Excellent shop! I have had many people recommend this place to me, and I will be continuing that…read moretradition. A great selection, floor to ceiling packed with a great variety of wines. I'm always on the look out for a good Portuguese wine (and Port wine) section and this place clearly has a few carefully selected gems, was very happy with what I found there. We've been very happy with the Douro wines we've picked up here, as well as some excellent LBV and Tawny Ports, from the better but more obscure vineyards, which is always refreshing. The staff are very friendly and so helpful, they really know their stuff and the best part about it is there's nothing pretentious about this place at all! Just good wine and good people, you can't ask for more!

It's official - I have found the source of all my future wine-related purchases. The Corkscrew is…read morethe BEST wine stockist I have ventured into thus far in my Dublin meanderings. Why, you ask? Well, firstly because they have the most incredible range of wine from all over the world. They even stock my favourite label from Western Australia, Vasse Felix, which I've not found ANYWHERE else in Ireland. Secondly, their staff are wonderful. They are not the haughty, pretentious types you might expect to find in such an establishment. Oh no, they take the time to talk to every customer who enters the store, ask about their wine preferences, suggest future purchases for the expansion of the customer's palate, and discuss wines previously purchased and liked/disliked. Chris, a lovely guy from the UK, spoke to me while I was in store, and while I'm by no means a wine connoisseur, or a bulk-buyer, he still took the time out to find out about the kind of vino I like to drink. From there he formed a kind of 'career trajectory' for my wine tastes, based on what I drink now and what I should be trying. I found him incredibly helpful and not at all dismissive of my 'bargain bin' level of wine knowledge. While I was in the store I heard the other sales assistant speaking to a woman who'd had a less than amicable experience with her last purchase. They discussed the reasons for her not enjoying that particular bottle (these things happen, everyone has different tastes), and he made suggestions on wines that might provide her with an experience more to her liking. The fact that she came back to the store and trusted these guys to advise her on her next purchase really says something about the level of service provided here. So you see, at The Corkscrew, wine, as life, is about the journey, not the destination, it's about branching out and trying something new and it's not about sticking to the tried and true (although, in fairness to these guys, they have tried nearly every bottle in store). If you want a wine merchant who will know you by name, and who in less than 10 minutes will be able to diagnose your particular drinking condition and provide you with the remedy, make The Corkscrew your off-licence of choice.

On the hunt for a certain miraculous Shriaz (on my Must Find list since our favourite wine shop…read morestopped stocking it) I hopped on the LUAS for a look at Enowine. This dedicated IFSC vintner (not surprisingly) takes their stock very seriously. The attached bistro features a menu that leans heavily on pairings for structure, but it's all done so elegantly. Here, selecting the vintages you'd like a taste of is always done with care. Throw €20 on one of their in house wine cards and you'll buy a few sips of practically anything in the shop. With a little assistance I was able to pinpoint a country (Australia) and a region (Victoria) that made wines I loved to taste... but maybe I shouldn't have been so disappointed to find the bottle I was really looking for wasn't here. My search continues...

I do however love the fresh veg and organic selection of sauces etc that as someone with allergies to food items or additives I have a hard time finding the healthy options. I can find it here. I cannot however find it in the food they serve here. Not much is GF including the soup so eating here is problematic. I usually have a coffee while my mum or sister eats and I watch. Fun, not. The owners are nice and friendly. They have a good wine selection and you can even bottle your own from the casket if you wish. I find the wine over priced so not a win here I'm afraid. It is difficult to find parking and it can be crazy at certain hours like breakfast lunch etc so I avoid these times. I'm putting an addition as this summer all prices went up 20 percent. When I asked staff about it they justified it by saying they had no increases in a few year's. When I mentioned the worst recession in history they were dismissive. This does not impress me. You're still sitting in a deli it's not a restaurant yet it is more expensive than one and no waiters.

On then to Nectar, a new wine shop... well, I thought it was and then realised I hadn't been in Sandyford Village for quite some time... Nectar has been here for all of 4 years now. The shop boasts an impressive array of wines, not really concentrating on any particular country or region but has a healthy new world selection and while rooting through the shelves found something I deem to be quite exciting - a fortified Australian shiraz (Kalleske), effectively an Australian Port. At 25Euro a bit pricey for an impulse buy but I will certainly be back before Christmas go grab one or two! John Behind the counter is great, he knows his stuff and willing to entertain any silly question put forth by short, fat balding blokes.

And to my delight I had a choice of three varieties and have settled for 'Roger & Didier' Raimbault. A few months later I notice the owner started up a wine club and has several wine tasting events where you can sample the various wines on offer. I look forward to the weekly emails of the special offers and the review of the wines for that week. With four Bridgestones Awards in the bag John McGrath the owner of Nectar Wines, knows his wines extremely well and will recommend a wine that will suit your mood on weather that be for cooking, dinning or relaxing with and has a friendly and cheerful manner to boot for all of his customers. With exception he has some jems that do come in and I have to admit I now have some favorites that I must have in my own wine rack, a Georgian wine 'Mukuzani' and Chilean 'Reserva Casas Patronales'. Since I wrote this Review, Nectar Wines has moved Premises, but have not moved far only two doors down from where they where based.

What I loved, was what tea they served. I didn't say anything apart from a word "tea" when ordered my "burgwich". What I've got was a leaf loose tea in a pot, not some "Indian road dust" AKA Barry's or Lyons tea. No offence Irish, but them teas are a byproduct when making decent tea, let's just say left overs. Basically what I'm saying - quality tea there.
