Imagine having an extremely serious medical condition that your primary care practitioner failed to recognize, did not take seriously and took no effective action to address. If your primary care practitioner happens to be Elissa Mullen, ND, this scenario is a distinct possibility, or at least it was for me when she mis-diagnosed a cancerous tumor the size of a plumb in the back of my throat for a case of tonsilitis. Out of concern regarding the symptoms I had been experiencing all summer, I scheduled an appointment in September with Dr. Mullen, my primary care practitioner. After describing the symptoms to her, she initially attributed them to my orthodontic aligners. However, after visually examining the back of my throat she said my left tonsil was the largest she had ever seen and proscribed antibiotics for what she told me was likely a case of tonsilitis. After completing two rounds of antibiotics, I retuned a couple of weeks later and again, she prescribed antibiotics. At neither visit did she take a swab to test her theory nor suggest that I see a specialist. Finally realizing that I needed real medical care, I found Dr. Grace Wandell, a throat specialist at Swedish Hospital on my own. But because I had to self-refer, I had to wait weeks for the appointment instead of days had my primary care practitioner made the referral. As soon as I opened my mouth, Dr. Wandell recognized my tumor for what it was, taking biopsies to confirm what her trained and experienced eyes told her instantly. As I see it, the purpose of a primary care practitioner is to serve as your medical sentinel to flag potential health risks--If she can't even do that, then what meaningful protection do you have? read more

I'm sharing this review to help others avoid the same frustration. Don't waste your time or money. I saw Dr. Mullen last year after being told that my insurance would be accepted. I provided my recent blood work, but she dismissed it because it didn't include the reference ranges and suggested I redo the exact same tests. During the appointment, she spent more time talking about her own experience with my condition than offering any real advice or solutions. At my follow-up appointment (which wasn't necessary since she couldn't identify the issue or offer a solution), there was still no clear plan of action. Instead, she provided completely unrelated insights, which I quickly dismissed since I had a PCP appointment scheduled and decided to move on. I agree with several of the reviews. She pushes the semaglutide program without determining if your health situation is compatible with the program guidelines. She has the attention span of an agitated monkey. Most of her conversational diversions are about her clothes, new washer/dryer, her shoes, her vacations, etc. After I signed up for the semaglutide program ( only 10 lbs to lose), I went home and checked up on the program and its guidelines. I found out that I'm not a candidate because of my age, osteoporosis and GI problems. Going to a naturopath, I expected a more natural approach, like diet suggestions, nutritional supplements etc. After checking, I called to cancel the program and receive my $2450 back. I was told that the doctor would have to be consulted. I waited two weeks for a reply and then decided to go to the office and discuss my refund. I met her husband, Riley , and was told I could not get a refund until they sold the semaglutide program to another client and received the money to pay me. That really disturbed me to hear that they were apparently operating on a shoestring. So I immediately contacted my credit card company and opened a credit card dispute. Let me start off with, Dr. Elissa Mullen is NOT a licensed Medical Doctor nor has the credentials to support various level of medical services. She is a naturopath...that is it! She claims that she takes various medical insurance. This is misleading as most medical insurance companies do not cover naturopathic services. Therefore, the odds are pretty high that seeing her and any so-called services she provides you is out-of-pocket! From my experience and other patient reviews. AVOID her!! See a professional doctor! I had a previous naturopath for years that I LOVED but we moved:-( I found Elissa Mullen in Sept 2019 as she was close to my home and did not take the time to look at any reviews on Elissa Mullen. BIG Mistake! My first appointment with Elissa, at the time I thought she was quirky but overlooked it. I was a patient of hers for the past 5 years. Though, primarily the services I had purchased were only performed by her nurse. I have interacted with Elissa maybe 4-5 times in 5 years. Until 16 Feb 2024 when I went in to get reactivated on the services I had been receiving for 5 years (which are out-of-pocket). Elissa Mullen is pushing her Semaglutide Program on to her patient without any patient medical background. She does not have any patient blood work or any health record information to substantiate a medical need for her to prescribe this program. In addition, she only discloses the basic health side effects (nausea, fatigue, stomach pain, gas). No matter how many times you ask her for more serious side effect information. To top it off the program cost $2,500.00 "NON-REFUNDABLE". Which she never mentions that Semaglutide Program "NON-REFUNDABLE" during the appointment or at time of payment. Nor is "non-refundable" listed on the pamphlet or the invoice. NOTE: The Bio-Impedance is all Elissa seems to use as medical measure of your health, which is always broken. BUT you get changed for this service in the program even when you don't receive the service! Trying to get a refund is futile, even when disputing the charges with your credit card as Riley Mullen "CFO ofSeattle Wellness Program" (Elissa's husband) will rebuttal any dispute as "Buyers Remorse" even if you canceled the service within less then business hours, along with never receiving the services purchased. So, if you feel like throwing