This is a very incompetent institution, I have been messed up several times with wrong court dates and fees applied to wrong accounts and I could go on and on. 2 crazy things are that you can only argue incorrect property taxes in a few weeks in June, they don't know which weeks until you get closer to June, too bad for you if the assessment is more then double what it should be, pay it, no other way around it. Wanna evict a scum bag Tennant? Can take up to 90 days because of how backwards it is here plus will cost you $200 just to file. In both of these examples the surrounding counties and states are totally different and far. The did manage to build a palace of a courthouse for themselves though.

If possible verify your court dates, keep all receipts, and use something to record what all is said. The clerks are overworked and tend to screw up. And also I have noticed that the clerks do not know what they are doing I asked one clerk a question then asked another clerk the same question and I got two different answers. Sometimes the clerks will tell you what you want to hear just to get rid of you. I have been dealing with 1 simple ticket for over a year now. It is not like this in other county's. So beware if you have to get involved with this court.

We were on our way from Columbus, OH to Asheville, NC when we stopped in Johnson City, TN for the…read morenight. My wife saw some information on the historic Town of Jonesborough, TN and we made a last-minute, spur of the moment decsion to take a quick detour to Jonesborough and "just drive through to see it". We ended up stopped at the visitor's center and then spent about 2 hours doing a walking tour of the town. The Town of Jonesborough dates to 1779 and it is the oldest town in the State of Tennesse. The town is a well-deserved but still functioning piece of history. Walking down the main street and reading the history of the town was very interesting and informative. This is one of the best "spur of the moment" side trips we've ever made.

It is absolutely FREE and a piece of history you don't want to miss. The state of Franklin never came about but it could have been a 51st state if it hadn't fell through the cracks during all the civil war fights going on. You can go into the cabin and look around. I recommend you checking it out. HISTORY: In 1784, North Carolina attempted to resolve its debts by giving the U.S. Congress its lands west of the Appalachian Mountains, including Greene County, abandoning responsibility for the area to the federal government. In response, delegates from Greene and neighboring counties convened at Jonesborough and resolved to break away from North Carolina and establish an independent state. The delegates agreed to meet again later that year to form a constitution, which was rejected when presented to the general delegation in December.[12] Reverend Samuel Houston (not to be confused with the later governor of Tennessee and Texas) had presented a draft constitution which restricted the election of lawyers and other professionals. Houston's draft met staunch opposition, especially from Reverend Hezekiah Balch (1741-1810) (who was later instrumental in the creation of Tusculum College). John Sevier was elected governor, and other executive offices were filled. A petition for statehood for what would have become known as the State of Franklin (named in honor of Benjamin Franklin) was drawn at the delegates session in May 1785. The delegates submitted a petition for statehood to Congress, which failed to gain the requisite votes needed for admission to the Union. Great little monument in the heart of Elizabethton. I recently stopped here at first since this was…read morea roundabout and then I came back to go buy it again just to go to the covered wagon. This Monument is a staple to the community and the history behind it is absolutely breathtaking. Thankfully there's not a lot of traffic here so you could run over to the monument and read the history behind it. During the winter time this Monument is decorated.

Located on the east side of the river, this tall granite obelisk honors the veterans of all wars. I…read morethought initially that it might have been a Confederate monument, but no. This is all wars from the Revolutionary War to the present date. "Built in honor of all soldiers of Carter County in all wars from the Revolution down to this date, 1912." The base of the Monument was constructed out of river rock that was brought from banks of the nearby Doe River and held together by hand-mixed cement. The base measures about 20 feet and the body of the structure measures about 65 feet high, which was a significant height when built. The top is a single piece that is pyramid shaped.
