Michelle set up a meeting with Dagny, where I met Dagny, Mary, and Dagny's foster. It was a match made in heaven. The following week, they dropped Dagny off at her new home, along with her kennel and toys and a good supply of dog food and treats. She is the best thing that has happened to me in a very long time. I am forever grateful. Thank you!

Wow. Where do I begin? I never thought a dog rescue could illicit such a poor taste for humanity…read more These people are absolutely wild. But I digress...adopting a dog is a huge commitment and it requires time, money, and significant thought about the lifestyle changes that such a commitment will make. My sister recently reached out to SSR regarding several dogs after researching extensively and having several chats with the team: she was advised to submit an application, so she did. She reached out to her landlord, references, and local vet to have them on standby because all previous interaction implied the dogs were available and in desperate need of homes. Ironically, 10 days later: no response from the rescue. After following up a 2nd time, we received a very short and dismissive email summarized as saying "sorry dogs aren't available. Best of luck in your search". Since the tone of the entire email was so cold and rude and unlike any previous experience we had with the rescue, we followed up saying in the nicest way possible, that it would have been nice to be looped in sooner and while we understand that they're busy and that the dogs may have happily been adopted, it would have been nice to be informed in a timely fashion so that we could plan accordingly. Apparently, that struck a nerve with SSR (unsure who since no one signs their names). What proceeded was was a series of the most unprofessional and disgusting emails I have ever seen from an organization claiming to do good for the world. It is ironic that they have had time to send multiple hateful, ridiculing, and childish emails when feeling accused of poor business practice and rude tones, but could not even reply to an application in a timely manner with something as simple as "Received. Thank You!" For more than 10 days. In said emails, the "representative" of SSR mocked my sister immediately , called her names, told her she was mentally unstable and that she should consider an emotional support pup (with the implication of good luck to the dog you bring home), as well as telling her that she would be forwarding her personal information to all other rescues in the area so that she would be unable to adopt elsewhere. I have never in my life encountered such a threatening and bullying tone from an organization who is supposedly looking out for the well being of dogs and potential adopters. Aside from mocking mental illness as a whole (which should never be used as a bullying tactic regardless of the situation), this organization threatened to send out HER PERSONAL INFORMATION and email to unauthorized parties simply because she asked them to be more considerate of future adopters time and efforts. WHAT IS WRONG WITH THESE PEOPLE?!?! As a quick sidebar...Let me also summarize our family dog history so you do not think we are a family of psychos who do not understand the dog adoption process. We have grown up with rescues our entire life, namely focusing on challenging dispositions and behavior issues. Our father is a trainer for rescues with behavioral and socialization problems so we have spent plenty of time loving the scared, timid, food aggressive biters, escape artists, etc, etc. I currently have a rescue from an amazing org in NYC and she is becoming a therapy dog and is now being used as a socialization pup for dogs who are struggling with adjustment and dog reactivity. We are a family that knows and loves dogs immensely. We have worked with tons of rescues and rescue dogs of all shapes, sizes and personalities, and never in my life, personal or professional, have I encountered a group of people (or simply one...tough to tell since no one takes personal ownership at SSR), more unkind, combative or rude than these. As I said, adopting a dog is a commitment and a two way street. It is work and it is incredibly rewarding. It's also a huge shame that people like this can so readily ruin an experience that is supposed to be memorable only in the most positive way. Shame on you, SSR. Especially when the world is just needing some kindness and human compassion. PS..I would love to share the entire email chain. It would be wildly funny if it wasn't so alarming that people like this actually exist.

Often times, you see organizations with adoptable animal pictures asking for application, after you submit lengthy application, often you don't hear from them, and animal is no longer available. And since application is needed for each specific animal, you have to go through the process all over again. KK9R is different; they ask for your application to vet you. You can apply for particular animal or general to get approved. They are very thorough about vetting applicants and very responsive. Then, after you get pre-approved, you can visit the animals. Which makes the process more streamlined and efficient. They do great work with local rescues as well as oversea rescues; particularly from south korea. The dogs are adorable and great quality. Some dogs are rescues from puppy mills, that sells to pet shops. They are also very honest about medical history of the dogs, and what to expect. After adoption, they also do follow ups. Spead the word if anyone is looking for furbaby!

