During a very painful and stressful time, I am always astounded by the patience, kindness, and professionalism of the ED staff. I wanted to ensure that each and every individual who assisted me is recognized for their utmost dedication. Please pass along my sincere thanks to: * Front Desk Admission: Shannon and Jen - for their warm and efficient check-in. * Nursing Staff: Mike, Melissa, Baonie, Emily for their incredible compassion and pain management. * Physician Assistant: - Tyler James Ogden for explaining my diagnosis so clearly and follow up for Ortho Surgeon * Radiologist/X-Ray Tech: Tammy- for being so gentle during a painful procedure. * Transport Assistant: Aman- for getting me safely and kindly where I needed to go. Dr. Ramanathan will perform a total hysterectomy without your knowledge or consent Falsified the…read morediagnosis, up coded it behind my back I had a deeply troubling experience with the UWMC OB/GYN Roosevelt- Dr. Aparna Ramanathan that I feel compelled to share as a warning to others. Proceed with extreme caution if considering any gynecological procedures here, especially hysterectomies. They skipped basic standard-of-care steps, like performing necessary imaging beforehand, which could have caught issues or confirmed the need for surgery. Instead, I felt medically gaslighted--my concerns were dismissed, and the full scope of the procedure wasn't transparently explained. Despite final pathology reports showing no cancer, tumors, disease, or any medical justification, (only clinical guesses) they removed my uterus and cervix without properly informing me in advance. This wasn't just an oversight; it feels like a loophole they've exploited, leading to irreversible damage including incontinence and pelvic floor dysfunction that have drastically impacted my quality of life. The informed consent process was inadequate--doctors didn't clearly disclose that the cervix would be removed as part of a "total" hysterectomy, even when it wasn't warranted. Always, always get a second opinion from an independent provider before agreeing to anything. Request a witness or have someone present at all appointments and during consent discussions to ensure everything is documented accurately. Be sure to read your own records thoroughly--progress notes, informed consent forms, and any imaging reports (if they even bother to do them). Don't let them rush you; demand transparency and hold them accountable. I wish I'd known this sooner to avoid the lifelong consequences. avoid if possible!!! Especially Chad (floor 16) who was our primary day nurse. He is exceptional! I gave 4 stars because I do think doctors and specialists could benefit from refresher on bedside manner. It is not what they say, it's how they say it. Patients are human beings who are doing their best and instead of going straight into lectures, how about seeking to understand them first.

Even multiple current doctors have confirmed this. Example: My wife and I have been patients at Virginia Mason for 37 years. Just recently my wife's primary care provider pulled back from full-time work. Because she wasn't completely off the payroll, according to the MBAs and accountants, she was not offered an MD, PA, or ARNP as a replacement...only the choice of 1 of 4 residents. We will, with sadness, both be leaving. VIRGINIA MASON IS BROKEN. STAY AWAY!

Joshua is probably the first doctor I've found in my life that I can be completely comfortable with talking to about anything and everything. He never makes me feel judged whatever the topic may be and he engages with my interest in deeply understanding my own health metrics and current science and research in an evidence based way. I've found other doctors be annoyed or dismissive when a patient wants to ask questions about their own theories and learn about health and their bodies along the way. Joshua is always patient and willing to talk through things. He genuinely tries to stay at the leading edge of developments and is often aware of new treatments or protocols as soon as they are available, but is also humble enough to be open to learning about things that may not have crossed his radar yet. He has more than once made himself available specially for me when something needed handling and schedules with travel or work were making it difficult. Working with Joshua feels like a genuine partnership on my health and he's helped talk me through concerns about certain medication types that I was hesitant to try but ultimately resulted in some of my health markers being better than they have ever been in my life. If you're LGBT and you get the chance to work with Josh -- just do it. He's a member of a dying breed that we desperately need more of and you would be privileged to be under his care.

And when he moved from VM to Capitol Hill Medical I followed along. Now I happily drive over an hour from my new place to visit him (fortunately this is only needed once or twice a year since we are able to handle most things through Telehealth and portal messages). He's always been super great about listening to my particular concerns, collaborating with me on my care needs, asking what terminology I use for anatomy, and has been super non-judgemental and actually supportive and informative on some of the more difficult topics. A huge difference from most of the medical practitioners I've encountered in the past! I will continue making the trek to see Josh as long as he's still in practice.

My old…read moredoc at the Polyclinic, Hatfield, has moved on from general care and is into a more specialized kind of patient, so I opted on using someone else there, Kelly Thompson. In person, she looks nothing like her profile picture on the Polyclinic site; she walked into the exam room with her colorful tattoos and a sundress, and I was immediately more comfortable. Normally my social anxiety around beautiful people would kick in, but she was super personable, and actually listened to me. A mentor of mine once told me that "if you listen to your patients, actually listen, they will give you the keys to the castle". She actually did, and she stated that I needed to get a diagnostic ultrasound, STAT. When that came back negative for what we were looking for, she even sent me back for another. Eventually we determined the diagnosis, and while there is no immediate solution to my issues, the understanding of what is going on with me has reduced my stress levels. Dr. Thompson is the kind of doctor I wish I knew outside of the doctor - patient relationship... wait, that sounds creepy! What i mean to say is that she's a great balance of "human" and "professional", and I'll choose her each time going forward. She seems genuinely interested in her patients, and as a huge bonus to her, loves dogs, not just her own.

Dr. Candelario is an absolutely wonderful physician- patient, professional, and kind to our son (who is a bit of a screamer when it comes to anticipated vaccines). He's been a comforting presence as we've figured out our way through two years of covid with a young child and I'm just so sorry that he, and all other medical professionals, have born such a burden. We almost didn't pick this clinic as I gave birth in a different hospital system and thought it might be easier to just stay there. When we asked the neonatal nurses their opinion, however, they highly recommended Virginia Mason university village (as did three of my colleagues). I'm so glad we stuck with that advice. It's such a relief to know your kid is in good hands. Ps: the nurses on their hotline are also consistently fantastic and have offered so much important advice from early issues (tear duct infection, weight loss) to our recent covid episode. I cannot recommend this clinic, and especially Dr. Candelario, enough.

I'm adding this review for another experience. My two kids have been coming here since birth on the recommendation of a friend. At this point, I think we've seen all of the doctors and had excellent medical care. My concerns are listened to with kindness, empathy, and understanding. Everything is explained in a respectful way. We've been there for colds, viruses, alllllll the Covid tests during the pandemic, broken bones, pneumonia, mental health concerns, and more complicated problems. There is an in-house xray machine, radiologist, bloodwood, vaccine clinic, and probably more. The front desk staff have been friendly. The lobby and medical rooms are clean and comfortable. The location is easy access and we love grabbing lunch or coffee after a doctor's appointment.

All the doctors, nurses and therapists who work here are total professionals, so basically I just kicked back and enjoyed the ride. I was actually worried for no reason, although I admit I had some anxiety on surgery day. I was first on the schedule, but before I knew it I was in the recovery room, and then in my regular room watching baseball and the People's Court while recuperating nicely in my very comfortable bed. Thank God I had insurance. The whole process was seamless, and my share of the entire procedural costs was extremely reasonable, and I have no problems going here again or recommending them to anyone who needs hip replacement surgery or any other serious medical need. They really do care, and I saw nothing but patient-centered concern at every level. Even the food was delicious, and no, it's not served on a boot-camp style aluminum tray. They have their own restaurant, and you get to order off a real menu like you were eating out. I won't hesitate to go to Swedish again, and I know another surgery is coming up.
