Tommy and Harborside Cycle are the best! We were in Alpena on Saturday , visiting the area, and…read moredecided to do some cross country skiing. Not having any equipment with us, we found Harborside Cycle & Sport online. The Saturday hours were only 10 am until 2 pm. When we told Tommy that we wanted to go cross country skiing, but there was no way we would be back before the store closed. He was so nice. He gave us his cell phone number and told us to call him when we were back in town, he would meet us at the store. We were able to get a full day of skiing in without rushing. I made a call to Tom at Harborside, who seemed to be of the opinion that boxing a bike is not a trivial job. I liked that, because it wanted it done carefully. I arranged with Harborside Cycle that I would drop off on Saturday and that during the following week they would box and ship the bike. The handoff process on Saturday was very careful and deliberate. The workers in the shop made completely sure that they had multiple phone numbers for me and even for a second, emergency contact person -- they wanted to be sure the bike got to me no matter what! The bike was packed and shipped exactly when Tom predicted it would be. Unpacking it at home, I found that Harborside had painstakingly padded everyplace where two parts might have banged together, using zip ties to secure the padding as needed. They also had deftly used the special bike packing shields and pads that bike makers use when they box bikes. As it turned out, UPS treated this box pretty gently, but it was packed so well that it probably could have survived a lot of abuse.