Adopting our dog through Korean K9 Rescue was one of the most rewarding and supportive experiences…read more From start to finish, the team showed such care--not just for the dogs, but for the people who adopt them. The adoption process was detailed and thoughtful, with multiple steps that showed how committed KK9R is to ensuring every dog finds the right forever home. After submitting our application, my husband and I had a virtual interview with a trained volunteer who asked meaningful questions about our background and did a virtual home tour to ensure we had a safe space. We also visited weekend adoption events to meet the dogs and learn more about the organization. Once pre-approved, we joined their Patreon to participate in their Foster-to-Adopt program--and that's how we found our Bari. Bari, a sweet 2-year-old Mini Jindo mix, was rescued from a short chain in a rural area near a puppy mill. The rescue arranged for us to foster him short-term, with the option to adopt within five days. From minute one, we fell in love. The support made the Foster-to-Adopt program incredible, especially for me as a first-time dog owner. My husband had experience with rescues, but I didn't, and KK9R ensured I felt confident and equipped every step of the way. I had a direct line of communication with the staff and kept a detailed online diary about Bari's food, medication, energy, temperament, potty habits, and anything else that stood out. The staff used that diary to give us feedback, tips, and encouragement. They helped me understand basic things like how to encourage him up a flight of stairs or how much to feed him, and they were always available to help troubleshoot or celebrate progress. Interacting with the volunteers and staff was fantastic. Everyone was so friendly, kind, and genuinely invested in our success. I grew up with a fear of dogs, and it turns out that many of these pups, including Bari, come with their own fears. The support I received from KK9R helped us feel safe, confident, and ready to build trust with each other. Their care helped me become the kind of dog guardian Bari needed and helped Bari begin to feel secure in his new life. One of the things that sets KK9R apart is its required training program, which ensures every dog and adopter has the foundation they need to thrive. Training is done with professionals with experience working with dogs like Bari--dogs who may not know how to play, lack confidence, have difficulty trusting people, or need help with basic skills like crate training, leash walking, potty habits, and recall. While it may seem like a lot initially, the required sessions are invaluable. The rescue doesn't receive any kickbacks--KK9R just properly vets the trainers to ensure adopters are working with people who truly understand the unique needs of these dogs. We paid upfront at the time of adoption and quickly scheduled five sessions with a trainer who came to our home and worked around our schedule. I started out with zero experience, and those sessions helped lay a strong foundation. Training is a lifelong commitment, and I'm so grateful KK9R sets adopters up for long-term success right from the start. Another incredible part of adopting through KK9R is the rich alumni network. Since bringing Bari home, I've connected with other KK9R adopters in our neighborhood--people like me who welcomed a pup from South Korea into their lives. It's been such a gift. Bari and I have joined other alums and their dogs for pack walks in Prospect Park, dog-themed craft events, and other informal meetups. It's been a wonderful way for the dogs to build confidence and socialize and for the humans to swap stories, share recommendations for gear and services, and be in a community with people who understand the joys and challenges of adopting a rescue pup. I've made dear friendships through this network, and Bari has too. We look forward to every pack walk--it's been one of this journey's most unexpectedly beautiful parts. Because KK9R has given me so much, I knew I wanted to give back. In the spring of 2024, I began volunteering with the organization as a KK9R alum. Signing up was simple, and attending adoption events quickly became a highlight of my weekends. Even the simplest volunteer tasks--helping others learn about the rescue or watching dogs interact with potential adopters--felt incredibly meaningful. I've also conducted virtual interviews with new applicants for the past year. It's been a rewarding way to spend my free time. I enjoy guiding others through the same thoughtful process that helped me find Bari and helping them understand what it takes to form a lifelong, loving bond with a rescue pup. A year and a half later, Bari continues to thrive. He's changed our lives for the better.

They tried to say my pet needed another rabies vaccine (which lasts for 3 years) that he just got last year. I had to be the one to correct them on their false records with absolutely no veterinary experience. The vaccination he WAS due for should have been simple and to the point but of course the staff again gave me the wrong information. The woman I spoke to told me there would be no office visit fee since I had already paid for it my last visit. Two days before the appointment I get a voicemail that they made a mistake and will charge an extra $104 for an office visit on top of the vaccine. When I called to get this sorted out I was given the run around and was asked "what did the lady sound like that you spoke to"? I'm sorry do you want me to reenact her voice to you? I understand that mistakes happen but these were two big blunders on their part and the least they could have done was simply waive the office visit fee. Instead the receptionist was nasty, rude, incompetent, and unprofessional. This place is clearly going down under and hurting for money if they are trying to get you to come in a year later for a vaccine that lasts 3 years. Crooks. Avoid at all costs.

