Jacob came and looked at the damage even before my insurance adjuster came. He kept me informed, and gave me a price for doing the damaged half and the whole roof. I chose to do the whole roof. He estimated it would be the end of April, and they were able to complete it in one day on April 13. Jacob kept me informed when they found a few boards that needed to be replaced. The crew covered the ground and bushes with tarps to catch all the debris. They picked up everything that fell on the ground, and ran magnets over the yard and even behind the shrubs. After they left, Jacob checked to make sure everything was done to perfection. The very next day (14th), we had a hail storm. Jacob called and was here within an hour to see if the roof was damaged. Thankfully, it was not. I would recommend Jacob and his crew to anyone.

He started on my kitchen 11/1/22 and then began complaining about other customers yelling at him, hounding him to finish jobs, and calling repeatedly. I thought he was talking about customers that refused to pay; but, no, he was referring to customers that had paid and yet their work was left uncomplete by Javier (there are multiple reviews against him online now). I signed a contract with to be his "sole" customer/home project, but he didn't honor that. Instead, he took off for weeks at a time to work other projects, work on his own home, go on countless vacations, and to purchase/renovate flip houses. Probably with ill-gotten gains from everyone in town he had cheated. I have filed a complaint with the BBB and urge anyone else he has wronged to do the same. I've also hired an attorney to seek legal remedies against Javier Portillo, d/b/a Prestige Home Improvements, LLC. While Javier did make great design suggestions and completed several of the had tasks that I hired him for, he simply neglected to finish the job. Also several, several! of the items he did complete now need repairs, i.e. leaking roof, leaky faucet, drywall and trim errors, electrical errors (he's not a licensed electrician!!!), deck problems, landscaping, grading issue that now causes leaking in my basement!, etc. FYI: the only tasks he did actually complete were b/c I firmly directed his efforts instead of giving him free reign. Additionally, he will not return (basically stole) my cabinetry, quartz countertops, hood vent insert, flooring, and other building materials I have purchased and have cancelled checks as proof. I have called daily (literally every. stinking. day.) since November 7, 2023. He had agreed on that day to be at my house the next day to install the finished cabinetry and countertops, etc. He never showed and he stopped answering my calls and texts. Because I am a good person and believe he can still redeem himself, I am graciously giving Javier one more week to return my belongings (until 1/15/24) until my attorney takes legal action. I would even settle for a simple phone call filled with contrition and an honest day/time that he can complete the job; or at least return my belongings. A police report will be filed at the end of my grace period, and my attorney will proceed with the lawsuit for negligence, theft, breach of contract, and multiple damages. PLEASE. PLEASE. PLEASE!! Be careful if you're considering hiring this man. He has the tongue of a serpent and lies, lies, lies. I cannot count the number of promises he's made me since his hire date of 8/26/2022. It does not take 17 months to complete a kitchen/bath remodel. Ironically, he initially promised to complete the whole project in 3 weeks. I called b.s. to his face and told him he had 3 months. He said no problem, that's more than enough time! Turns out the City of Mason City doesn't trust him either. Definitely do NOT allow him to touch your electrical system!!!!!!!! He fried my furnace and a/c units b/c he overloaded the circuitry. I'm lucky it didn't start a fire. That was a $9000 oops. I have long suspected Javier is ADD or ADHD b/c of his behavior. He has zero customer service skills. He has a way of telling you what you want to hear, but no "follow thru" if he's not being paid extra. He SWORE he could complete this project for $50,000. He is now $70,000 over budget and still not finished. I could keep writing many more pages about Javier Portillo's negligence and bad business practices, but alas, life is too freaking short.
