My niece and nephew attended their pre-k school, and based on their results we decided to enroll our son there too. Best decision we could have made. The teachers are patient, kind, gentle yet firm, and very professional with years of teaching experience. They sing songs and read stories in the beginning with all the classes then separate to their separate classes. They request parent volunteers but are very understanding if parents cannot. My son didn't just thrive in this school, he blossomed! His art skills have skyrocketed, his love of reading and learning and singing have soared, he struggles with math but is very interested in the concept tries to learn on his own. He's learned to persevere during challenging projects and learned to solve problems. He's become so cooperative and social, and loves his "jobs" at school (line leader is his favorite now). Their goal is to have the pre-k kids reading at a 1st to 3rd grade level and have them as prepared for kindergarten as they possibly can. There are two parent-teacher conferences per year where they discuss problem areas and successes and they're always available to answer questions and address concerns at any time. They have homework assignments each friday (due on wednesday) which for us as parents was challenging, but it's not much. At the end of the year, they hand back the homework in a binder along with the year's art projects - we haven't seen ours yet, but I'm excited. We are not religious, but my 4 year old son has taken the lead to bring prayer and songs of a loving God into our home, to tell us bible stories he's learned and to teach us the songs. We really cannot say enough about this fantastic establishment. I highly recommend this school.

I spent a long time looking for a church that was God centered and rightly guided and frankly while no church is perfect, this church was perfect for us. We help out with sound, lights and projection on the odd Sunday or we sit in the second row, feel free to come and visit and find my husband and I. I would love to do church with you and introduce you to my pastors Andy, Brian and Abel, who are some of the best spiritual leaders I have had the pleasure of meeting. If you want a church that is perfect, has all the best people, only sings the songs you like and gives sermons that won't offend you or challenge you then this is not the place for you.... Our daughter (now a Senior) could not have found a more welcoming and caring school community. The education and instruction from her teachers and the administration is and has consistently been top notch. KCHS took my daughter as a freshman and helped form her into a strong, respectful and caring leader. Side note: She started 2 new sports (swim & water polo) her freshman year and is now team captain of both for her senior year. This is not because she is the best or most popular on the teams but because hard work, respect and support of your teammates is also appreciated.

I am considered as a Catholic coming home after X amount of years away from the church. Initially, I started going to Sunday mass 2-3X in a month. Then, I finally broke down realizing that the Catholic Church was calling for me to be back home. With the help of the helpful and friendly staff at the church, I was able to go to my Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults (RCIA) in 11/2014. During the 9-month long class, I was able to learn the very basic knowledge about the Catholic Church. The longer I stayed with the program, the more I knew that it was meant to be. On Easter Vigil, I finished my remaining sacrament in order to be accepted into the church. You know , Father Dick Hyatsu is amazing with his charisma and energy. You can see his happiness when he serves the community of St Francis. He is awesome at explaining his homily at mass, and he is so easy to talk to. The community at this church is very amazing! I have made so many friends since then. Everyone is very generous and easy to get along with. I'm very happy to be a part of this wonderful Catholic Church!

Midway Elementary has two of the best playgrounds in DesMoines! A fantastic overall facility, and sits right next-door to Mt. Rainer HS's facility,track, pools, gym, tennis courts & more. I'd say that if my kids weren't in private school, they'd be in this school, for sure. (p.s. I've heard a lot of positive feedback from parents who's kids actually go here!)