Pre-Script: Search HEAR Long Island on Reddit. I wish had…read more Original Post: I'm a person living with a disability, seeking a non-service companion to join my family with my aging service dog. HEAR was aware of this via my detailed application and references. I reached out to HEAR via PetFinder very interested in a pup, Relish, who appeared to be a good match with my family. I entered the adoption process, got all of my references confirmed, completed a virtual home visit, set a meet time, and was sent additional pics and videos of Relish after the visit--all validating Relish as a potential match. It was a very hopeful and exciting moment. However, in the same text I was informed I was approved for adoption from HEAR, I was also informed Relish was just adopted, within 18 hours of my confirmed meetup. Prior to this, I was not informed I was competing for the match. Had I advance notice, I might've made other arrangements, but I wasn't offered the opportunity or the warning. I've volunteered for and dealt with more than a dozen rescue agencies in my region as an advocate and supporter, as well as several others throughout my childhood. None of the agencies I've worked with have been less transparent than HEAR. No one wants to be in the position of visualizing a potential family member in their lives, and planning for that hopeful first meeting, only to have them cancelled from the equation less than 18 hours before the meet--removed with no notice of other variables.Instead, they sent pics of other dogs. I've requested my adoption application with HEAR be closed, as I would never recommend anyone who wishes to ethically enter a relationship with a rescue rely on HEAR for the availability of the hopeful companion, or transparency in general. Reply to HEAR's response to this post: HEAR says there were delays. HEAR says I'd rather garden?? These are absolute falsehoods. The timeline below is clear. All communications and appointments were honored. May 11, Kristie confirmed my May 10 application and requested documentation of my landlord's permission to have a second dog. May 12, I submitted that documentation. May 14, Kristie apologizes for *her* delay, and informs me she'll be reaching out to my three references. All references responded the same day, after I let them know to check their "unknown numbers" folder. Friday, May 15, at 7:28pm, a virtual home visit is requested by Kristie. I was already on my farmstead for the weekend--I detailed the farmstead in my application. I let Kristie know I was upstate, and offered to FaceTime from there or when I got back home. She said she'd wait. I proposed a meet time, but Kristie said it could happen whenever, to just text her when I'm home, that she'd be "around." I texted Monday, May 18 to make arrangements. We set it for the next day, May 19. The virtual visit happened with her partner, Sam, because Kristie was unavailable when I texted. During that meeting, an appointment was made to specifically meet Relish on May 23 at the HEAR event. Prior to the arranged meet date, I inquired of its flexibility because planting became a factor--planting is absolutely critical and 100% dependent on weather and climate. Sam responded that probably wouldn't work. So, I CONFIRMED the original meet time. I very clearly confirmed my motivation and intent to meet and spend time with this specific sweet boy, Relish. Still, he was adopted out from under me. NOT ONCE was I informed there were other applicants for him. Not once were any other factors or obstacles to adopting Relish mentioned. And not once did I miss any appointments or communications. I've dealt with much more honest and ethical agencies. It's HEAR's opaque practices that might hurt their ability to adopt, not this honest review. Post-Script: Sam even mentioned she didn't want to leave Relish alone at night with her dogs, because "god forbid something happen." Apparently, that was a legitimate risk as per Reddit. It's absolutely shocking that injury to fosters is still a risk they take.

She's a small black bundle of love who has quickly become the heart of my apartment. When I first met her, Koka was a bit shy and timid, but with a little patience and love she's completely come out of her shell. She now goes potty outside, plays fetch, sits on command, and absolutely loves playing with her toys. She's affectionate, kind, and brings so much joy to my life every day. I first saw her on Muddy Paws' Facebook page and instantly fell in love. When I went to meet her at their clean and welcoming HQ, I was so impressed by how organized and caring everyone was. Manesha, her foster, did a fantastic job introducing me to Koka and sharing all the details about her personality and routine. Racheal, the founder, personally walked me through the adoption paperwork -- she was knowledgeable, kind, and completely transparent about the process. It's clear that Muddy Paws Rescue truly cares about every dog and every adopter. They made the entire experience smooth, warm, and deeply meaningful. I would highly recommend Muddy Paws Rescue to anyone thinking about adopting and saving a life. Koka and I are both so grateful!
