Next trip I shall return to Grant Hall.

I wanted to be able to walk around the old downtown, so this hotel's location was perfect. The decor in the lobby is lovely and draws attention to the character that comes with being an older building. The halls were a little dingy in parts, but not dramatically so. The elevator was small but always came quickly. My room was a clean and had a good-sized bathroom and surprising large refrigerator. The floor looked like it had been recently replaced with a laminate-type faux-wood (possibly because I was in one of the dog-friendly rooms?) but it seemed like it hadn't been measured properly, because there were some gaps between the planks. The parking lot is located behind the building next-door, so you enter and exit through a side door. This was slightly confusing when I checked in, but wasn't an issue after that. I didn't try the on-site restaurant, but I did notice that people staying elsewhere (and locals) seemed to be eating there, so maybe I should have given it a go. Overall, a nice solid character hotel in a convenient location!

Capone's Hideaway Motel - Bed, microwave, mini fridge, TV

The room remained 24 degrees warm all night, (I'm just going by feel, since the thermostat had no cover on it) despite it being chilly outside, and having two windows open. (Neither window had a screen)The tv didn't work(for me)--apparently you have to push two buttons and be sure you're close enough to connect. Also there was no table lamp, so my choice was to either have all the lights blaring at me or darkness. There was a microwave, a fridge, a desk, two end tables but no coffee pot, no cups or glasses, to drink from. The floor had one of those restaurant carpets that are impossible to determine how dirty they are. And yes, from the night before, to when we did checkout to see if I'd get my damage deposit check back, I mentioned all of these items to the management, so if they read this there should be no surprises. I also mentioned the grime on the door and when she explained that it was the colour of the paint, I couldn't help myself and got a wad of toilet paper, wetted it, and demonstrated that it was NOT the colour of the paint. On the positive, the bed looked and smelled clean and I left all my luggage up on the several table spaces. I paid around 82 dollars and felt vaguely ripped off. I think they should be embarrassed to charge that. Nothing a good cleaning wouldn't fix. And hopefully they will fix it. Then it might be worth 82 dollars and change.

Let's see - where to begin....always start with the positive. The antique car on the motel sign is…read morecool! Location is dope! That's it! Be leary when registering as the front desk clerk has you sign the registration card in pencil; room was very outdated; air conditioner rattled very loudly; lamp shades broken; shower leaked; faucet handle in the bathroom pulled right off (clerk laughed and said to me "Oh well, I didn't charge you a damage deposit"); holes in the sheets; pillows were pancakes; towels were very rough; no fan in the bathroom; ad claims two double beds but in the room we stayed in, one was a queen and one was a full; paint chipping on the walls and ceiling in the bathroom; ice build up in freezer; provided dishes/pots and pans for cooking but provided no utensils to cook with; no fitted sheets on the beds; pull out knob to turn on shower was missing. Good thing I was called back to Winnipeg because I did not want to stay another night. Unfortunately I have to agree with Kelly L (2017-08-14) that they will not refund you EVEN after giving proper notice. DO NOT STAY HERE! There are way way better places to stay in Moose Jaw! Capone's is the epitome of you get what you pay for!
