I think it is essential that everyone in this city should become familiar with Seagulls.
Next to the Scrap Refuse Centre off Kirkstall Road in a warehouse/workshop building, there is a place called Seagulls that sells second hand paint. And when I say paint, I mean any kind of pain imaginable. Tins of unfinished paint are donated by people and companies, so their stock is unbelievable varied, in colour, size, type and, of course, brand. You can find all types of different tins of paint and varnish here. Because the stock is all pre-used, it is incredibly cheap, costing sometimes as little as £3 for a large 3/4 full tin of wall paint!
Rows and rows of used tins are shelved and are browsable, but I do recommend you ask the staff if you know precisely what it is you are after. They are knowlegable in uses for certain kinds of paint, i.e. what will work for obscurer jobs, but most importantly, they know the layout of their shop and what they have in, better than you could if you spent a full day in there.
So if you need anything painting, from a canvas, to a wall, to wood, a radiator, a swing, come down, definitely before you head off to B&Q! read more
