("Does Homework Really Help Students Learn? A conversation with a Wheelock researcher, a BU student, and a fourth-grade teacher-Bempechat: I think teachers assign homework in elementary school as a way to help kids develop skills they'll need when they're older--to begin to instill a sense of responsibility and to learn planning and organizational skills. That's what I think is the greatest value of homework--in cultivating beliefs about learning and skills associated with academic success. If we greatly reduce or eliminate homework in elementary school, we deprive kids and parents of opportunities to instill these important learning habits and skills. Since they been home schooling I never gave them a homework to do since they do the worksheets with them. I know if you give too much homework is backfire on the kids might hate it so you have to know your kids limit is vary important and Mr.Marwan & Mrs. Sarah the Onwers at Kumon in Scotts Valley constantly make adjustments on there homeworks and talking to our children to figuring out how to make most benefit for kids instead in success. For instance, he would sometimes complete his homework then forget to turn it in. Randy helped him get organized and work through some complicated problems in math and science, along with helping him cope with the general stress of high school. His GPA rose from 3.0 to 3.6 mainly because of Randy's help. My son is now a junior at Cal State Northridge and has been on the dean's list there three out of four semesters. He said, "The Tutoring Club's staff is great at making you feel at home. They work really hard to have a real relationship with everyone who goes there." I am grateful to Randy and his wife Pat for all they did for my son.
