I went to a money exchange company with a large advertisement of exchange rates. I am not from the area so I am not familiar with the tricks and cheats these companies use to lure people in and take advantage of them. I went in and exchanged 2,300 dollars. When the man gave me the money I questioned why I was short about 5,000 pesos ($300 dollars). He then laughed and pointed to a small piece of paper on the side of the window where there was very faint gray print letters with very very small font compared to the rest of the font that appeared on the same paper where it said they took .12 cents commission. Under that page there was another page with their permit information in bright black bold letters. The great difference in color, the faint gray color choice and the size relative to the other letters to indicate what their service fees are is an indication that this is done deliberately so people don't notice that until it is too late. All service companies have their prices listed upfront and in a very visible manor. This was done in a very deceiving way. When I asked him to just cancel the transaction and give me my money back he refused and said I should had paid attention before I gave my money away. He continued grinning and I asked for the phone number of the business manager and he pointed to the license permit which did not have a phone number listed. I asked again and he gave me the wrong number. I called and called and was finally told it wasn't the business in question. I asked him to write down the phone number so I wouldn't write it down incorrectly and he refused. I had to flag down a police officer and even when the cop asked the clerk to write it down he refused. The cop had to say he would write it down then and that's when the clerk cut out a small piece of paper with the number. I called the business and left several messages asking them to call me back and they never did. I am afraid because they have my personal information I filed a BBB complaint and will probably do small claims I took pictures of the publicity and the way they disclose their rates, as well as the clerk. I want them to delete my information from their files. I'm afraid the clerk will do something with my social security number and US passport information. I also want them to publicize their prices in large letters where people can see it. I would also like to see the business get a fine for false advertisement and to be investigated. I lost $300 in just a minute... this must happen to so many people. Under the current exchange rate I would had lost way less money with even the lowest paying house exchange. He advertises clearly the most favorable rates on San Ysidro Blvd near the border on the California side and runs your exchange and charges a 9.1% service charge on the transaction. More specifically, his advertised exchange rates today, Aug 27, 2018, is 18.689 pesos for 1 dollar. I gave him $800, with any other exchange they give you pesos ($800*18.689=14,951.20) as the advertised rate. This individual, the one pictured in Jazmin June 2017 post below, exchanged my $800 with 13,605.59 pesos. He kept 1,345.61 and when I complained, he was quick to point at some gibberish on his inside office window that entitled him to screw me. I asked him for my money back and he said he does not refund. To be clear, I don't get screwed. I will leverage every attorney and local politician I know to put him out of business.
