Seco Lounge serves a wide range of food, cakes, tapas, coffee, beer and cocktails. In short, there really is something here for everyone. At night time the whole place is lit up with candles in a cosy and personable air, which is romantic, comfortable, classy and relaxed. I'm a massive fan of everything that this little local 'chain' of cafes/bars has to offer. The Lounge Bars are a wonderful invention, and I look forward to them spreading all over in a Starbucks-like rash. Yay for expansion. One of my favourite things about this chain of cafes is the interior design. It's completely to my taste; think old churchy interiors with cosy sofas, candles and chit chat-able tables. The food and drinks here are wonderful; slightly on the expensive side, perhaps, but I've always found that it's worth every penny. A choice selection. Go and enjoy. read more

I have been here three times now and am slightly disappointed each time. The food is tasty with a great all day breakfast option with simple to complex tastes to cater for all dining types. The venue is very comfortable in a rustic sense and fantastically they have decent boardgames allowing you to drag out your meal if you so choose. The biggest drawback for me is that about half the staff are quite rude and make you feel like they're doing you a great favour, this always happens at the ordering stage at the register, the table staff seem great, but ordering sets the scene and leaves me feeling flat. read more

Lovely picturesque location, slightly over priced but this reflects the decent clientele. Service is slightly above average and the place can have a kind of cold feeling. The drinks are obviously well kept. Ideal venue for a meal somewhere between pub lunch and a slap up meal. read more

I gave this a 2 star rating as the location is fantastic and the overall look of the place is very nice indeed! The problem however is the lack of uniformed staff, one of which was wearing flip flops and shorts and far from helpful or even polite, small portions for the price (I counted 15 small fries with my burger & fries for £8.95) and it is a very noisy place to sit for lunch. When we had finished the meal, my girlfriend had barely put her fork down (literally) and the server cleared our table without any comment, feedback or even asking if we enjoyed the food. I won't be going back to Seco which is a shame because with a little more effort, this place could be onto a winner! On a positive note, the Tapas was very good although cold! read more

Wonderful setting and nicely designed, spacious and relaxed. The service was attentive and personal but the quality of the food cost them the 5th star. It was certainly flavoursome but 4 out of 6 dishes were a lttle dry. Don't let this put you off though - we still had a lovely evening and will return. read more

For its first few weeks I was really pleased to find this place because it was fresh very well situated a bit off the beaten track and a pleasing novelty. My attitude very quickly changed. The formula could be so good but it is very badly presented. Parking is near impossible within this private residential community being slowly converted out of an old naval establishment. Service in Seco is really bad. You have to wait for ages at the bar whether for food or drink. The staff are slow and hopeless and the kitchen seems incapable of fulfilling the enticing menu either competently or promptly and sometimes omit basic ingredients or fail miserably to produce multiple purchases symultaneously. This potentially a good place but I can't recommend it until the management and staff get their act together. read more

During our trip home from Plymouth I stopped in a local Londis, purchasing myself some beef and mustard crisps. They fulfilled my appetite and were very tasty... i'd like to say the same about the food within the Seco Lounge, but unfortunately this left me feeling nauseos and somewhat desperate for the exit. Me and my mother wandered into this appealing cafe after a long, rainy and stressful day, hungry and hoping for some...well, edible food. Now we are far from snobbish or arrogant in any way, especially with regards to eating out. We were greeted by a relaxed atmosphere, and some very good music, the staff were friendly enough too. This cafe boasted what looked like a delicious menu, diverse and freshly prepared. After asking for something from the specials menu (which turned out was the only thing they couldn't do... not really a problem as thats to be expected) I asked for a meatball panini which upon the menu eloquently boasted of a spicy tomato sauce, skinny fries and 'butlers secret chedder'. What I had placed infront of me was to my hungry horror, quite the opposite: a flat panini with meatballs that looked and tasted like a combination of cardboard, and chicken that after being attacked by the resident cat was left in the utility room - it didn't even look like meat! The tomato sauce was....non existant, and as for the skinny fries they were certainly skinny, but there was around 7.....or 8 of them at a push. I took one bite of what was supposed to be a meatball and nearly launched the sandwich into my mothers also dissapointed face. Over all, great atmosphere and friendly staff, although i have never had a worse meal out - perhaps I'll try the linguine next time, that looked nice! read more

Hi, Just sitting here at work in Brazil and chatting on video link with my lady in Plymouth, Just wanted to let you know that I will not be frequenting your establishment in the future due to the poor service. I actually met my lady on our first date in Secco but found the service poor. Despite this I went back during my last vacation and received even worse service. When the young lady who is supposedly serving is too busy chatting to her little pal and I have to wait ten minutes to get her attention I feel a little annoyed. Simple solution. I will not be back to be ignored and I will tell all of my friends and aquaintaces of my experience. Should I find any site online which has an opportunity to voice an opinion I will say what I feel. Such a pity that your staff are so useless and lazy. I have travelled the world and found good and bad during my 45 years as a Senior Officer but would expect better from a place in such a prestigious location. Sorry to be so negative but you really need to know the truth Perhaps you should read Tripadvisor as many comments are so negative, they will be more negative shortly after I visit them. Went to this place for a late dinner and checked out the menu. There was nothing but the regular pub food until we found out about the special menu. Two of us ordered the King Prawn Chilli Linguine and two of us Burgers. The Linguine for £11.95 came on a big plate but the portion was very tiny, there were barley a couple of prawns and the amount of pasta was ridicules. The sauce didn't contain chilli at all and only tasted like butter, there wasn't even a hint of wine or lemon to spice the sauce. The Burgers where lower average but the Lamb Burger from the Special Menu for £3 more than the normal Burger didn't stand out at all, the side chips were very small and the coleslaw was laying on a napkin on the plate. When we told the waiter that the portion was ridiculously small he said he's going to talk to the chef and inform us, we haven't heard back from him until we left but we've seen him talking to his colleagues. read more

Yet to prove itself but the signs are good. Opened in about April 2010 in the ground floor of one of the huge impressive buildings of the former Royal William Victualling Yard that for one and a half centuries provided the food and drink for all of the Royal naval ships based at Devonport. Situated right beside the water of small loading basin and with a spectacular view across the wide estuary and back onto the southern end of the dockyard this brasserie has become the trendy new place to drink and snack in the city. Its advantage is its site and the novelty but there are parking and staffing problems. The parking is limited and often full. There are insufficient or maybe badly organised staff at busy times. We have twice had to join a queue of a couple of dozen in order to get a seat or order food or drink and each time were told the 'food wait' was at least an hour. Well decorated and taking full advantage of the impressive building and view, they badly need to sort out the teething troubles or people will be put off. otherwise a welcome arrival. read more