your money away and receive ABSOLUTLY NOTHNG. Elissa Mullen and her husband Riley Mullen CFO of Seattle Wellness Programs will happily TAKE your money to go on another cruise! I also became aware Elissa J. Mullen has been fined for prescribing controlled substances without a license. My experience with Dr. Mullen was awful. She is incredibly condescending and constantly talks over you during appointments, never giving you a chance to explain your concerns. The advice she gave me turned out to be very wrong, and after visiting another clinic, I learned that this clinic has had lawsuits filed against it and engages in practices that are borderline illegal. I strongly urge anyone considering this clinic to take a moment and read all the reviews. You'll see a pattern--most people who come here have a terrible experience, just like I did. Her very first words to me were, "are you going to be noncompliant the whole time?" It only got worse from there. All I wanted was an ADHD screening. Instead, I was verbally assaulted for not wanting to get on the scale. They took my blood pressure while wondering aloud if it was a faulty blood pressure cuff, were confused when it was sky high, took one look at my body, my weight, and my blood pressure and assumed I was having a heart attack right then and there. Literally. Instead of testing with another cuff, they kept me for over an hour, measuring my ankles with a tape measure and making sure I wasn't having a heart attack. On a faulty blood pressure cuff. From stress they caused. Because of weight shaming. Because I didn't want to step on the scale. "Is there a medical reason to do so? I have blood work results and no medical issues." "Because I'm the doctor, and I say so." She perpetually tried to shame me into silence and compliance. Gross. Again, all I wanted was an ADHD screening. Right then and there, the "doctor" should have noted that SHE IS NOT AN M.D. and that it would be beyond her scope. Again, SHE IS NOT AN MD. Instead, the "doctor" recommended I tape my mouth closed at night. "I'm not crazy," she reminded me over and over, as she told me I could just duct tape my mouth closed and that THAT would help me overcome my debilitating depression and ADHD symptoms. I only learned that she was NOT an MD after finding her violations on the WA Department of Health website for prescribing medications that were totally outside her purview to prescribe. She did not disclose to me that she could not do what I was looking for. She also did not wear a mask while in the patient room with me. Whatever our individual beliefs about masks, that is a violation of current health standards in WA. She clearly does not care about what she's allowed to do. She'll do what she wants. She did not listen to, or respect me. She interrupted me repeatedly and refused my attempts to correct her assumptions about me. All she saw was my body weight and that I'm tired, and she jumped to absolutely wild conclusions. With zero data, zero testing, NOTHING, she decided my pituitary gland wasn't working properly (while pointing to my frontal lobe and admitting she knew nothing about the brain), and that my hormones were off, and that I had sleep apnea, and that if I just take some LDN, everything would be fine. "I've got the whole office on it!" She then handed me a booklet SHE WROTE about the benefits of what she was telling me to do. She then handed me a booklet teaching me how to do push-ups and lunges AFTER I shared all the weightlifting, functional body movement, and walking I do to commute - I don't even own a car. Walking is my transportation. Even after I shared how much I loved yoga, and about the community sports I play and how active I am. Even after I told her how much weight is been stigmatized even though my DEXA scans and blood work are perfectly healthy. She still thought, "Teach her how to do lunges. That'll help." Like I don't know!? Offensive. So offensive. I cried the entire visit. Her intern seemed genuinely caring, but the doctor was so condescending, so painfully apathetic to my entire existence. I fear that the conclusions she jumps to could be truly disastrous for patients with serious concerns, and that her bias against ADHD and weight were seriously problematic for me. When going to Dr Mullen for the prognoses I had, I thought I would be on the medication only for a few months. I was on it for 2 years and they expected me to get a blood draw 1x a week which made me feel this was a way to get more money. Even though the staff was nice, Dr. Mullens came off very abrubt and rude. When my primary doctor asked me to find out what was in the tincture and I went to ask, Dr. Mullens made a scene when I went over to ask and never got the ingredients. I received a letter in the mail dismissing me from the office since I was not taking the medication enough. Even though the center is very convenient, Dr Mullen is very unprofessional. I made changes and two months after seeing her, I got pregnant and stayed pregnant! She looked at my whole picture and listened to me. I will forever be grateful for her! Dr. Mullen gave me a medication adjustment recommendation based on thyroid bloodwork. This may seem hard to believe, but she actually went back and forth several times aloud wondering if I should stop my medication completely, cut it in half, or increase it. I felt uneasy at her guessing, but trusted her, and she suggested cutting it in half. In fairness to the doctor, I had expressed that it was a goal of mine to eventually get off my thyroid medication, but no doctor should ever cut a patient's necessary medication for their thyroid simply because a patient wants to eventually be healed. This change caused a severe and persistent headache immediately, and it caused my TSH level to nearly triple (a negative thing) to a level it had never been at before in the two years I had been having my thyroid levels monitored by a different doctor. Dr. Mullen called me and essentially said "My mistake! Go back