"...ANOTHER LITTLE GEM OF A PLACE ~ A TURKISH BAKERY OPEN 24/7..."…read more Drove to Barry Road Campbellfield today looking for KATIK TURKISH TAKE-AWAY - Yes found.. OMG.. What a place.. Please view separate review, posted just now.. You'll be stoked you did.. Anyway, there's a shopping strip on Barry Road, not far from the Hume Hwy/Sydney Road.. WOW... there are some serious eateries here - I intend to explore them all, one by one... One of these eateries had to be ventured into today, even though I had my arms full of foot-long Turkish kebabs - BARRY ROAD BAKERY, Campbellfield... They had some beautiful looking doughnuts - plain, sugared, jam filled, chocolate filled, nutella filled, creamed... I could have bought a heap of stuff... everything looked wonderful... Breads, Rolls, Biscuits, Simit, Boregs, Boreks, Pide, Gozleme, Baklava, Rice Pudding et al Did buy: 2 x Large Cheese and Spinach Pide 4 x Long Baguette Rolls 4 x Simit [big bread rings studded with sesame seeds] Cost: $18 Just loved the look of the assorted savoury filled pastry diamonds in those massive baking trays...!!! They're open 24 hours - the shop assistant told us they are busiest late at night and very early in the morning - locals coming to buy goods straight out of the ovens... We'll be back... Absolutely... Will go at about 3am and make an adventure of it...!!! Visited Friday 22 Jan 2016 for bakery items to take home.

The last straw for me was that I made a phone order to pick up 2 chicken parma's the first time I tried to order they hung up on me and then when I got there to pick up my meal they had given this to someone else. The filling is well seasoned with melt in your mouth chunks of beef. The pastry is delicious and buttery... but not messily over the top flakey. Spot on! Carol's offer normal sized pies for around $5 and a family sized pie for around $20. They have frozen stock at times so you can save it away in the freezer for when you have a pie craving (if you can resist not eating it straight away!!) Carol does some enormous (huge!) sausage rolls which are delish as well. Not your dubious quality servo sausage roll. These are top notch! There's also other dishes available which I'm yet to try ... However I'd imagine they're bang on yummy home cooking (... but better than home cooking) going by what I've tried so far!!! Recommend you stop by, but please leave a pie or two for me ;)

Carol and her husband Keith run this place by themselves, with an emphasis on top notch food. They provide fresh baked goods and also pre-made meals. The shop itself is neat and clean. There are display cases as soon as you walk through the door, and depending on what they've whipped up, you could buy anything from muffins, salads, mac and cheese, biscuits, pasta bakes, cakes etc... But for me, the stand out item here is her pies. I have never had a pie this delicious. In fact, I might be under selling them a tad...these are the best pies in Melbourne! The pastry is perfectly flaky and golden and inside is the most amazing fillings. My favourite is the chunky beef, but she also does many other styles such as curried beef mince, Thai chicken and lamb. I'm probably leaving out a few but you get the idea. This is one of those places you would go out of your way to visit just to get some beautiful home style comfort food. Carol and Keith always make you feel welcome.

Whilst…read moreI've still got my faves in my back pocket, I am open to trying the plethora of brunch establishments available all over Melbourne. So cue South Society. What a flop. This is my other issue with being spoilt for choice, you have no idea hows it going to be until you have been, and if it's rubbish sadly you won't get your two hours back (thank goodness for the good company!) It's a fairly large cafe located on the shopping strip just off Blackburn road with ample outdoor seating. My friend and I were seated on a very wobbly table outside (which also sent a glass of water into my lap after the table tipped towards me) which was rectified by moving. Also a wobbly table, this was fixed by stacking a pile of napkins underneath. Coffee orders were taken promptly but food took ages. I ordered myself the Mediterranean eggs Benedict and my friend had the mushrooms on toast. It was about 45 minutes before the food came out and it was such a disappointment. My food was more tasteless than plain rice. It was supposed to be poached eggs, sitting atop shredded pork shoulder on Turkish bread, topped with jalapeños, coriander and hollondaise sauce. The whole thing was bland and soggy. Hollondaise was too runny and not well seasoned. Eggs overcooked. My pork shoulder was so watery it tasted like boiled pork and sitting atop the Turkish bread just meant the whole thing was soggy. The only flavour I could actually taste was the coriander. My friend who had the mushrooms was also quite unimpressed with her meal. I've added an extra star here because the coffee and ambiance are nice, but I'd recommended just sticking to the coffee and people watching.

If you live around the area, you will know this location is tough and the spot has undergone several changes throughout the past few years and never quite made it. With Glen Waverley becoming busier, it is natural for the overflow of people to move towards Pinewood and with cafe's becoming "the thing" in Melbourne...South Society has taken the bull by the horns. Newly renovated with simple open plan full - wooden tables, dessert display and pot plants... With an all day menu from 7am, I have tried: Pumpkin linguini, red velvet pancakes (strawberries and chocolate drizzle) and the big breakfast (with a cheesy potato croquette). The food is on the pricier side however is in line with other hip places. The chai latte is always well brewed with actual tea and served a brown platter. The coffee always looks pretty and friends say it is an average coffee. I come here as there is always parking, the food is the same price as Glen Waverley Cafes and on par for quality. The food ranges from muesli - bacon and eggs - smashed ago - burger - pasta which caters for a variety of people I enjoy catching up with. Will be back for the convenice however the most recent visit I was a bit disappointed with the floors and tables not being well kept and food order taking some time.

This is a hip and trendy place by nature thanks to the vibe of the people. Weekend breakfast can get pretty busy here, its not unusual if a wait is required for a table. This is a very fun place to be, the staff are excellent and the food is decent. I would prefer to have a larger variety on the menu (because I'm picky), but it's fine the way it is now. Their best sellers are probably their toasted sandwiches-simple, tasty, great price, and chips are served in a cute mini fry basket on the side. Other things worth trying out are their steak, this is a huge slab of meat that is cooked and flavored well. Their garlic bread/dips are also fun. Definitely a great place to catch up with friends, probably wouldn't suggest large groups unless you've got a booking.

So as a place for great coffee, Story is a no-brainer. For lunch, they have a good selection of salads, baguettes and flat bread sandwiches for eat in or take away. As a dine-in cafe, the seating arrangement is a little awkward. It appears to be designed for solo lunchers, but the way people space themselves out doesn't always work out like that. Thankfully my lunch buddy and I came a little later and were able to snag one of the larger tables to ourselves to enjoy a more relaxed lunch and a chat. Probably better for take away, unless you can time it right. I wouldn't recommend it as a work-meeting type spot. Overall though, solid cafe with great coffee.
