It's now 5 years later and my dad is still trying to battle this in court... SHAME ON YOU! ***SEE BELOW FOR FULL STORY*** Anthony M. 5 years ago WARNING TO FELLOW CAR ENTHUSIAST DON'T TAKE YOUR CAR TO KYLE'S AUTO REPAIR AND RESTORATION LOCATED AT 1728 NORTHCREST DR. CRESCENT CITY, CA Just to mention a few of my bad experiences.......after my 1970 Pontiac GTO had been sitting in my garage for over 25 years, due to a malfunctioning engine; and because at the time it was more important to provide for my family. After retiring from over 35 years in law enforcement, my kids persuaded me into restoring my GTO which I bought new..........THIS IS WHEN MY NIGHTMARE BEGAN. First mistake: TAKING IT TO KYLE'S AUTO REPAIR AND RESTORATION. They refused to give me a written estimate as I requested. And said they would charge me by the hour but, promised it wouldn't cost me very much to repair... LIE !!! After nearly a year, Kyle and his father Curtis ended up charging me close to $31,000, After all was said and done........ for a job that should of cost only about 7 to 8 thousand dollars. Did you know, to replace the engine that I purchased elsewhere and had delivered to Kyle's garage to be installed in my GTO you had to remove both fenders and the bumper first?!??!? NEITHER DID I !! Now, my new transmission that they installed had no first gear and will start in any position the gear is placed in. That's why Kyle warned me to apply my brakes before starting the car. While my GTO was in Kyle's possession my positraction in my GTO was stolen. Kyle and his father replaced it with a single wheel drive unit. Also my original gas tank was taken and replaced with a cheaper tank. PLEASE KEEP IN MIND, THERE WAS NOTHING WRONG WITH THE ORIGINAL GAS TANK TO BEGIN WITH. Kyle also rewired my GTO, now I have no horn or backup lights. And due to to bad wiring it caused my electric radiator fans to burn out the transfer switch. Which I had repaired at a different shop. Plus, Kyle charged me for new parts that he never installed in my GTO. He also charged me for a supposedly new car battery that had three dead cells and had to be replaced shortly after getting my car back because the battery wouldn't hold a charge. I just mentioned a few things that went wrong while Kyle and his father had my car. PLEASE BE WARNED..... I filed a complaint with the California bureau of auto repair (B.A.R.). After the B.A.R.'S investigation they ruled in my favor and they agreed that I definitely was taken advantage of by Kyle and his father, Curtis.......However, I discovered that the B.A.R. has no teeth. They informed me that their hands are tied because there hadn't been enough complaints filed against Kyle's auto and restoration....... Folk's this is like your local municipality refusing to install traffic lights at a known dangerous intersection, until there's a certain amount of fatalities that had occurred. I hired a local attorney, but he proved to very incompetent and ineffective......... I'm still looking for a competent attorney!! I had been screwed twice. First by Kyle and his father, Curtis and now by the attorney that I hired to seek justice on my behalf.... Folks, I believe that people should support their local businesses but, NOT WHEN THEY STEAL AND TAKE ADVANTAGE OF THE PUBLIC !!!!

Joe got us out of that jam very quickly, despite the fact that we dropped in on him without an appointment and he was very busy. He could have reamed us for a lot of cash; instead his charge was very reasonable. Recently we were looking for someone who could take a look at our RV and do some repairs before we moved. There are a lot of mechanics up here, but truthfully most of them are shit, and are more than happy to treat you like shit while separating you from your money. I don't get it. What is it about mechanics that think they can behave that way and get away with it? In this area--northern California and southern Oregon--they're a goddamn dime a dozen! Joe treated us with respect and professional courtesy from the moment we arrived. He took his time explaining things, and his expertise was obvious from the get-go. He got our RV ready to go, and the bill for his time and supplies was more than fair. We got to our destination with no problems. When we need automotive or RV work, Wilson's will be our choice, no questions asked. That's what decency, a smile and a handshake, great, prompt service, and value for your buck should get you. If your mechanic is a surly sloped-forehead jag-off, fire his greasy, greedy ass and head to Wilson's in Crescent City.

We limped in to another shop and they said our trailer axle was bad and needed 4-5 weeks to order parts and make repairs. Yikes! On a Friday, we took our 2012 Lance travel trailer to Jason at JTC Performance Automotive and he said he thought he could make the repairs by Tuesday (3 business days). He did! He replaced broken and old parts on all four wheels, and got us back on the road. We successfully made it back to Phoenix all thanks to his knowledgeable shop who did what they said they would do- a true value! Thanks Jason and Team!

It comes down to finding a decent one and sticking with them or you end up gambling with your safety/wallet. Even simple things like oil changes and tire rotations are sketchy to have done at a Les Schwab now. I took my partner's car in for an oil change last month at the crescent city Les Schwab. I called beforehand to make sure they'd have time to get it done, as it was an hour before closing and was told they could. I picked the car up and thought it was good to go... Early the next morning I get a panicked phone call from my partner that her car is making a horrible sound. Her metal skid plate had been put back on wrong after the oil change, and had began folding under her car, scraping the pavement. I helped her to get the car home and we pried the skid plate up and put it back where it should've been with zip ties. I went to Les Schwab as soon as they opened that day, to make them aware of the problem and to ask how they planned on fixing it. Manny, the mechanic that performed the oil change told me he was sorry but it was toward the end of the day when I had brought it in for service. As if his eagerness to get home took priority over ensuring my partner's vehicle was properly serviced. I was livid. Les Schwab told me they would remove the charges for the oil change from my account and order a new skid plate. Still waiting on both but will hopefully have the skid plate tomorrow. FINGERS CROSSED.