to what you were doing before immediately!" Obviously, I never returned. I have since reviewed my bloodwork from before and after the medication change with two GP's, both of whom were completely horrified at Dr. Mullen's recommendation. The inflammation from this abrupt change to my thyroid function still has not subsided, and I have had a pressure headache every day since that medication change. I have been to the doctor countless times trying various steroids, drugs, natural remedies, etc. for the pain to no avail. I now have to meet with an endocrinologist and a neurologist since I have had the headache for over two months. I have felt very hesitant to write this review, as I found Dr. Mullen to be a very lovely and kind person, who struck me as very well intentioned. However, my conscious has finally weighed on me as I would never want someone to suffer the pain (and medical bills) that have resulted in trying to correct her mistake. I do feel bad for writing so negatively about someone, but I am very concerned for my health and the recovery from this remains unclear as I write this. I feel it's my responsibility to warn others who are seeking healing. For additional context, every follow up appointment I had with Dr. Mullen, she asked me about my "stomach pain." I never had stomach pain, never complained of this in any way, and she acknowledged it was her mistake and that the staff had told her the wrong thing. However, this continual mixup became concerning when a different medication change she recommended gave me chest pain (not saying that was her fault), I made an appointment regarding this specifically, and she asked again about my stomach pain. read more

This 'Doctor' spent 15 minuets with me and told me that kids in West Seattle would make fun of my son because his mother is fat. (I'm a size 14-16.) I was then ushered out and 2 people tried to bully me into buying their weight loss supplements. I was then charged almost $400 dollars for this consultation after declining to pay for the chemical laced substances. No one ever quoted me a price for this appointment but I would have gladly paid for quality guidance and advice. Don't go see this woman but if you do tell her she's too old to wear skirts that short. read more

Dr. Mullen and her staff provide excellent patient care along with amazing customer service. She has been my PCP for the past 10 months and I have seen her for numerous issues. The drive from north Seattle is more than worth it. Her and her assistant, Maria, are attentive, thorough and caring. Kim, her admin person, is an excellent communicator and returns calls or emails promptly. This is solely a complaint about charges and services. Although I had some other runnings with the staff there too. I was prescribed a very expensive mold test $300. It was not their fault it took nearly 2 months to get the results for I was in much anguish and unhappiness due to my condition . Before the test results even came in she prescribed me another expensive treatment for that another $300 . After calling to see if the test had finally come in as I got an email saying that they were finally done I called and asked to see what the results were, imagine my surprise when I was billed $45 for talking on the phone about the results of the test that I paid $600 for . Maybe you should've made them information a little more available before I even called you, maybe you should've suggested where I could find out the results for myself. I met Dr. Mullen a little over a year ago to begin the HCG diet. She was very knowledegable about metabolism and weight loss. I started the diet and began losing weight, but slower than I had expected so at my follow-up appointment, I told her about my suspicions of having a thyroid disorder but that for almost 24 years all the doctors I had seen had tested my blood and said I was fine...but I knew I wasn't. I listed all my symptoms (of low thyroid) and when I said that I was always freezing and that I really meant freezing because my core body temperature was on only 96 degrees, she said it sounded like Wilson's syndrome and that she could treat me. I began to tear up and she said I could go home and research it and if it sounded like me, I could set up an appointment for bloodwork. I went home and it fit me to a tee! FINALLY...a doctor who believed me and cared about me! I can't tell you how many doctors had told me it was all in my head! Dr. Mullen began treating me for Wilson's syndrome and my body temperature is now up to 98 degrees and we're still working. I have continued on the hCG diet and have lost 110 pounds (and still counting). I have about 15-20 pounds to go and I've never felt better in my life! Dr. Mullen has also diagnosed an adrenal gland problem and has treated me for that and my anxiety and depression are completely gone and I no longer need to take medication! I owe my life to her! If you have been looking for a doctor that truly cares about the health and well being on you and want to finally live your life the way you want, then you should give her a call! I recently bought a groupon for their thermage treatment, and ended up refunding it after my consultation with them. It was advertised as 50% off the original price (I paid 975) and for that you could get the latest thermage technology for one area. I read through all the fine print, the area I wanted was covered, so I purchased. At my consultation, I was told that the groupon deal is more of a "try me" offer and that you only get 400 pulses for your money, whereareas a full treatment would be 1200 pulses, you share your tip (and pulses) with 2 other clients so they have to schedule you all back to back, but for every extra $500 you give them you can up your pulses until you finally are just paying the full price for the full deal. So essentially, what they're offering you is to pay half price for 1/3 of the product. And share your tip, which from everything I've read online isn't even proper procedure.
