I cannot stress how excellent this lodge, and the services provided were. After spending my past few trips outside of Scott with few fish caught and questionably good service, Scott lake was a wonderful refresher, and I cannot say how happy I was to spend 5 days in my favorite part of the world, engaging in my favorite activity with my father and a thoroughly experienced and professional guide, Jordan Baker. My father and I caught so many fish so constantly throughout the day it seemed like the whole 8 hours was gone in a heartbeat. The beautiful scenery and excellent wildlife, particularly at Hunt, formerly Lefty falls, was just as excellent and wonderful as the fishing itself. The stunning Grayling and Wolverine sighting made my trip, and my fathers, a Michigan Alum, something to remember and treasure for the rest of my life. Many sights were knocked off bucket lists that trip, including the stunning and curious northern lights, which, due to the remoteness of the location and lack of light pollution, were extremely clear, vibrant, and utterly incredible.
The expertise of the guides in navigating and finding fish over the lakes massive expanse, made treacherous by rock piles and hidden obstacles is something that always amazed me. The sheer amount of knowledge each guide was able to amass over only a few short years is nothing short of incredible, and it shows. Every day after dinner, the sheer amount of trophies brought in by every guest was astounding, and gave an additional incentive to getting up early in the morning to go have a nice breakfast and spend the day in the boat. The choice dishes, quite aside from the excellent lodge cuisine, cooked on shore were something else entirely. I have never eaten fish so fresh and well cooked, and even though i'm not particularly fond of filets, the simple, yet satisfying means of cooking rendered the catch so delicious I delighted in lunch every day. Quite beyond cooking, the guides are some of the best, if not the best, at finding and putting you on big fish, whether its Pike, Grayling, or lake trout. My father and I had several days with Triple digits of fish being caught, something we had never experienced without the use of a cast net.
The cabins, though small, are very well equipped and comfortable, especially the porch and chairs outside. True serendipity is certainly achievable at Scott as you sit back, watch the loons fly, read a book, and enjoy a beer at the end of a long day of fishing, though bug spray is certainly advisable. The Sauna is extremely relaxing as well, and it is situated very close to the lake for a quick dip to cool off, though the water might be a bit chill. The Canoes and Kayaks available lend themselves very usefully to anglers seeking a quiet time, or zealously pursuing that next big fish after their return to the lodge for the day.
The Dining service provided by the staff is almost too good to believe. The dishes are all gourmet and every one delicious. The staff is very friendly and will ensure that you want for nothing, and the owner, Tom, ensures that interesting conversation is never far from your ears.
All of these things, the people, the wildlife, the staff, the lake, the comforts of home, and certainly not least the fishing will most certainly ensure that I return to Scott, hopefully in the very near future. read more
