I love the inventory at this shop, but the customer service is always kinda awkward and inconsistent. I wish they would work on being more cordial to customers, like greeting them, wrapping purchases, and assisting with large orders. As a fellow business owner on School Street, this was honestly upsetting. I experienced noticeably different treatment compared to other customers. On my first visit, I felt uncomfortable being followed around the store. On my second visit, a man with reddish hair denied me service and took back a frame I was in the process of purchasing for one of my trainee's certificates. When he approached the counter, he looked me up and down, greeted and asked how the woman behind me was doing before addressing me, and then proceeded to upcharge me after casually telling me his day was "good" when I asked politely. He didn't even bother to be kind and ask me how mine was.. What's most frustrating is that many of my lighter-skinned clients rave about the service they receive here, which makes my experience feel even more concerning. I'm a professional, classy beautician, I'm no scrub. It's a real shame, especially within our local business community. Fellow locals deserve to know that not everyone is treated the same. read more

My wife and I are deeply disappointed by our experience here. What should have been a simple transaction turned into something uncomfortable and upsetting. My wife was treated noticeably differently than other customers in the store. She was followed, spoken to dismissively, and ultimately denied service in a way that felt targeted and unjustified. When concerns were raised and we attempted to address the issue directly, the business hung up on us rather than attempting to resolve the situation. This wasn't about a misunderstanding or a bad day. It was about how someone was made to feel unwelcome and disrespected. No customer should walk away feeling singled out or devalued, especially in a local business that claims to serve the community. The service here was poor, the response afterward was worse, and the lack of accountability speaks volumes. Based on our experience, we will not be returning and would urge others to think carefully before supporting a business that handles customers this way. Hey everybody, you have to see this place!! My daughter and I have been coming to this charming store for so many years. We never leave without a few (or many more) items. There are always treasures in the many booths. The prices are very reasonable and there are so many surprises. I've brought friends in and they are astonished that this great little store has two floors full of goodies. Recently we were so delighted because we even won a raffle!! A very large basket was full of items that seemed like we chose them ourselves. To be honest, there was a little tussle over who got the big ceramic chicken. My daughter won the bird , but I scored a fantastic assortment of Japanese -made knick-knacks just like I loved in my childhood. Such a fun day at this great store. Secondhand Rose is sort of a "staple" of Lodi. It's been there a long time and they have a lot of different vendors inside one shop. Lots to choose from! However, pricing is widely inconsistent so you really should "know your stuff" before buying anything from any of the vendors. The biggest downside of this antique/thrift store, is the customer service of the owner. She is rude, unprofessional, and often downright nasty to customers. She simply does not care. She does NOT make people feel welcome, and is often pointedly rude on purpose. She has done this to me on at least two occasions, but I have witnessed it being done to many other customers. Lately, if I walk in and see she's the one at the counter, I walk right back out. She appears to be miserable. About 4 months ago I was downstairs in the basement where there are a ton more vendors, and one of the vendors was there pricing her items. We chatted a bit and then I brought up the rudeness of the owner and the vendor said, "Yeah. She's going through a lot right now." I just nodded. If you read the reviews on here, she's has received a lot of negative feedback regarding customer service going back 7 years!! Another vendor named Sean (Shawn) frequently "minds the store" when the owner is not in. Typically he is nice, friendly and helpful. Unless it's an off day. Then he can be just as dismissive. So, lots of great stuff but horrible customer service. They often make the customer feel like they're an inconvenience. read more

This place is awesome! Prices can be on the more expensive side, but hey so is everything in America now. They do have sales on specific lots so you can find some very good deals. I've gone 3 times when they were supposed to be open but it's locked up, I would advise you to call before. They also have ghost tours so that's a bonus! read more

Intimidated me. Employee called me a TERRORIST (likely because I'm Asian). Kept me from leaving because I tried to politely inform them about mask laws (not trying to make them follow - just informing them neutrally). Went to their estate sale. They were complaining loudly about masks and didn't want to wear them. They weren't wearing masks, but we're still complaining as soon as we walked in with a mask. I politely informing them that the mask mandate was in place until June 15th(today is May 23) and did apply to businesses since my friend with me was immunocompromised. I then tried to leave, but one of the employees had a problem with that. Got right in my face. He's about a foot taller than me and blocked me from leaving the premise. I was trying to leave and he wouldn't let me. The other employees got him to let me go and he followed me out and yelled at me insults until I got in the car. Called me a TERRORIST. read more

