Scratch Radio is the in-house radio station of Birmingham City University. Going back way when, I had a show on there when it was called something else, I forget what.
The radio station is run by students, for students - although I doubt very many of them listen. However, it's great experience for those who want to get a taste of what running a radio station's like.
The current, albeit sadly outgoing, group of students who do most of the moving and shaking on there are all a lovely bunch of people. They invited my band to play an event for them and be interviewed for one of their shows and it was all done very professionally. After that, we all went down the Yardbird for a drink together, so they encourage a very friendly, personable atmosphere. I've had some experience of proper radio stations like WM and that's completely different, it has to be I suppose.
Considering that my experience of media students in the past has been that they're pushy little sods, Scratch generates a much nicer, more pleasant atmosphere to be a part of. read more
