The two other tunnels that you will find along Needles Highway are Needles Eye Tunnel and Hood Tunnel. Iron Creek Tunnel is one lane, like the other tunnels so be mindful and drive carefully. It's easy to pull over along this highway and take in the views. There are also trails that start from some of the small parking lots along Needles Highway. This is a popular scenic drive so I would recommend going earlier in the day to avoid the crowds. I would also recommend taking your time along Needles Highway to really soak in the views and all that this scenic drive has to offer because the views are incredible.

We spent one day that day on 4/10/14 and explored the following sites: Mt Rushmore - what a sight to see as we arrived at the park super early to be the first ones to wander amongst giant presidents -- the majestic figures of George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Theodore Roosevelt and Abraham Lincoln. Minuteman Missile National Historic Site - about 1.5 hours from Mount Rushmore we visited the hidden sites of the Cold War nuclear arsenal. We took the Delta-01 Launch Control Facility Tour that included the missile silo at Delta-09. We were able to see Delta-09 in all its glory staring at us. Just amazing... Badlands National Park - less than 10 miles from the Minuteman Missile is the colorful buttes, spires, and the rugged beauty pinnacles of this underrated park. Unfortunately, because of our tight schedule we didn't get a chance to explore as much as we would've wanted to. This July 4th, 2024 we revisited the Great State of South Dakota. We enjoyed the celebrations, cultural demonstrations and presidential performances at Mount Rushmore then that evening we watched the traditional monument lighting ceremony. One amazing thing I saw today when I was walking through Downtown Rapid City, it's a new campaign that the city has started to end panhandling and encourage people to donate to Real Causes. So besides some signs, I also saw a Donations or Giving Meter on some corners of the Downtown!! The Donations made in the Meter will go to Local Charities!! I find that to be a genius idea!! It couldn't be more straight forward, and it's a way to keep crime down!! GO MR SALAMUN!! I can already tell that you are in office!!! :)

OMG   O M G ! ! !…read more I'm impressed!!! And I'm not easily the impressed type!!! We live on one of the hills here in town. Last week I was watching the city and the surroundings from one of my windows. It was already dark, probably around nine o'clock give or take not later than ten o'clock. Then I heard a crazy amount of sirens, I could tell, because of the sounds, that it it was the FD. Few minutes later I turned and looked towards the other hill on the opposite side from where I was at, and I saw a huge flame with the shape like the emojis in the middle of the dark, and I was OMG, because I have never seen fire like that before!!! Almost immediately I saw the lights from afar of the FD arriving at the scene, and OMG those guys ROCK!!! It was like they just turned off a switch, because as soon as they got there the flames instantly disappeared!! THANK YOU GUYS for all you do!!! I have heard and watched through the communication systems all you do, but this, I have never seen before in my life!!! I am sooo grateful to know that we count on one of the Best Fire Departments in Rapid City, SD!!! You guys ROCK!!!! Thank you Thank you soooo very much!!!
