats Time--have dedicated my writing to capturing that magic. My book blends nostalgia with horror, weaving a story that keeps South of the Border alive in the imagination of readers everywhere. Horror might seem like an unlikely ally, but through it, I'm shining a light on this place, ensuring its legend continues and new generations rediscover its lure. If you're planning a road trip through North or South Carolina, I highly recommend booking a night at the Motor Inn. Come for the neon lights, stay for the history, and experience the atmosphere that inspired my novel.