Went to one of their estate sales a few months ago and there was cool stuff.....but very inconsistently priced. I'm very happy with my purchases and treasure them, I got some really valuable things cheap, but then other very common items had really high price tags and didn't make sense. (I do hope that the family of the deceased was pleased with the money they brought it, but I doubt everything sold). Unfortunately, one star because the place was PACKED and none of the employees were wearing masks or enforcing that others did. Came in for the first time recently. I wanted to love this store so much. The ladies all working there were extremely friendly and helpful. There is a large selection of items, some super cool things too that I haven't seen elsewhere! But the pricing is really bizarre. Some items are way overpriced. There were quite a few things I wanted to buy, but I couldn't justify spending that much on thrifted items. Dropped in today after a lunch date, and decided to walk around and look for treasures. We haven't been there in a while and we were glad we went back. The place is even bigger than it used to be with more vendor booths than I remember. Everything was clean and organized, not intimidating to shop out at all. There's still some thing for everyone at this shop. Absolutely love the owners and their employees! After reading past reviews, I don't think people understand that these wonderful folks help individuals with their own vendor booths. All of the one star reviews in the last couple of years seem to be people who are worried about their health, and if their health is that compromised then why are they out shopping at places like an antique mall in the first place!?! Non-essential items ... Or in public period. All in all, I'm glad this type of store still exists in downtown Lodi. They also accept the RadCard, which helps promote consumerism and building back our small businesses. See you next week! read more

I recently visited this store. when I first entered I was excited about the merchandise they offered. I chose two items and continued to look around. I was looking around when I realized I was being followed by an employee who never once asked me if I needed assistance she just followed me as going to steal something. after looking around I had changed my mind on an item I had picked when I first arrived and since I didn't remember where I got it (it's a thrift store) I placed it neatly on a shelf. the employee grabbed the item and came to me and said, rudely, "do you not want this?". I felt as if she was pissed off that I didn't put it back where I found it. I certainly would have if I remembered where it went but being a thrift store things are everywhere. this woman was so rude that I put the other item at the register and left feeling really unwanted in that store. never again will I shop there. it's sad for them because I was actually looking for vintage props for a film and I really was liking what they had. I suppose I will travel to Sacramento for the items we need. I will not give my business to anyone who treats customers this way. read more

I really enjoy going into this shop and think they have a lot of cool stuff, however, their customer service needs work. I bought a table from here on a Friday and couldn't take it with me that day, so I asked if I could pick up the next day. She told me no problem. So I drive 30 minutes to go pick up and as soon as I walk in the woman told me we are closed. I said it's only 4:00 and website says 5:00. She had family plans and was closing early. I told her, I'm just here to pick up this table that was still covered in stuff and she said ok I can help you quickly. So I come back today hoping to find a few more treasures and they are closed again. There is a very small note on the door stating the reason and when they will return. Interesting selection but pretty pricey. The problem I had with this place is that when I was looking at a specific item, the owner(?) told me it was from WW1 and would be about $100. Because of the particular logo, I immediately suspected that this was not true. It was indeed a replica that I was able to easily find on eBay for $25 in the exact same condition. I shared my information with him and he admitted that he really didn't know when it was made. I was hoping for a price match, but the lowest he'd come down was to $60! It left me wondering if he was still going to try to pass it off to someone else as being from WW1. I won't be back to this establishment. Why state with authority that something is from WW1 if you really have no idea? I don't like deception. There are too many other establishments that are knowledgeable and trustworthy to choose from. This is an unusual review for me as I've never critiqued a second hand, or more impolitely termed thrift, store. I've always associated these stores as a step above Salvation Army or Goodwill. When I started my wrist watch collection, which grew to close to five hundred watches, I relied on EBay and craigslist more than frequenting antique stores. Secondhand Rose is classified as a consignment operated type of establishment. Not true. As I was talking with the proprietor, vendors rent space on a monthly basis and Secondhand Rose, upon sale of an object, will take 10% commission. The proprietor pointed out that, of course, a street level lease could range up to $240 a month. I was very surprised and asked a stupid question "Do they make any money off of this arrangement?". Her reply was that the lease holder right across from the cash register had been there seven years! You can't miss Secondhand Rose... on nice days the proprietor displays some of the junk, er antiques, right outside the establishment (as seen in photograph). Most Lodians that shop on School Street where Secondhand Rose is located already knows that this establishment has two levels... one you can see from street level; and they also have a basement level (where I presume the rent is quite a bit cheaper). Each vendor has a certain amount of square footage for their items; and each vendor can be generally categorized by the items they are trying to sell (ie, German Beer Steins, Costume Jewelry, etc). Objects for sale range from furniture, clothes, paintings, photographs, cameras, old typewriters, beer steins, and even costume jewelry! When I was perusing the various levels of Secondhand Rose... the objects that caught my eye were beer steins from Germany / Austria (a little used) that were selling for $40; old typewriters (remember what those contraptions were?) that ranged from $40-$80; some old cameras that ranged from $50-$75; and some small mantel clocks that were selling for less than $50. There were some 1950s vintage wrist watches that were selling for $40 that attracted my interest, but since I'm a collector I knew that was about $25 more than market. I didn't find anything to my liking today... but you never know... That's the fascination of shopping at antique stores... you just might find that one particular item... that will turn around and be a lottery winner. As I was leaving Secondhand Rose, the proprietor was pushing an original one-of-a-kind pre-production lithograph from an artist I've never heard of for over $2000 to another gentleman. Wow, a $2k piece of object d'art in a place called Secondhand Rose? Doesn't sound right, does it?!? I don't think she sold that one. For that hard to find gift for your collector acquaintance, you'll probably find what you're looking for at Secondhand Rose more likely than not. There are secondhand clothes stores, like Clothes Closet, right next door to Secondhand Rose; and there are strictly Antique Furniture stores on School Street; but Secondhand Rose has a cornucopia of anything you can imagine. At a higher price than most comparable establishments, but at least you'll find whatever in one place. read more

went in to look for some candle holders. saw a nice, vintage metal holder and saw that the price was $2 on the bottom. the lady at the register seemed friendly but she rang it up for $8. apparently there was another small sticker just wedged inside that i didnt see and asked her bout the $2 sticker on the bottom. she ignored where i was pointing at and said "do you want it or not???" in an intimidating way. thankfully there was another cheaper holder and i went back to get that instead, but unfortunately despite there being some nice (albiet overpriced) stuff in there, i dont feel comfortable coming back again. read more

I reside nearby this store and was excited to stop by after work. Their "open" light was on so I was thinking they were open. The doors were also wide open with a couple of people chatting outside. I walked in and the women at the register said: "We're closed." I was bothered with the way she said it. She seemed really exhausted and her tone was not very kind. I get it. I'm tired after a work day too, but I NEVER show it to my customers. Word of advice: Turn your "open" sign off and lock your doors when you close, as it seems to be on overnight as well. The Secondhand Rose is shabby chic. The shop has a very specific kind of customer. That's not to say that people with other types of taste wouldn't like it... there are interesting and unusual things in this store. However, the overall style is shabby chic. This store features lots of furniture, decorative items, frames, and more. Their prices, in my humble opinion, are a little high. I've been in 3-4 ties and have never found anything I had to have and was willing to pay the asking price. I'm sure the owner and her (I'm assuming) daughter are very nice. But, the last few times I've been in the shop the daughter has been working. She says, "Hello" and then goes back to fidgeting on her phone. She doesn't offer help or ask questions. Like I said, I'm sure she's nice... maybe just a little shy? Also, they need little things to buy. Soaps, lip balms, cards... something inexpensive and interesting. I might spend $5 in a store I like with nice owners/workers, but not much more than that (unless, of course, I find something I can't like without). If other people are like me, they could sell a lot of little things in a day, if they pump up their customer service. I do think it's a store worth checking out... just no my favorite. read more
